Autumn Gard

Autumn Gard

Hello world! I'm a singer/songwriter and am just beginning to produce my own music. I've always felt more comfortable with a microphone and pen than I did with producing music, but I like the challenge. I also stream on twitch where you'll see my process of creating music and learning new things.

Thank you for this wonderful video tutorial. I am a beginner in using AKAI MPK Mini Play, and just discovered how to integrate my Ableton live 11 of which I am using for almost 7 years. Now I will make my self busy creating music. Keep it up!

Hey! Do you know how to adjust the velocity settings on the keys itself? I have to press very quickly for the volume of the keys to be audible. The only instructions I’ve found are for the mk3 with the small LED screen, which this model doesn’t have. Any help is appreciated 😊

One important thing that wasn’t mentioned is the ability to run an audio line out to a speaker using the Play, where the regular mini requires a usb->PC. You can simply run an audio cable from the headphone jack to an external speaker and you’ve got instant live sound. For live performing, I run an audio cable from the headphone jack -> looper pedal -> speaker to be able to create live drum/key/instrument loops on the fly. You can’t do that without a laptop on the regular mini.

I was hoping the internal preset synth sounds can recreate the synth tones used by the CARS.

I've been making music for over 10 years, and your standards will inevitably increase as you improve. I've learned throughout the years is that a song is probably good if you enjoy listening to it repeatedly. It should be that simple

That would be great if the Play had a simple scratch sequencer, but then it would have to be multi-timbral too.

This is an excellent review/tutorial thankyou. Is it possible to modulate the key in standalone mode? I'm a fiddler, looking for compact keyboard to assist with writing parts to accompany our street band. but often find that the guitars are using their capos to change key requiring me to refinger. I don't need to connect to a computer for my needs at this point. I've subscribed, interested to learn more. thankyou, greetings from SW Germany.

HI. Thanks for this video which is very helpful. I can`t see any comments about it yet but I noticed a lot of clicking and clipping sounds (as at 12:13). I also get this and they show up in the recordings. Can you tell me how to get rid of them please? Thanks again.

I've just got a miniplay, and while I have experience recording live instruments, this is all quite new and it seems a lot of tutorials take a lot of basic knowledge for granted, so I was delighted to find this. Thanks for taking the time to break it down in such a straightforward manner! Much appreciated. Now perhaps I won't end up plugging my finger into a live socket in search of the Midi (which I presume is a Yeti, but with more electricity).

Ableton live does not come with the unit. It costs three times as much as the unit itself. Without ableton there is not a lot you can do with this mini midi controller

  • @Sol_daito

I think it is sort of understood that this does not come with Ableton… but this mini controller has a standalone function to it that she spends the first half of the video previewing.
