Hi! My name is mika, and I live in a Japanese “akiya” house, one of the many vacant houses in Japan, with my partner. Here, I’ll be sharing candid insights into traditional house life in Japan, house renovation projects, and all the little stories that making living here such a gem.
In 2021, my partner and I moved to a rural town in Shikoku island, Japan’s fourth main and smallest island.

Good luck house hunting ☺
I ♥your videos. Best of luck in finding the right Akiya for the 3 of you,
Hello from Canada! 🇨🇦. I really enjoy following along on your adventures to find an akyia (?) - and of course I love the footage of Pancake 😀. Happy birthday to your sweet pup!
What a lovely place you all have there, what is the name of the river that flows by? Look so clean and must be nice to go for a swim? Thank you and god bless
Happy birthday Pancake! Omg I can’t wait to see your garden in full bloom
I think your videos are perfect.
Wonderful
My fave reason to tune in is for the quiet nature sounds & watching the progress of daily life there
Your videos always bring me so much peace. ❤
I’d love to see what the town centre is like - are there izakaya? Post office? Community center, shrines, etc? What do locals do for fun?
Thank you for your wonderful content / channel. I am currently looking for an Akiya to as well.
I think I saw a Totoro @ 6:25
Hello, Mika. Great video, as always, and happy pancake birthday. I'm curious about the river near your house. Is it possible to fish in this river? Maybe we'll see Jesse showing off his river fishing skills in upcoming videos.
Happy birthday, Pancake! 😘
PALOMA!!! What an upgrade! That's what I use in my off-grid house in Hawai'i. It's mounted outside right next to my shower on the back side of my house which is super handy if the water gets too hot and needs a quick adjustment. The flowers out front look beautiful! 🌸🌿
Your flowers look nice! Does Pancake have any friends nearby? It would be fun to see him go to a dog park to play
looks so much like vancouver island
How do you guys stay so energetic?
wild forage vidoes and cooking them different style would be noice
I never knew there were monkeys so close, I wonder if they are nasty or would attack you or the dog.
Wow i actually watched your first ever video last year, and then i totally forgot about your channel until today when it just decided to pop up into my recommended videos!
💜
Nice and peaceful. :) We live in New Zealand, where there are many varieties of native birds. I'm curious to know more about the bird life surrounding your home.

My daughter lived in Japan for 12 years (Kinoshita circus) I loved visiting. I think Japanese culture is fascinating and beautiful showing respect to each other and nature
Mommy and Daddy love Pancake very much❤❤❤
I mentioned in a recent comment how Pancake keeps you both busy! Let's add weeds to the list! 😄 Happy Birthday Pancake! Much love health and happiness to you all all the way from New Jersey, USA! Love your adventures!
Your videos are such a vibe, they are literally perfect! Much love from Germany <3
so cool,i am dreaming living in Japan
i used to live just less than 200m fr a forest in East Malaysia back in the mid 80's and I can say its been a wonderful experience. Air is cooler, cleaner and I get to go fishing & shrimp catching with friends. The downside is you will occasionally bump into snakes and scorpions from time to time. And oh there are lotsa cicadas too....😄
Can you tell us what camera you use, it looks so sharp!
Enjoy seeing more of the Shikoku countryside. We will be visiting from Aotearoa New Zealand in December. Traveling by train to Matsuyama to visit my son's host family
I'm sure you've guys have already seen Tokyo Llama's akiya journey and renovation here on KZread, but if not, its definitely worth checking out for some insight on the work they put in
I like d0gs but I don't like watching videos about d0gs. I feel like the algorithm has figured out that d0g lovers leave a lot of comments. I love all the countryside stuff, though, especially when you visit other houses. I like to imagine that I could do this one day but I don't think my wife would go for it.
mild rain and clouds Ahhhhhhh.
watching you makes me feels like I am right there and experiencing it with my own eyes.
Happy birthday to your precious Pancake! 🎉🎂🎈❤️🦴
the dog has grown a bit
犬の品種は何ですか?
Pancake eating a pancake🤣🤣
Happy birthday to Pan-chan! Re my personal interests, they are gardening, cooking and Japanese crafts. What flowers have you planted? I remember lavender, azaleas and rhododendron, I think. Gardens, either for flowers or veggies, are a source of joy. And I hope you find the dream house you are looking for.
The editing in this one is great! I love hearing about you guys and your story
I lived for 7 years in the Japanese countryside and this brought me right back. I miss it every day. Thank you for this beautiful video.
What do you do for fun when you live in the countryside? Any entertainment in town?
Y search for an abandoned house? Y do u need 2 houses within same countryside? Y not drive/restore 1 of the scarecrow village houses at 天空の村・かかしの里
Finally a video with no spiders!! lol
We are enjoying watching your adventures in Japan. I loved the outing with the neighbors! I barely see my neighbors here in Denver. What are you looking for in your new home?
The eclectic aspect of your videos is interesting and enjoyable! Happy birthday, Pancake. 🎉 It was nice to see the start of the rice growing season. Perhaps you could share more about the agricultural aspects of rice farming throughout the season.
I am curious about why you are investing money in a home where you are just the renters, not the owners? In the US, it doesn't work like that. In fact, it is not legal to make changes (like adding a water heater) to a rental property that you don't own. As a renter, you will not get your investment in the property back. Or does your landlord reimburse you for improvements you make to the property?
Cute..I wish them well.
