I don't believe in any kind of timeline merger, but I had been theorizing that the TotK past was fully after the old timeline before the game came out.

I have to disagree on all 3 opening points. 1 - It's a soft reboot, not a full reboot. 2 - It's actually very simple and does not increase complexity at all. 3 - There is no convergence. It just seems like it due to the vast passage of time.

  • @wizcatcheslightning

1 - I think it’s a soft reboot. 2 - Can you elaborate further? 3 - All three timelines are acknowledged in the Japanese version of BOTW during the Hero’s ceremony.

@@wizcatcheslightning About #2. I'm taking Kojibayashi's implication about the destruction and re-founding of the Kingdom of Hyrule at face value. Thus, 100% of everything you see in BotW & TotK is all happening a very long time after all the old games. I'll admit I'm a little biased in that I was already theorizing this since before TotK came out. After all what would be the point of doing the soft reboot if you're going to jump right back into the old lore directly? And the devs have been consistent in talking about the distortion of historical events over time. And that brings me to #3. The Hero's ceremony only openly references SS, OoT, and TP. The rest of the references (which somewhat more vague) are buried under dialogue that requires players to data mine in order to hear clearly. On top of that, the implication from the devs is that the characters in the game don't know what parts of that ceremony are actual fact thus neither do we by design. More importantly Eiji Aonuma has stated outright that BotW is on one of the branches. He also stated that WW has no connection to BotW, and that he thought the Dragon Break idea was interesting, but they never thought of that while making the game. Personally, I think they've taken the ambiguity of the timeline placement a little too far. It's fun to stitch together bits of information and figure out the correct placement. But purposefully making it so vague (and including a plethora of red herrings) that any remaining placement could potentially work isn't. Maybe the new TotK source book will shed some light on this topic, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm even hesitant on speculating about Echoes of Wisdom at this point. What are your thoughts?

@@TrueKoalaKnight I think you said it fairly well but I’m not sure where you got the Aonuma quote from. For reference, here’s the Japanese dialogue from the Hero’s Ceremony in BOTW: ``` 退魔の剣に選ばれしハイラルの勇者よ そのたゆまぬ努力と結実せし剣技を認め 女神ハイリアの名において祝福を授けん 空を舞い時を廻り 黄昏に染まろうとも 結ばれし剣は勇者の魂と共に 遥か遠き過去に生まれし退魔の剣よ 勇者と共にハイラルの守護を担う者よ 女神ハイリアの名において祝福を授けん 海を越え神の作りし黄金を求めんとき そなたの姿常に勇者と共にあり 退魔の剣とハイラルの勇者に さらなる力宿らんことを ``` Translation: ``` O hero of Hyrule, chosen by the blade of evil's bane, in recognition of your efforts and of your swordsmanship, I bestow upon you a blessing in the name of the goddess Hylia. Whether you dance the skies, travel through time, or are steeped in twilight, the blade and the soul of the hero are bound together. O blade of evil's bane, born in the far distant past, you share the burden of protecting Hyrule alongside the hero. In the name of the goddess Hylia, I bless you. Even when you cross the seas seeking the gold made by the gods, may you always appear alongside the hero. The blade of evil's bane and the hero of Hyrule remain bound. May more power dwell within you. ```

  • @TrueKoalaKnight

@@wizcatcheslightning The Aonuma quote is from a French interview. That second part of the ceremony is more than likely referencing WW. However, we wouldn't even know about it if someone hadn't extracted the audio files from the game and isolated it. I see this more as a developer in-joke, than anything else based on the inaccessibility to average players and Aonuma's statement.

I was ready to call BS on this video... but actually makes some good sense. Good job my dudes. I just figured that the 2 founders were the same person, we just didn't know the story of their full timeline... but that has a ton more questions. This timeline makes more sense and I like the idea of the entire kingdom getting fully destroyed. Now, where do we put Echoes of Wisdom? Lol

The problem is that Zelda herself didn’t alter time, and she cannot be the cause of the Zonai as they were a thing before she arrived and could create such a paradox. The infamous timeline split doesn’t happen because of Zelda directly. It happens because one of three things 1. Ganon kills her and link 2. Link goes back and talks to Zelda early stopping Ganondorf from getting the triforce. 3. Link not being around causes the great flood Not to mention the Rito existing before Ocarina of time makes no sense. The only possible explanation is that at the end of the child timeline, Hyrule Warriors happens, then after the events of the epilogue, Lana and Cia merged all the timelines together. Thus Rauru’s Hyrule is completely different, and Lana and Cia created the Zonai to fast track the creation of Hyrule in their blank slate world where legends of the three past timelines were left as obscure memories among the people along with other random artifacts

