    People put too much emphasis on “Nostalgia” if you play old games. You can enjoy these without it. I love games from the 80s, 90s, 2000s. I don’t have nostalgia for most of them cause they were before my time. These old games have a aesthetic that surpassed time. The simplicity of basic gameplay with proper scaled difficulty is why they’ll be forever played.

  • @Igones
    @Igones2 күн бұрын

    Yeah, people also use nostalgia as a negative in those instances, when I don’t think it should be the case. I totally agree, specially with the part about the truly unique aesthetic of those games.

    This is a great video, you have a great voice and great editing, All games are good, new and old, personally I can jump from Just Cause 2 on the PS3 to Elden Ring to Spelunky HD and back to Cyberpunk 2077 and back to Zelda 2, i feel games are especially impressive when you consider the hardware and the era they were made for, it makes it special and something to be celebrated, not to mention the specific memories that are tied to one's own personal experience with the games and how that adds another layer of sentimentality to it. Gaming is amazing.

    In Demon's case, even if the choices were made out of restraining hardware, From made the choices so interwoven into the atmosphere (lore + themes + experience) that it is objectively worse to go Bluepoint polish on it. That game's visuals were thought of af, implying elements of lore, giving a shade of reality to that world. All of that is lost in the new one.

  • @Igones
    @Igones7 күн бұрын

    I understand that completely. I enjoy the remake and I think it looks gorgeous, but they definitely needed to pay more attention to some of those details that made the original a masterpiece. I wouldn’t mind that much tho if we could just play the original on current hardware, this way, even if they messed up some of the atmosphere, we could choose to play the original experience as intended and play the version with better graphics, even if partially compromised.

    i cannot put into words how deeply this resonated with me. im sure everyone would say this at any age (as we are always the oldest we've ever been), but as someone in my mid-20s, i feel the gravity of time more than i ever have in my life. the way you talked about time as a currency really got me thinking. the way i view money as someone who lives very much paycheck to paycheck, often feeling like im holding my breath and willing for time to pass so i can afford what i need to live, puts a sour taste in my mouth in regards to the idea of spending. i suppose for me this translates to the spending of time, as well. i tend to dwell on the regrets i have on what i did or didnt spend on, time or money, not stopping to consider that its a blessing i have any of either to spend at all. even the time i've spent writing this comment nobody may ever read, much less gain anything from, is not worth nothing. i got to sit with myself and think, and i got to say what i wanted to say. my time and words are worth something, even if its only to me. all of this to say, thank you for spending your time making this video. it was time well spent.

    Thank you for this comment! Definitely time well spent also. And it really made me happy to make a positive impact on you. I’m also in my mid-20s and feel time’s weight more and more. It’s not that long ago that we were kids and time didn’t seemed like an issue, how eager I was to get older and be able to do the things I couldn’t. But that change to adulthood really changes how we treat time and how much time we have available. Its always good to remind ourselves to enjoy the time we have instead of just allow it to pass by. Thank you for your kind words😁

    It's like watching paint dry. I'm sick, and all I got is time. Old things get boring, as I change and get ready for change. Changes are stressful but stress pushes me and my body. I'm at a point that I don't really care for games. I just eat and sleep. That's how numbing it is. It's bit better than just ok. I played runescape, and I love it, but can't play it. It's a time sink. Bg3... Uhm... I don't know what is it... It's intriguing, but some of the knots are like oh please... I completely understand that feeling, I mean, me and a lot of my friends have had a moment when we needed to take a break from gaming, maybe because we were to burned out from work or because nothing felt interesting, and it happens. Our mind state also plays a role in that, I personally had a moment when I felt like I had no control over my life, and that feeling was hard to deal with, I literally just ate and slept. After some time I managed to find a game that would keep me invested, I got immersed and it helped me to take a break from reality and start to deal with these thing I needed to deal with. As of my friends, even the ones who at some point seemed like were “done” with gaming eventually circled back to it(playing with friends also help a lot, specially on dealing with the day to day stress). So all I can say to you is, give it time, it will get better and you’ll find a game that will make you want to play again.

    Yeah, more and more I notice this drags down the second half of open world and open world-ish games. You always run out of interesting upgrades to find and/or anticipate way before you run out of world to explore, and neat upgrades to find are what make exploring worthwhile. Currently hitting this wall hard in Xenoblade 3, and it really dragged the second half of Tears of the Kingdom down recently as well. Which is extra annoying considering that it's not like either game didn't have plenty of room and need for more upgrades as they were. To be clear though, I don't think this is a problem with the big, open map design itself. That sort of freedom is a very good thing and I DO NOT want to go back to directly linear narrow hallway game design. Developers just need to do a better job of filling their big worlds with compelling upgrades and such, and making sure there are exciting upgrades to find through the entire adventure. Which should be more about having MORE upgrades to find in total, rather than increasing the time/space/grind between them. For example, I've never yet played a big open world game and not wanted my character to move faster. So make sure to throw in movement speed upgrades to find and bam, you solve two problems at once.

    @@pixlax9037 I also like alan wake 1 a lot. I like the second better because of the narrative and the gameplay, I think it’s weird that you tagged it as for simple minds when the story is way more complex than the first. I get that you don’t like the game, and you are entitled to your opinion, but saying others who got the game and loved it are stupid is dumb, and is contradictory to your previous statement about narratives in games. I can only interpret that this comes from some form of unreasonable hate, and we should all be better and respect each other’s opinions

    Haven't finished watching, but before I forget - good media literacy for the sacrifice of Casey in Nightless Night! It's easy for me to get carried away by the supernatural stuff in the game and forget that the symbolism can relate to the more grounded events, too. So, thanks! :)
