I have actually seen old tractor engines so worn out you would literally have to pull crank it , then it would die when you let the couch out ( not enough compression to even pull it's own weight. These engines will run untill there literally dead!

Best thing to do is replace everything rings, valve seats, rod bearings , piston maybe be reused but if I had any doubt I would replace it. The last thing you want to do is have to tear it back apart

That locking plate is homemade, and too large. The original locking plates are much more rectangular and will easily fit within the gasket. You can still source them from any Jeep parts vendor.

The way you analyzed this issue was spectacular. The explanation was spot on and easy to understand. Made perfect sense. Your fix to the problem was equally spot on. Your skill on that trimming was amazing, not marring the mounting surface was key. Making the alignment stud was a stroke of genius. Just goes to show, if you stop and think, assess the difficulties, and think them through, you can get it done more efficiently. Its not about wasting time, you actually save time and effort. As my father and grandfather always said... "Work smarter, not harder". Words to live by. Well done my friend. Well done. I'm rootin fer ya!

great bit of detective work.i saw on the trans output mounting surface ,the raised round surface, just beside the metal plate you had to modify .this looks like an alinement register,if so that same little plate would need modified [trimed] on the area next to the register. i hope i am not being pain in the ass. First class mechanical detective work, many of us would have missed the oversized metal plate and assumed that it was an original part and therefore correct. Looking forward to the transfer case being refitted but I would suggest cleaning everything under the car in that area prior to doing so, this will also enable you to check the bushes for splits etc. great video.

Hey....its very helpful to see you go through this process. Im trying to get an identical one going. Ive got spark and 60 psi compression. Its still not running but its coughing a bit. Im guessing i have a fuel restriction in carb remaining after the cleaning. Its somewhere between the needle and reed valve. Not really sure how to get in there to clean it further? Guess ill check again tomorrow. Some helpful stuff for the next guys doing this......i used valve lapping compound on the needle and seat to stop the same overflow you had. Like a dummy i used my drill to spin it and ended up snapping the needle. Luckily i was able to solder it back together resting in a groove in a block of wood. The suction tube from impeller was loose in base. I found a piece of clear hose about the right outer diameter for base and snipped a 1/2 piece off. I drilled inner diameter to fit the suction tube. Was able to use this like a gromet to get a nice tight seal for increased water pressure up the tube.

So if my starter wont run when i hook it up to cables then the motor is no good ? 3 parts the casing the upper starter assembly i just replaced with a new one and the motor.when i hook it up to cables and a battery like u did nothing happened .is it the motor ? The lower casing with its inner parts or both that arent working

Try eliminating the cables and hook up directly to the tractor. Sometimes cables have too much resistance.
