Hawker Hurricane Mk IIC Night Intruder (Arma Hobby 1/48 scale model)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Building the 1/48 scale Arma Hobby Hurricane Mk IIC night intruder in the scheme of Hurricane BE581 JX-E flown by F/L Karel Kuttelwascher from No 1 Squadron RAF in May 1942. This is a very recently released and highly anticipated kit from Arma Hobby, with a large amount of detail. The build itself was fun and easy, but painting and weathering a night fighter all-black scheme is not! I definitely need more practice in that regard.

    An all black scheme is really tough to master and fills me with trepidation because I like nightfighters and as modelling subjects. Yours looks pretty good and I learned a lot from watching you. Hopefully my first RAF nightfighter model will be as good. 😊🤞🏻 I have this one and the Airfix Defiant in my stash too.

    I really enjoyed watching a full build out , your techniques are always valuable. Based on the box review I was really wanting to try this kit, however, as I mentioned in a previous post, ARMA is no longer offering it as a single kit but added it to a three order kit combo . Not a bad value but out of my budgeting range for model builds. I'm still hoping as you recommended that maybe a hobby shop got in a pre - order and is offering it as the single kit. I'm sure whatever you chose to build will be another epic adventure. Cheers

    I knew you would't use XF-1 as a base coat 😎 - the rubber black looks great - well done MN, congrats 👏👏👏 Could you do me a favor? Next time you use the air brush would you please try spraying with only one eye open to see if it was possible for me? I mean I would love to use one in the near future but with only a mere half of one eye working and no depth perception at all I don't think it is feasible for me. What do you think? Cheers Mike

  • @ModelNerd

    @ModelNerd

    10 ай бұрын

    Thanks Mike - much appreciated! Airbrushing...hmm. I can see how limited depth perception might be an issue but I'm not sure if it would be any more problematic than brush painting. Certainly if you're painting high contrast colours (e.g. a base coat over a primer) I'd imagine hand-eye coordination would be more important, as you can see the paint hitting the model and then move the airbrush accordingly. That's just a guess though!

  • @MikeUSA67

    @MikeUSA67

    10 ай бұрын

    @@ModelNerd Thank you for your assessment, but would you be so kind and give it a try to see what the pitfalls of a limited depth perception might be? I imagine myself spraying everything but the model 🙂 I mean I spray with rattle cans (outside of course) but always only the base coat - everything else is brush painted under a very large magnifying glass. I recently bought those magnifying goggles (I hope you know what I mean), but they don't work for me as great as I hoped 😞The reason I brought up this whole issue is that right now I'm totally dependent on the weather - 6 months it's too cold and too humid, and right now we're in the middle of a heat wave and it's too fecking hot to do anything outside and inside. So I thought an airbrush which can be used inside especially during winter time would solve that problem. So, would you be my guinea pig? Please? Pretty please???

    Hi Mike, I'd like to offer you a tip if I may. I'm an artist and one exercise I use is to close one eye and draw something. The object of this is to see what my hand does in relation to what my single eye sees. It gives the (one) eye an opportunity to see how the hand is doing what the eye sees. I'd suggest drawing or brush painting to get a feel for what you are seeing versus what your hand is doing. Once you get an ideas of what this relationship is it should aid your manual tasks with the visual desires. Yes, I do have the benefit of closing either eye for a more complete view of what I've done, but I am of the opinion that this understanding of eye/hand can refine what you wish to do. I might also suggest that you constantly rotate the piece or your head when you look at it (move it higher, lower, to the left and right). This overcomes the lack of peripheral vision that 2 eyes provide. Quality lighting is ALWAYS essential. The eye(s) can't see anything without light! I wish you luck and please let me know if this helps. Michael Virtuoso

    I think the extra cost may be worth it for the rivet detail. I get a bit fed up with lots of detail in kits that ends up being internal detail that is out of sight, the "but I know its there stuff". I always build it but a few months down the line its out of sight and out of mind. For decals I always lay down a couple of coats of Tamiya X-22 clear before applying the decals. I find they move better to position them and seem to respond to decal set better. In the past where I have applied decals to matt finishes I have had the decal start to peel off the model after about a year even when I have put varnish over the decal.

  • @ModelNerd

    @ModelNerd

    Yeah, I agree about the detail. I've never used X-22 - I should give it a try.
