Instructional Scale Modelling videos... by a nerd
Scale model Aircraft and Military vehicles in 1/72, 1/48 & 1/35 scale
The story of how I got into modelling is pretty simple. I made them as child but didn't make such a good job of them. There was glue on the canopies, brush marks all over the place and paint that could only be taken off with a chisel - they never seemed to look they do on the box... After a few year's break I decided to pick it up and try again. Learning new skills from forums and other videos like mine and generally messing about until I got to where I am now. I am still learning and I pick models based on learning something new each time, so you are following my modelling journey as much as I.

Could you tell me that rear bulge air intake function , why in the rear
Hahahaha, you just had to add an "E" to the Swedish "aceton" 😂
Excellent video! Sometimes when I airbrush I have to pull the lever back a pretty significant amount to get my paint to start spraying out. Once it starts spraying I can bring the nozzle forward to get the fine spray pattern I want, but if I release the lever completely, I have to pull it a ways back again. It makes it difficult cause ill be pointing the brush at a paper towel waiting, and then a lot of paint suddenly starts flowing out. This is accompanied by occasional sputtering as well. Any idea why this may be?
Is there a kit where the propellers can freely rotate?
Hello and thank you for watching. I don't know of any off the top of my head, but I you can modify the nose cone and shift to allow it to rotate.
Well im gonna have to watch this 10 more times.. lol
Hello and thanks for watching. I'm glad you're finding the video useful enough to rewatch. Maybe this is why it has over 1million views 😂
Why you sand the top of the aircraft ?
Hello and thanks for watching. I sand the clear coat varnish to make the surface smooth and also prepare it for the weathering. Oil washes stick better to a satin surface as I mention in the video, so this sanding both improves the finish and prepares for the next step
Excellent.
Thank you and thanks for watching:)
wow, very detail and amazing repaint
Thank you and thanks for watching:)
Thanks for this great video! I always love Tamiya's model kit, quick and cheerful, never over engineering with crazy numbers of parts!
Thank you and thanks for watching:)
Weathering is superb!!! Especially the exhaust, by far the best exhaust finish on a WW II warbird I’ve seen!!! Excellent 👍👍👍
Thank you, and thanks for watching :)
I bought a really cheap airbrush 1 weeks ago. I put a paint in it then it started flowing into the hose. Does that happen to other airbrushes too?
Hi mate have you ever built a BN _2A ISLANDER THE RED DEVILS FF TEAM PLEASE THNX JIMMY
I got my AIRFIX LANCASTER kit from the Woolworths store in Hoylake, Wirral, Cheshire in 1958 😃
Ahh Cheshire! I know Hoylake and I'm from Cheshire. The Lanc is is a classic kit for Airfix 👌 Thanks for watching:)
😊😅😅😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
BRILLIANT JOB ON THE RED ARROWS MODEL
Thank you, and thanks for watching :)
BRILLIANT JOB MATE
Thank you, and thanks for watching :)
HI MATE WHERE CAN I GET THAT VICE FROM PLZ & HOW MUCH THNX JIMMY
Hi Jimmy. If you're talking about the workstand jig unfortunately it's no longer available. I used to sell them on my website whilst I launched this video. Thanks for watching
Awesome job!! If only the IFR light on the vertical tail wasn't broken off. That's about to only readily visible issue I see with it...
Thank you, and thanks for watching :)
A well delivered film on this model with great explanation and research, an excellent paint job on this kit and the end product is fantastic , thank you for sharing
Thank you, and thanks for watching :)
Moin, why is Part 1 no longer available? Or does the link just not work?
The video is still there, link must have changed. Here's the latest kzread.info/dash/bejne/X3ugy8R9f7S_odI.htmlsi=BSW5WyedjXFR4458
@@TheInnerNerd Thanx for your help 👍
That's amazing work. What sources did you use to find out information on the extra details you made yourself?
Thank you. I mainly use reference photos I find via Google. The name of the aircraft followed by 'walkaround' usually shows some good results if you're looking for the same. Otherwise I find Pinterest great references :)

Are MRP paints suitable for painting with a brush? This applies to large surfaces such as camouflage
Unfortunately not. They're way too thin to be brushed in any controllable manor, however I've never actually tried. I'd go for another brand which isn't pre-thinned if you're going to be using a brush. Thanks for watching :)
@@TheInnerNerdok, if you can, tell me some paint that is suitable for a brush and looks very similar to this one. I want to build f4u 1d Corsair from tamiya and i dont know which paint should i use beacuse i know that tamiya paints arę not good for brush
I recommend AK Real Colours, thinned with AK Higb compatibility thinner. These are the paints I normally use and can be brush painted as well. I don't do much brush painting other than on small details but these paints have been good for me
У меня уже сделано 16 танков, сейчас делаю ,,тигр в,, У нас нету столько материалов, как у вас( Я рисую только кисточками 😊 Ваши работы очень качественные 100%
Thank you and good luck with your model building too! :)
Зачёт! 😊
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
Bring on the General!!! Best weapon ever, I was Sf platoon or the Machine gun Platoon, for best part of my career, a brilliant and reliable weapon in its own right and when coupled with the tri pod and c2 sight a real enemy stopper, should never have changed to 5.56, pea shooter springs to mind , SLR and GPMG should have remained the staple, for infantry at least, proper man stoppers, , long live the general, keep up the great channel sir love the content,
I think that the majority who comment on this kit either am I the only one who finds this f-16 beautiful for me it is a beauty I have been a modeller for many years and now they want everything easy or they are incompetent It fit me very well
Cool tips I'm @ that stage of life that Guys around age (37) starts having A growing interest & appreciation of older things of A past they didn't experienced especially the world wars. My dad @ my age collected commemorative ww2 plates .yesh Me I'm getting into modeling of military tech of more modern one I have Models of the The Seahawk ,A-10, ma2 Abrams, F102 intercepter, and haven't done them yet these tips are helpful.
