Why I like the Plexi-glass Shield on My Crosscut Sled
Today I was trimming a piece of plywood down to size and the trimmed
piece was jammed into my fence.
While it did not hit the plexi-glass, the incredible speed at which it
hit the fence made me appreciate it was there.

Great safety edition to the sled. Years ago a carbide tooth came off the blade, and hit me in the nose. I had to pull it out with tweezers.....Not fun.

Ouch! Man that is scary considering it was only fractions of an inch from taking an eye out. Yeah while this is a fun hobby, the safety aspects are very serious. Thanks for sharing that Carl. Don

***** Thanks Eric. I took the idea from a William NG crosscut sled video I saw a while back. I liked his remarks about adding it, he said, "With a face like mine, I can't afford to take anymore hits."
This shield will be my project for tomorrow morning. I have been using a table saw for over 50 years and never had any accidents until a few weeks ago. A piece of 2x6 flew off the blade and hit me in the chest hard enough to knock me down and knock the wind out of me. I understand kick back and have even made it happen on purpose just to see what it is like and it still surprised me. Lucky it hit where it did or it could have been a lot worse. Maybe the shield will help. Thanks.

Wow. Glad you are OK. The plexi-glass shield didn't actually do anything in this instance. For me I like having it there.
Whats the thickness of the Plexi-glass and where I can buy one?

Hey Joey, 1/4" (.250") thick and you can buy it at any hardware store or big box store.

Yeah that could have been a trip to the Urgent Care center had I been in the way.

That piece never actually touched the shield. So would have made no difference without it.

Matthias Wandel Hi Matthias! You are correct and I did mention in the notes it did not hit the plexi-glass. I am glad the plexi-glass is there because of projectiles like this. I guess that was my thought on it. Thanks for watching and have a great day. Don
