Heiko shaves

Heiko shaves

Hey Guys, it's me "Heiko" of Heiko's Garage, I am starting my new channel.
"Heiko shaves".
I just switch from the old cartridge razor, that never gave me a really close shave to shaving with an traditional Double Edge Safety Razor. I am loving it. It is a great traditional way of shaving.
It is a nice way of relaxing, getting your mind off of things and just focusing on the task at hand. Very therapeutic.
Please follow along as we explore this great way of shaving together.

Great shave and Stirling is Arkansas and PAA and razor emporium are in Phoenix Arizona. My .95 timeless is my favorite and best shaving non adjustable razor by far! The Rex ambassador is my favorite adjustable, but I tend to get along with all the adjustable I have so far.

Stirling is located in Arkansas. The key to their ability to make a profit while keeping prices relatively low is their location in the heartland, where the cost of living is relatively low. The USPS abbreviation for Arizona is AZ, for Arkansas it is AR. Easy to mix these abbreviations up. PAA is located in Arizona, IIRC. You are tired, you yankee doodle dandy.

I have 6 vintage razors 3 closed combs some super speed flare tips and a fat boy and 3 open combs a Gillette old type and new improved model and a 1913 ever ready and my favorite will always be open combs so sad Gillette didn’t make more of them😖

I found out that if you open the razor like you would inserting a blade and just keep twisting clockwise it comes apart without using a paperclip. For assembling it again I just hold the top firm with my fingers and twist counterclockwise. Don‘t know if this damages the razor but it works

Gruesse aus England Heiko :) Just wondering if Pearl have confirmed they have fixed this issue and the ones being sold will be all OK now. I'm on the fence whether to buy this or another OC razor - any recommendation? Keep doing the great videos

  • @Heiko-shaves

They never confirmed it. You could just order from Amazon, inspect and if it is bad return it. My recommendation for an affordable, adjustable open comb goes to the Parker Variant Open Comb. For a closed comb my recommendation goes to the yaqi Ultima brass and my recommendation for a slant adjustable goes to the yaqi Ultima slant.

I'm a daily shaver (mostly to get through all of the soap that I've acquired) and I found Derby Extra to be one of my top blades for the Timeless Aluminum Slant and Henson Al13 razors. They also perform well in the Edwin Jagger DE89, which was packaged with them.

An Officer in the German Military you say? Bundeswehr? Forgive my assumption but you look too youthful to have served in the NVA, though of course, I could be wrong. I'm guessing 90s? 2000s perhaps? Ah, either way - thank you for your service! It must have been quite a time to have served.

I've been using the "sample" size Stirling Soaps and place them in one of the smaller green plastic "tins" - I'm able to lather quite well in that container then just put the lid on after I'm done.

Derby Blades…the only consistent thing about them is their complete inconsistency! Every once in awhile you’ll get the smooth and somewhat sharper outlier; however, with so many other equally inexpensive blade options available they’re just not worth the trouble. My favs are: Feather (yes, they’re pricey), Kai, Rapira Lux, Gillette Platinum, AccuForge (amazing in almost any razor), Wizamet Super Iridium, Personna Comfort Coat and a newcomer…Filoso. I’ve painstakingly charted the results of every shave.. razor, soap and blade combo for the past 6 months. These have been the absolute best for my face! Chart your shaves folks. Your face will thank you!

I have heard that guys got their 6S polished to get the same smoothness as from their 2C or 6C. The 6S has a matt beat blasted finish. It is not as slick as the chrome on you 6C.

I'm surprised you finished the shave with the Derby blade. For sure I think it is the culprit. Personally, I cannot use the derby blades at all, even if I shave everyday they always tug and are extremely uncomfortable. Obviously It's my experience and they work for some since we all have different hair and skin. Seeing the kind of beard you have, I have a feeling the shave would be much more comfortable for you if you used Gillette Nacets, Perma-sharp or platinum (very sharp blades). As you noticed the wilkinson sword was doing much better already as it is closer to the blades I mentioned in sharpness.

For me, Derby are the most inconsistent blades depending on the razor. I’ve had some great shaves with them (Rex Envoy for example) and some horrible shaves (Razorock Lupo). Only blade that can be so different in my experience

Along the lines of what said about the tugginess on first pass after a few days growth - If one chooses a sharper blade, then the tugginess is much less (such as if using a fairly fresh Feather Hi-Stainless blade). This can be part of how we decide which blades we like.
