Me too! I could have watched that for a solid 15 minutes instead of the 1.5 seconds we got to see... I wonder if she'll ever do a longer video just of scenery -- no narration, simply the ambiance of countryside Japan.

Just wanted to say, I tried that raw eggplant technique with some yellow summer squash, and it was amazing.

I found your channel and love it. I spent six years in Japan with the US Navy. Japan is now the place I dream of living. The intimate relationship with nature, mass transit and excitement make me yearn for that place. Enjoy.

I remember a time when buying vegetables in north america was cheap and thus cooking healthy wholesome meals was accessible to anybody everyday. You didn't even have to worry about buying too many, it was ok if some went bad because it was very affordable. But now, each vegetable you buy, is like buying an expensive item, where the distributors (parasites) are taking an unsane % of profit on top of the farmer and i find myself having to be selective and buy few. But the problem is the disappearance of local farms, vegetables come in small quantities from accross the country and mexico which drives prices up. So many people are planting their own vegetable garden for that reason.

I really enjoy these small and condensed insights into your daily adventures, love the way your videos are cut. Keep up the good work! Greetings from Germany

Hi Mika, Jesse and Pancake! I live in Tokushima. My husband and I adopted 2 stray neighborhood cats, a brother and sister who visited us everyday. We just couldn’t leave them outside during the rainy season and cold winters. Although we already have another cat, it won’t hurt having 2 more 😊. Their mum was too skittish, she doesn’t want to be tamed. She visits her kittens every now and then though. We wanted a dog too but my ageing mother in law couldn’t stand the barking.😢

many people can't get past the "hassles" of owning a dog but I've always found that the benefits far outweigh those. (may I suggest keeping some anti hystemines on hand in case pancake gets an insect bite!)

Congrats to your wonderful dog. I just discovered your channel and i like it alot. I just wanted to say that raw eggplant contains a substance which is called Solanine. It can cause headaches and can make people feel pretty sick. Just wanted you guys to know.

Hi Mika and Jesse! I just started watching your channel today, and have fallen in love with your journey. I'm part Japanese but I did not grow up with a lot of the culture. I have learned to celebrate and enjoy it through watching videos and researching Japan. Watching your videos, restoration of the abandoned home in the countryside, watching the journey of your garden, and welcoming your new pup have brought me SO much joy. You both have been doing a fantastic job riding the waves of a new adventure, I love the community you are being welcomed into. I just introduced the Studio Ghibli film My Neighbor Totoro to a friend last night, and your videos give so much of that nostalgia of the Japanese countryside. I cannot wait to continue seeing your life and adventures! Also, give Pan-Pan a cuddle for me, he's the cutest!

This video makes me reminisce about the countless times I ventured into the Tokushima countryside in search of river swimming adventures in the sweltering heat, or to find trails to shrines or temples nestled in the mountains. I had a Shiba Inu given to us who became my constant companion in my beach, surfing, and countryside adventures. What a legend dog was Gon. Now I’m back in Australia but hankering for an easier life back in Toks chasing waves at Yuki and hunting down great swimming holes and waterfalls in its fantastically clear rivers. It’s my retirement ideal to move back and enjoy a peaceful life.
