Doug Copley's Lineside Images
'Doug Copley's Lineside Images' are 68 titles filmed 1980's, 1990's & 2000's variously 12-90 minutes long. They come with Doug's own commentary and tend to follow lines of route, or particular workings, filmed over multiple return visits.
Doug's videos often include interludes of impressively vocal bird song!
In Alfred Hitchcock (filmmaker) style, Doug occasionally makes brief cameo appearances in his own films.

Doug gave annual shows to Peak Rail Sheffield Branch. When he died in 2008 his films were kindly made available to the Peak Railway Association by his family so that appreciative enthusiasts can continue to enjoy his work in his memory.
During his working life as a steelworks commissioning engineer he travelled extensively and the collection includes South America, South Africa, India, Turkey (steam), and Australia. The UK collection includes many secondary lines, and also industrial railways. A treasure trove.

A look at Huddersfield Station before following a Huddersfield - Penistone - Barnsley - Sheffield DMU with views from the lineside and from the train, and also a look at the intermediate stations and lineside features.
Interesting interludes en route include:
a pair of split-box Class 37s draw a loaded mgr out of Dodworth Colliery and run-around. A little later they are seen in frosty conditions in a deep cutting on a 1-in-50 falling gradient, cautiously approach the junction with the line from Leeds at Barnsley Station Jct.
an overview of Barnsley station before modernisation with a swarm of red Yorkshire Traction double-deckers in the bus station, and on the other side of the tracks is the site of the former Barnsley engine shed.
on the way to Meadowhall Junction, in the days before Meadowhall Shopping Centre and Meadowhall Interchange, we twice see HSTs on sunday diversion between Leeds and Sheffield, and also see industrial steam at work (ironically) at National Smokeless Fuels, Smithywood Coking Plant.
originally ordered by the former LNER in 1938 and built in 1950, class 506 Manchester-Glossop-Hadfield dc emus meet their end in Marple & Gillott scrapyard in the former Attercliffe Goods Depot. After 30 years of intensive service the 8 class 506 units were life-expired and the Glossop line was now converted to 25kV ac.
Probably due to perseverance, Doug has his usual good luck in recording diverted HSTs and some infrequent freight and shunting movements.
