Harry's Farm

Harry's Farm

After doing holiday jobs on a few farms, I knew this was what I really wanted to do. After 4-years of study at Shuttleworth Agricultural Collage in 1980, I left with an HND and a job as a on-farm grain-buyer in the Beds and Bucks area with a company called Grainec.
I loved this job but I still wanted to be a proper farmer one day, so started taking on small parcels of grassland and buying ewes with lambs at foot to fatten up. I soon discovered sheep farming was too time consuming to keep the day job so turned my attention to taking on arable land, using contractors to work the land to allow me to expand quicker.
I'd noticed a few of the farmers I was dealing with felt trapped on their farms because it was impossible for them to take time off, so I offered to take the land on for a year to give them a break. The first farm I took on was 242ac in 1985, by 1990, this has grown to over 1000ac. Evo came along in 1998 after a lucky break and the farming(now 2000ac) had to take a back seat

Excellent update Harry, it seems that the UK government is even more out of touch today then they have ever been. Less cereals being grown means more to import from the world market puts the UK at risk. 2 million tons of wheat grown for bio fuel, why I ask when the government are trying to get car drivers to switch to electric vehicles. More and more crops grown to fuel power stations so less food again and carbon footprint going in the wrong direction. Most people are watching every £1 spent so are not going to buy into the government dream of vegan or vegetarian based diets it's too costly. Yet fast food chains ie burger joints are as busy as ever. After all these yrs and it's not long since really since the very hard times of the 1930s followed by 6yrs of WW11 when the population was hungry and carried on so until rationing finally finished,so why is it the UK government want so much land taken out of food production? No 2 fields , no 2 farms are the same. Not every farm can grow pulses, not every farm can grow potatoes, some can only grow grass to convert into meat or milk , some farms can only grow low quality grass so are lower stocked with hill breeds. All very well having a shed environmentally controlled to produce chickens every 14 weeks but in truth it's not good for the planet , it involves a lot of transport by road etc producing yet more carbon. Come on the UK wake up , once the population hits over 73 million what on earth are people planning to eat? and where will it come from?

Really disappointing you're just complying with the WEF psychopathic orders to not produce food for your country. I don't care what the economic incentives are. Of course they're more profitable. That's their goal. To pay you to not make food and be happy about it. Tragedy with global implications.

Well, Harry - I DO sympathise with You, Jeremy Clarkson & many other farmers who are having a crap time over the last few years, with the Climate being a tad disasterous, flooded fields, failed crops, etc. Maybe have a word with our shite government, who are still allowing Oil Companies to drill & paying them massive subsidies to do so :(( Protesting??? You may as well spend your time shouting at the clouds... Though I admit that the French are very good at this ;-)) We NEED a seismic, ground-roots, movement before anything happens. And, I'm afraid to say - This MUST start with You & other Farmers, pushing a Greener agenda. As a Farmers son , I know just how bad farming can be, and also how much enjoyment can be had from this way of life :-)) - I'm also an Engineer, so appreciate the scale of our technological problems... But - I see you, Clarkson & many others moaning about the Weather, The Climate, the Rain, Floods, etc, whislt AT THE SAME TIME driving around in their rather nice diesel vehicles!! Also hiring many Contactors who are also driving Diesel equipment :(( 50 years ago, we also moaned about the weather. We had flooded fields, and would even get stranded on our farm for weeks at a time (river crossing our only road into the farm!!). Now, I AM a realist, and understand that there are not that many BEV solutions as yet - But you need to talk to the manufactures, so they will start to supply what is required. The car industry is slowly moving. Many companies like Caterpillar, JCB etc are definately moving to BEV's (see note below..) I DO love your video's, the agricultural & your automotive ones :-)) But I feel that since you have a great following across both areas, you could do some good by gently bringing in renewable energy vehicles and more. Maybe also do a visit to the likes of The Small Robot Company, to see exactly what they are doing for modern farming. Then of course (though you may not be interested?), there is the area of AI & Autonomy for farming. Both these areas will produce huge benefits for many farmers who accept these technologies. Take a look at how these are being used across America for combining, drilling, etc. It's totally mind-bending. Note : I appreciate that you had a great video last year extoling the virtues of Hydrogen. But, seriously, how has that come along. You've been VERY quiet regarding Hydrogen. Have you purchased any machinery yet?? Is JCB even building, or selling, any kit as yet (I think not). For me - Hydrogen is a TOTAL Waste of Time, Effort & Money. We just cannot produce the stuff in any decent volume, at a cost that will be acceptable :(( I believe JCB is selling nice volumes of their smaller EV Plant machinery :-)) Finally - Please don't start mentioning Synthetic fuels - This is even worse that Hydrogen, as it still costs loads to produce, whilst also still polluting & making the climate worse :(( PS - If you need some added info, feel free to contact me....