Another excetional build, thank you for being out there for us nerds I love how you bagged it all, " Im not having fun anymore" Alot could use that advice in life
Thank you, and thanks for watching :)
Very impressed with your attention to detail, one question though is that photo etched section in your video, does that come with the model or do you find that somewhere else?
Thank you. This kit comes with the Photo etch in the box as it a limited edition. Eduard ProfiPack also contain the PE parts too whereas the Weekend editions are just the plastic sprues and decals. Thanks for watching :)
the very first seconds of the video reminded me the situation when I threw out my Su-32FN model right out of my window from 5-th floor of my condo 20 years ago... but in my case - i wasn't happy with the way how I filed down the place around the canopy, so the canopy itself was not more adjusting to that place... anyway, I kind of felt the moral relief at that moment)))
I think you did a great job on it.
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
I would love a video on airbrushing. I just got mine and i am struggling with the paint mixing and how to make camoflauge patterns.
Here you go! :) kzread.info/dash/bejne/m3ijtcqDj9CnZZs.htmlsi=60xHoQijXFWqXjOX
@@TheInnerNerd thank you kindly sir!
What is it about airbrushing and 100 year old airplanes.
I think this is one of your best weathering applications. You did a superb job. I really like this build. Well done!
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
The link to your paint stand isn't working
Nice!.. well done mate 👍✈️🇳🇿
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
What a beautiful paint job. You must be proud of yourself!
jea truly amazing ! the end picturs ar super !
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
You basically need to spend a lot just on the equipment before even attempting to make a kit XD
Nice build. The P-51D had an advanced look even though the designs go back to early 1940. It still looks contemporary. TY for the video.
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
Man, Im building this model right now while on deployment, and I have nothing in terms of tools and accesories like you, damn, I have just tools from local hardware store and few paints from aliexpress, but you gave me a lot of ideas and motivation to build it like you!
Great video. How many ml of thinner and colors (Tamiya) did you put in the airbrush?
Thank you. It's around 2ml into the cup with the paint being pre-thinned like I showed in the video. I never use exact measurements since each paint varies slightly, even between colours. Hope this helps and thanks for watching :)
IN great video, im about to start the Airfix version - ive no metalic paint so probably a camo version, thanks for sharing, cheers Liam
Thanks Liam. Best of luck with your build, I can recommend these AK Xtreme metals when you're ready to get some metallics. Alclad are also great but stink a bit compared to these ones. Thanks for watching :)
@@TheInnerNerd cheers IN - I’ll have to wait until I’m back home as getting stuff sent out to Saudi is risky - thanks for looking in.
Great video i am just getting into modeling used your list on what to buy to get me started massive thank you
Thank you and best of luck starting with the hobby! Thanks for watching :)
I've just bought a Bartsharp SB03 and an Oasser Ak1 Airbrush kit from Amazon. Assuming I get into it, I'll get something better later.
Great start and I've heard good things about Bartsharp. Take your time and the expensive airbrushes are only marginally better than the cheap ones, the process is what makes a good paint finish :) Thanks for watching and best of luck :)
@@TheInnerNerd Thanks mate. No one learns guitar on a Gibson. :-)
An excellent kit of a prominent aircraft, with expert execution in the build at all points. A capital job, that, mate!
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
Great stuff, very useful. Thanks.
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
Great video just starting out on my model making career. Thank you
Thank you, best of luck with the career! Thanks for watching :)
Excellent video, absolutely amazing work. I can’t believe the level and attention to detail. You’ve inspired me to have a go at airbrushing myself.
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
I have two of the hobby boss 1/48 J-29 ‘s. Saw the UN scheme and liked it, but the silver standard version is nice also. Hence two kits. Not sure if I should follow the instructions and use the #11 humbrol silver, do it in dull aluminum.. yours turned out lovely.
Thank you. This was a nice aircraft to model and is still one of my favourites. I prefer the AK Xtreme metals over Humbrol, but that's my choice to recommend. Best of luck and thanks for watching :)
