Just saw the movie earlier today - was putting off watching your vid until then! Here's some assorted thoughts: I think I could give a pass to the "movie magic" on the part of how 90% of storm chasing is just driving and potentially no tornadoes. When you have roughly 2 hours to tell a whole story and show cool stuff, these parts are easier to cut out for the sake of pacing. That said, I think the "long drive/busted storms" situations could be great places for showing some character interactions, exposition etc. To be honest, when I saw the scenes where some of the characters wound up caught in the tornado accidentally, I immediately thought about your story. Having the real life story of such an event in my mind made those scenes bone-chilling in a whole other way. Like "this isn't just fictional entertainment, there's someone who's actually been through that just a couple months ago and talked about it!" A spoiler-free video on this topic was great, but I'd also love to see a part 2 where you could delve a bit into the movie as a whole - the "disrupting tornado" method was something I was left wondering about. Not so much in "is this possible" way, but more: how much of this reasoning is correct, what is made up or exaggerated, how does the logic of it hold up in relation to real meteorology. The overpass (or is it underpass?) part really caught my attention. Mild spoilers for the first minutes of the movie, but I was glad to see it is actually called out by a character, that hiding under an overpass is a bad idea; and when there is no other choice left, the movie kinda shows why. I'm lowkey hoping this will help erase this harmful 'survival tip' from the public awareness at least a little bit. Woops this got a bit long, but I wanted to yell some of my thoughts after leaving the theater lol Thank you for this video, it was great!!

Just this year, in February, I live in Hoffman Estates and our town got hit by an EF-1. I put a GoPro on my window facing west, and though I didn't take a direct hit by the tornado, it was roughly half a mile away, you can see the rain bands swirling in the street lights before they lose power. Also, weirdly, the lightning went from bluish white at the beginning to orange and pink/purple later. kzread.info/dash/bejne/homjwa6gfMm-aLQ.html

I think for some people it’s really hard for them to say no to jumping under an overpass during a tornado when there’s no other shelter…… I think a person’s natural instinct is to try to look for some kind of protection… in the middle of a huge thunderstorm with torrential rain, possible hail, Downdrafts, microburst, debris, intense noise and a swirling cloud of water vapor spinning anywhere from 60 to 300+ mph barreling at you… for a lot of people panic can set in so your first instinct isn’t to jump into a ditch which may actually be filled with water, mud and debris which may or may not be just a few feet deep…. Most peoples instinct would probably be just to go under an overpass where it gives the illusion of being protected from most of the elements… Depending on where you wedge yourself. It also doesn’t help that there are lots of videos, movies, and stories of people heading to overpasses for shelter. I’m really hear stories of someone driving down a highway and seeing this colossal half mile wide twister heading their way so they stopped her car, get out, and just Willy nilly jump into a ditch and just cover their heads…. Knowing that the ground wind speed of tornadoes are a lot slower than windspeeds midway and higher there a chance of debris whizzing by you since you’re in a ditch…. Unless you’re highly educated in weather ( or at least tornadoes and storms), cool calm & collective, And also have high levels of bravery I am not confident that the average person will ever really consider a ditch being safer then an over pass during something like that. But that’s just me

Love your channel on tornado's, however one thing I have always disagreed with is getting into a ditch and not a underpass on the highway when a EF4 tornado hits. everyone knows that if your in a ditch your dead, there is nothing around you to protect you from things flying around and since the suction alone would just pull you right out of a ditch, your chances are much better under a overpass because atleast you have 50 tons on concrete above you and if your deep in the rafters you have a fighting chance to hold onto railing and steel rafters versus no protection at all in a ditch. this is where i think weather professionals get it wrong. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nnx2vNulk9uvpto.html

My goal is to get up close footage of a tornado in NYC. I have stayed in NYC for 32 years waiting to film a tornado. I've been filming severe weather events for 15 years but I had a mini breakthrough, June 14 of 2024 I had rotating clouds over my head, indicating a funnel cloud/ Tornado was trying to form. Then what followed after was the heaviest band of rain, wind, lightning and thunder that I've ever been out in or filmed for that matter. I'm still waiting though for that day. I know, I'm absolutely insane but that adrenaline rush in the moment is undescribable 😅😁