"Roger Meacock MRCVS : “Avian Influenza (AI) and current Vaccination Facts AI is a notifiable disease in the UK. The AI virus is an RNA virus which mutates easily but has not mutated to easily infect people or other species. Wild birds and waterfowl especially are a significant reservoir of infection, so minimise your birds' and animals' contact with them as much as possible. High pathogenicity strains are highly infectious with high mortality to other birds only. Birds infected with low pathogenicity strains can recover but aren't necessarily fully protected against highly pathogenic strains. Only people who are severely immune suppressed with comorbidities are at any possible risk of infection. Even in people who do get infected, symptoms can be mild to severe. Death in people is extremely rare. Stress will reduce immunity, so minimise stress. PCR Testing Kary Mullis PhD who got a Nobel Prize for developing the PCR test said it should not be used for disease diagnosis. PCR amplifies the presence of biological material so that something present in tiny amounts can be detected eg finding DNA at a crime scene. A positive result does not mean the criminal is still present at the scene! Each cycle of the PCR test doubles the material present at an exponential rate. If the Cycle threshold (Ct) is less than 24 the original sample can be considered infectious. Above Ct = 24 it cannot be considered infectious. Over-cycling the PCR up to Ct = 40 cannot therefore be considered as an indication of active infectivity, and may only indicate a contaminant or past infection. A PCR test can only be properly interpreted in light of knowing the Ct value. Insist on being told this number and especially whether any test was positive at Ct = 24 or lower. Virus isolation is the only true method to detect presence of infection, but takes time. Vaccination types Conventional vaccines are currently made in chicken eggs and cannot be produced in sufficient numbers quickly enough, especially if a new strain emerges. Being produced in chicken eggs, contaminant chicken egg material may induce unintended consequences such as auto-immunity. Due to the high AI mutation rate and antibody strain specificity required for protection, vaccination is not very effective and will increase the pressure to mutate and evade vaccine-induced antibodies The chicken immune system doesn't mature until 6-8 weeks old. How effective is vaccination before this age? The mRNA platform are not true vaccines just because the definition has been changed to accommodate them. mRNA injections can induce severe unintended adverse reactions which may be fast onset or delayed. mRNA and/or the proteins they instruct the body to produce may induce protein misfolding which can manifest as amyloid or prions. Prions cause Transmissable Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSEs) such as BSE and Scrapie. Some prions can cross species to humans and cause Creutzfeld-Jakob Disease (CJD). Prions are highly indistructable and can contaminate the environment which could include soil, soil organisms, the water and may be taken up by plant roots and distributed to the leaves. Widespread mRNA use amongst food brids and animals has the potential to contaminate those individuals and the environment and potentially food crops. The speed at which mRNA products are currently developed (in weeks) and brought to market do not allow sufficient time to establish their safety either in the short term or long term. The short-cuts being taken in product manufacture add additional layers of danger.”"

If you plan to grow more English Oaks, why not grow your own from the acorns of the Oaks on your land. It is very easy to grow healthy Oaks from fallen acorns. I often grow oaks from fallen acorns for about 2 years in individual pots, I then take them out to plant them on any free spaces in the countryside hedges etc.

Even at 350 Bar. = 5000psi, the Hydrogen takes up 4 times the Volume or space. This is an automatic fail if you ask me. The average price of Hydrogen is $7/Kg now. That is more than double the price of Diesel. FAIL!!!!!!!

Veggie oil is the best clean and renewable fuel. No battery or Hydrogen can match the energy density of veggie oil. It is none flammable and has an infinite storage life. Whereas, Diesel will grow algae and go bad in a few months. Veggie oil is the best fuel on the planet in every way. I have been using it for 10 years in all my vehicles. And saved $90,000 on fuel costs.
