This video explains my process in the building, painting and weathering of Kinetic Eduard Messerschmitt Bf109E-3 1/32 Scale model kit. I start the video by building the scale model kit using Tamiya and AK Interactive glues and Mr Hobby tools. The key to building the Eduard Messerschmitt Bf109E-3 1/32 Scale model kit is to carefully read the instructions and assemble, using the tutorial as a guide. Take care in assembling the scale model kit so the the parts fit accurately and align as intended, this is the easiest way of speeding up the build.
To paint the Eduard Messerschmitt Bf109E-3 1/32 Scale model kit it is best to use an airbrush. This video is designed to cover the airbrush basics so that you can see the thinning of paint and application onto the scale model kit. Harder & Steenbeck Evolution Silverline is used in this video along with AK Interactive Real Colors, Tamiya Acrylics, Mr Hobby Lacquer and Alclad II Metal effect Lacquers. Thinning paint is very important so I will explain how to do that using the correct thinners for each paint type.
Decals are applied with the aid of Tamiya Mark Fit Strong. This is a much more intense product than Micro Sol an Set solution and helps conform even the thickest decals onto the Eduard Messerschmitt Bf109E-3 1/32 Scale model kit details.
The final part is the weathering using more AK Interactive weathering products as well as artists oil paints from Winsor & Newton and Abteilung 502, weathering washes from AMMO by MIG Jimenez and finally VMS Pigments. I start the weathering process using an enamel wash to bring out the panel lines on the scale model kit. Here I use oil washes from AMMO. To seal those in I use a clear acrylic coat from VMS Matte varnish. Further and more detailed weathering follows using artist oil paints which enable me to add streaks, grime and bleaching onto the model to give it a more aged, used and weathered effect. The VMS matte clearcoat varnish is airbrushed onto the Eduard Messerschmitt Bf109E-3 1/32 Scale model kit. This matte varnish will help the weathering process as the matte finish allows more oil paint to stain the model surface. Dust and mud weathering effects are created using VMS pigments to imitate the weathering on tyres and undercarriage/landing gear.
Final assembly of the Eduard Messerschmitt Bf109E-3 1/32 Scale model kit is completed using VMS super glue. All of the final small parts and lights are added onto the model kit to complete the model build.

Diorama's will be my next venture using this model as the centrepiece, but first a couple more models whilst I collect materials... Also very pleased to hear the videos are entertaining, I try my bets to naturally demonstrate my comedy genius whilst simultaneously showing something in a useful way :) Also big thank you for purchasing a stand, all the profit goes straight back into the channel to improve your viewing experience :)

Very nice work, I'm glad to hear someone willing to describe 'how I did it', and not be one of a crowd. I have seen so much weathering on models that a plane looks like a tank left out in the rain for a decade. While this may have been true for a while in the Soviet Union after 1989, I have never believed that a just out of the factory fighter in front-line service, say in 1945, really has had time to weather at all. Oil leaks, yes. Photos show these in great detail, how the airflow makes them curve and spread, etc. Certainly, no RAF plane I worked on between 1976 and 1986 had a trace of weathering in the modern sense. Some dirty oily fingermarks along often-used panels, and rarely some yellow-green base coat showing before a black mastic was painted over it, but never a chip, scuff or bit of faded paintwork. And these planes were flown every day, barring moratoria on spending.

@TheInnerNerd
Жыл бұрын
Thank you, I think this is my best work so far - I'm even happy with it! Yes I have been told in the past it's not necessary but never understood how to get around it. No matter what we do there are always people who know betterer lol. The oil texturing I suppose replaces the salt weathering technique but in a much more controllable manner. I think it would work really well on an overall grey scheme too with varying colours of oil. One for the future. Thanks for watching :)
The realism and detail are hard to believe. But it is the painting and weathering when ceases to be a model and becomes something else. A video like this takes me back to the war more than any film or documentary can, to the people who built these, worked on them, and flew them. I also have to stop myself from watching what you're actually doing to pay respects to your outstanding and, I presume, very time-consuming video work.
@TheInnerNerd
3 ай бұрын
Thank you. I think this kit, being 1/32, allowed me to really extend the detail in the painting & weathering stage. The videos are also as hard as the model to make, so I appreciate this being noticed too. Thank you for watching :)

Hello and welcome back to the hobby. I use a 24L Master Air industrial compressor but I would suggest a Badger 1100 compressor (1.1L) if you're just getting back into it. It's silent running and has two tanks, I deal for small spaces and starting out. Hope this helps and thanks for watching :)

Amazing work mate. I just started modeling and cannot believe how good some of you guys are. Its overwhelming really. So much to know. I have 3 models I wont even open until I have all the right knowledge, tools and paints/primers/thinners. My very first model was a 1:800 Kittyhawk I now want to buy a new one and start over. So many mistakes made. Do you recommend an online model store I can get most of the tools/paints? Thanks.
@TheInnerNerd
Жыл бұрын
Thank you. It's taken time and patience to get to where I am now and many failed attempts too. Starting cheaply and simply is a good method. You'll need to learn the basic techniques I outline in the video before trying them all out with the more professional equipment. The basic tools in my opinion would be; Snips, Tweezers, Sandpaper, Extra Thin Cement, Paint, Brushes and that's about it. These are the bare bones of what will help you make a scale model. All of the other stuff is to add effects like weathering and to get the decals to sit properly - but isn't entirely necessary if you don't want to. A shopping list to start with would go something like this. These are some good value tools to get you going with an airbrush and compressor thrown in at the bottom when you're ready; I get most of my equipment from Scalemodelshop, eModels or Model Hobbies in the UK. Plato Wire Cutters Mr Bevel Tweezer MT204 800 Grit Sandpaper 1200 Grit Sandpaper (More relevant to start with) Tamiya/AK Interactive Extra Thin Poly Cement Tamiya Acrylic Paints (I use AK Interactive which are great, but harder to get hold of) Tamiya X-20A Thinner for the paint (follow the video for thinning advice when you're ready) AK Interactive Weathering Brush Set (Not only for weathering) Gravity Feed Airbrush Starter Set - Sealey AB9321 Starter Compressor - HSeng Airbrush Compressor I hope this helps and thanks for watching. Good Luck!
