    Good job sir. I've been using a Makita circular saw model # 5007 NB and a Makita palm sander model # BO 4552 as a pro carpenter for the lion's share of work since the late 1980's. Also Makita's old 10" mitre saw, their 1/2" industrial drill and and small 1/2" hammer drill since then. I've replaced the brushes on the circular saw and the trigger just once! Of course I've had to replace the cords on all of them except for the mitre saw, the 1/2" industrial drill and just now I need to replace the palm sander's cord. That's all that's worn out on all five tools! I don't know their reputation nowadays but in my experience you can't beat the Makita brand. You made a great choice for your pad sander. I'm guessing I am not much younger than your dad by what you said.

    Do you not have concerns about your router drawing its cooling air from a bucket full of dust and bits? I always thought that a supply of fresh, cool(er) air was essential for the router's longevity.

  • @donvjgr

  • @awlthatwoodcrafts8911

    @@donvjgr not exactly. Dust boxes that you can buy usually have a vent to control airflow. Your bucket design relies on the opening at the table for drawing in air. That may or may not be sufficient in some cases. The router heat problem is definitely a source of great debate when it comes to dust boxes.

    I have this saw and I like it. It cuts straight. With the supplied fence attached I get a lot of vibration, when the fence is removed the vibration stops. I've wondered if I did something wrong during installation. If anyone else has had this issue please clue me in for a fix. The only 'remedy' I have found is placing support sticks under the table to stabilize it. Ugh.

    I have this saw, was really disappointed for a few years. I had tried different blades all from grizzly, disassembled the saw and re-set to coplanar. It was a vibration issue and a rough cut. It was the blades, I ordered some from bandsawbladesdirect and that solved 90% of the issue. Went with a tri-master carbide blade.

    Thanks, I just found this. What I did was shorten the bucket, to about 7" for a PC router. Then I cut a close fitting hole in the bottom. The motor now can draw clean cool air and blow the cutter clean. As is it does not interfere with the lift set up. I am now looking for a good place to draw the vacuum. My knee jerk idea was to draw right at the cutter. Any thing that misses could accumulate. I will do about what you did on that. Thanks again Chris

    Love the dust collection additions. The sled too. My last crosscut sled had a dado'd t-track along the front. About the same height too. Had to make a new sled last week and went with a 3 1/2" straight fence with a up-facing, 1/2" rabbetted, t-track along the top front side with a big, chunky, flip stop and two t-tracks running parallel to the blade to hold the cut piece. My fingers are 24" to either side of the blade. Darn thing still slings saw dust over my glasses and into my eyes though. Don - I'm going to pick one of these up this weekend that I found on CL. Your video was extremely helpful. Thanks for posting it! • @donvjgr
    @donvjgr5 жыл бұрын

    I am pleased with this jointer as it was an upgrade from a rather crappy Big Box store 6". It has been enhanced by the addition of a helical cutter head which makes it awesome. My only snipe about it is the mobile base. It has a foot push lever that lifts the jointer up onto a 3rd caster and it tends to drop unexpectedly while moving. A minor complaint if you don't need to move yours around much. I do because my shop is pretty small and I need to move it out to use it. But aside from that, I really like this jointer. After I adjusted the tables, they have remained extremely stable and has not required any further adjustments since I installed the helical cutter.

    Hi Will, No I have not really. I have run one a couple times. I don't recall anything that was notable. But it did bring me to the conclusion I wanted a larger band saw. Powermatics have a great reputation. On heavy resawing the thrust bearings on my Grizzly get pretty noisy sometimes. I believe that is not uncommon with band saws with that bearing setup in general. Setup and tuning your band saw is key. All I can say is the Grizzly is typically quiet, and relatively vibration free. I can say that I have had to resquare the front fence rail mount several times. Mostly because I can be clod loading wood. Not much help I know. Don
