You can buy direct-from-factory if you want to save a few thousand and deal with customs/shipping. As someone who did that, I don't advise it - language barrier/time zone make it a pita. My two yr old machine has cylinders that are already rusting. Everything is built cheaply, but with standard off-the-shelf parts, repairing is pretty simple. But when people say they are 'comparable' to name-brand machines, that's only on the most basic/superficial levels. The hydraulic controls aren't as precise. The turntable has slop right off the factory floor. Fit and finish is a joke. But if you're a homeowner/rancher or a small business that only has limited light duty use, these can work. These are NOT 'comparable' to a name brand for durability - you're not going to get thousands of hours from them. They are the Yugos of the excavator world. Cheap/disposable.

Amazon sells a 200 watt flexible solar panel (100 watt at harborfreight) for $80 that could either keep the battery charged or power another fan, and the panel fits perfectly on top of the sun canopy.

Several commenters, here, seem to believe the fans are 12" fans. They are 7 inch fans. I have almost the same machine, and a 12" fan would never fit in those areas. I can guarantee that those are 7 inch fans. I hope this is helpful information.

These sell for $18-20k (sometimes higher if two buyers get into a silly bidding war) in our area. Ive come so close to buying, especially since its already plummed with a diverter valve and adding a hydraulic cylinder for the thumb and welding some upper brackets on the boom would be quite simple. Nice machine for a 3 ton.

Keep in mind that these machines are in metric. A 2800kg machine is 2.8 tonnes. That may be indeed 3 tons (6000lbs) but they are rated in metric. Realistically, it doesn't really matter as they would all be considered to be in the 3 tonne class. Thanks for review/comparison. The mystery green button in the orange/red one is for the lights on the front of the cab (from another use/review video).

Weight on manufacturer's plaque on the machine states 3500kg. I have one and haven't taken it to the scales though to verify. Got mine at a Ritchie Brothers auction for around 27k out the door. Pulled 8 stumps(6000lbs worth according to the dump scales) out of my yard with it already. Picked them right up and set them on the trailor.

That cracking insulation is common in old radios too necessitating either covering it all in spaghetti tubing or replacing altogether on the early rubber coated wires. Oddly, the cloth covered stuff is usually in the best shape and often doesn't need replacing as the cloth insulation is usually intact unless it's a wire that gets moved around a lot, then the cloth stuff frays and/or breaks. My garage is a 1 car garage built in the '40's. I had room for a 60 gallon 2 stage compressor as it stands upright, but alas, my ceiling is far too low for any kind of hoist. I'm 6'8" and I think the ceiling is about 7'. I can barely clear the shop lights, lol. Those bearings look to be sealed, but you can pop the seals off with an awl and re-grease those bearings the same as you would wheel bearings in an older car, the seals will snap right back into place. I learned that trick with the spindle bearings on my mowing deck and in the upgrade kits to replace the riding mower's wheel bushings with bearings. To me, regreasing is how they would have been handled back in the day as folks from that time period had the philosophy of "Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without", sort of like using the wood under the motor to use the belt you have instead of "gasp" buying the one that would fit. :)

  • @Rebel9668

I'm amazed that that capacitor wouldn't need replacing. Surely it's no longer the same uF value it started out as? I know in old radios of that period the caps all get changed along with any out of tolerance resistors when restoring one. The paper ones get leaky as over time the beeswax in them melts out, letting moisture in and in electrolytic caps the liquid in them dries up, causing the loud hum that you'll hear when plugging one up and turning it on. At least the lube has only thickened. I restored a floor model Brunswick phonograph player a while back from 1917 and the grease inside it had basically turned into cement. Fortunately, old lube will clean up easily if ya take some lacquer thinner to it. Love that saw, man! Wish I could find something like that around here but it's hard to even find the modern stuff here. I drove 176 miles round trip last weekend just to get a model 28-276 because I was tired of the little useless 9" Skil in my garage, lol.

Have your upper thumb mount cut off and welded 2.5" higher. It will allow the thumb to sit basically flush to the boom while still allowing it to fully open. I just did mine and it worked great. Also, if you need buckets the cat 302.7 buckets work, you just need to weld a couple shims (fat washers) inside the ears to reduce the width a bit.
