Arma Hobby Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIc

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Welcome to the final part of the Arma Hobby Hurricane Iic series. In this video I detail the weathering. I take a layered approach and this episode will detail how I layer all the techniques to give a homogeneous result. There's also a montage of final photos.

    I've just taken delivery of one of these kits. To say that I was blown away by the quality of the kit would be an understatement. Even more impressed with Arma Hobby when I contacted them after I found some damage to both the top and underside of the wings. I got in touch via their website on Thursday evening and had an email letting me know that the wings were in the post first thing Friday morning.

    Learnt alot on this video thanks jamie. I used some oils on flat tamiya paint and couldn’t get it off even with thinners, looked a mess. After watching migs videos and yours i know now i need to varnish next time

    Satin varnish is the way ahead, there's just enough grip for the old but they can be manipulated easily too

    Great episode Jamie, what it showed me is subtlety makes it look a lot more realistic, and these weathering techniques are done in multiple layers I often have the urge to rush it at this point in the build because I can see the finish line, usually a mistake unfortunately.

    Superb Jamie! I think that I might quickly throw together an old Tamiya 1/48 kit as a mule just to try out these techniques. Next year I'll be tackling a Kotare BoB Spitfire and I'd like to do it justice.

    Absolutely love the weathering Jamie. Great to follow your processes. I'm just getting into oils myself; just done Takom's 72nd Hood B turret, oil weathered (and clay wash also), and pleased with it. Have done a little oil on aircraft, but I still use such as Flory's wash, thinned and only concentrated where I want it heavier (such as panel lines) but I also add other shades and colours while it's all wet which seems to blend it and once dry, it all seems to work. It isn't nearly as good as your weathering, but at least it doesn't take a lot of time. I did like the use of oil streaks/stains on my recent Eduard 109G6 however -so I clearly need to use oils more! Looking forward to you doing armour again BTW!

    Fantastic work Jamie, a piece of art. I have a question: after you’ve laid down the satin varnish you continue to weather the Hurricane with oils and filters, do you spray on a second coat of satin varnish on top of that?

  • @thescalemodellingcafe

    @thescalemodellingcafe

    Thanks mate. Sometimes I'll just spray a mist coat over the oil work locally, I may do an overall coast but it's rare.

    Loving the build. Just excellent. I’ll be doing an Arma Hobby Hurricane Trop myself soon. The instructions say to paint the wheel wells the same color as the rest of the underside. Seems questionable; never seen that before. What would your take be on it?

    Thanks mate. I'm not sure on the underside colour, I went with aluminium but with a tropical that may not be correct. I like the contrast.
