In Portugal we eat persimmons in autumn, it is very common. For them to taste good they have to mature a lot and take on an almost rotten and very soft appearance, they are delicious!

Pancake has gotten so big! I’m also drying persimmons over here in Southern California, we have a fuyu variety which is good on its own but I really prefer them dried. Key is doing it when you know the next few days are going to be really dry, really helps make the protective skin. I dry mine inside near a window with an air purifier…I think the air purifier helps but also it’s just there because it’s my room lol. Maybe better luck next year.

I’m happy to hear this will be a worthwhile thing for you to keep on doing. It’s very soothing to watch and listen and wonder, always about other lives that could have been lived. In this episode, aside from beautiful images, I really like the editing at the beginning as you set the camera up, sit down and have tea while you voice over, and then show yourself coming back to turn the camera off. I also really liked seeing the visiting tv crew at work, watched how you two behave in front of someone else’s camera, watch the exchanges as you do normal activities in an abnormal setting. Also, hi to Pancake, that’s a Very Good Dog.

Congrats on the news. The persimmon is an amazing fruit. Im growing a few American varieties at my house and after the first frost they become much better eating. It's too cold for the Japanese variety where I live otherwise they'd be growing as well. Good luck in the future. There's no better place to be a blacksmith than in Japan, imo. Those persimmons need to be almost mush before you can eat them. But, once they become that soft, they also become very sweet, almost like jam. This fall, try eating them at different stages of softness to see what you like. Just leave them out on the counter until they begin to soften.

My wife is from Shikoku. I visited there a few times where her parents lived in Sukumo. I know of the heat and humidity there. I really like the countryside much more than the cities (I lived in Osaka for one year), although I did like Kyoto and Kobe. My mother is from Kyushu, just walking distance from Hakata Bay. I have childhood memories (early 60s) of digging clams there, and then having steamed clams for supper. Anyway, your videos bring back many memories. I subscribed in anticipation of many more videos from the both of you.

I have mad respect for you, Jesse, and Pancake. I will also pray to the Gods or God that you three have a splendid future in this coming year. I appreciate traditional Japanese culture. I don't know the language very much but I love the culture and the traditional ways things are done out in the countryside. I also prefer traditional Japanese housing over modern though. Either way Congratulations on being able to monetize your channel and I look forward to seeing you, your partner Jesse, and Pancake thrive out in the Japanese countryside.