Full transparency, I believe in a timeline merge for reasons I’ve mentioned in this video and others. I think Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom can answer it. Also, you should look into the Wish Theory because I think that’s more in line as well as more accurate than what you’re proposing

I knew that there hasn't been a male gerudo in centuries since BotW, so when you take that there can only be ONE, it becomes obvious that Zelda goes back in time, but to after the downfall, regardless of timeline. The last canonical Ganon within Zelda is still going to be the Orc from the original 2 games. He wasn't revived after 2... presumably. So his later reincarnation means that Tears Ganon appeared after the Triforce was forgotten. It is never mentioned, to my memory in BotW, though it is showcased, but that was before they expanded on BotW. The Triforce was either forgotten or used to bring forth the Zonai to save those who were unable to survive any other way.

I need to finish the Chadley stuff before hardmode and am struggling on the „last few“ (even with guided attempts). So, it may take a while until I get the hardmode trophy, but I’ll eventually get there. :P Bought and played Remake shortly before Rebirth Launch so I was late on the series and yeah, Hell House took me few hours on both, normal and hard. But at least on hard I was better prepared. I just have no good timing for blocks and stuff. ^^ I used Mana almost exclusively for reviving fallen Party Members. x)

Loved this video. You did a great job talking about the game without giving too much away, something that I think a lot of other VS videos struggle to do. I was obsessed over this game when it came out and still think about it all the time. It is far from perfect but at the same time redefines how you even think about evaluating the quality of a game. The developer commentary at the very end was one of the most genuine things I’ve seen in a game and made me respect the hell out of VS that much more.

It's a neat theory, something to note is that Link in WW can use 5 of the Hidden Skills when countering, attacking, or defending. Finishing Blow, Shield Bash, Backstrike, Helm Splitter, and, arguably, the Great Spin/ Huricane Spin.

The simple fact of the matter is that Cait Sith - regardless of whether it is in Rebirth or the OG - degrades the story. Everything from his non-serious character design, to his unfunny, unredeemable demeanor, to his boring gameplay, to his insufferable voice acting is just awful. And to top it all off, Reeve himself is a coward: threatening (or kidnapping, in the OG) Marlene, and unwilling to personally take on the risks of combat himself. He's just a gutless, unwelcome corporate stooge - too cozy in his life of power and luxury to face the savages of a dangerous world. Simply put: Cait Sith is the Jar Jar Binks of FF7.

Just once I would like an explanation of what the heck "fusion of timelines" means outside of plot convenience. Splitting of timelines, alternate realities, blah blah quantum mechanics or something, but what even is "they came back together"? Everyone in every timeline suddenly has new colliding memories? It's overlooked every time I see these videos as an offhanded mention. Alternate realities branch out like a tree, they don't just grow back together.

I think it'd be really cool if Rauru and Sonia's Hyrule was the first civilization _before_ the Era of Hylia. Imagine it. Ganondorf's actions and threat causes the Golden Goddesses to send Hylia to protect the Triforce, Ganondorf goes on to become Demise (or at least called that, regardless of his actual name or is a name he adopts for himself), and then all the games are between Rauru's founding of Hyrule and extends all the way into Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. In fact, in one of those isn't there a basically city-sized monument to all the incarnations of the Hero and his adventures? That implies either that Rauru later learns the truth of Hyrule's history and creates the monument to try to protect its history from being lost again, or, more likely, that the adventures happen _after_ Rauru's time. Especially the fact that there are both numerous surviving artifacts in BotW and TotK that come with brief blurbs about their lore that are from previous games. Such as Twilight Link's hat.

If Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom reboot The Legend of Zelda series, I would like for the reveals about references to the past to actually be due to the time stone causing meddling foreshadowing. And then we get heavily upgraded and rebuilt games inspired by/based on the previous games made with a concrete, consistent timeline in mind. If handled right, the reboot could be a very good thing for us all.

  • @midgetydeath

To be fair, Hyrule is the name of the region that the Sacred Realm is in. So, _any_ kingdom founded in it is going to be called the Kingdom of Hyrule because...it's in Hyrule.

  • @midgetydeath
    @midgetydeathАй бұрын

The story of Tears of the Kingdom does a good job of reminding us by its existence and especially backstory that The Legend of Zelda is explicitly, canonically stated to be interpretations of myths and legends and is not meant to be considered accurate. Nintendo takes this even further by outright suggesting readers in its timeline to use their own imagination for how things fit together. All the games' stories _did_ happen. But, _how_ they happened is muddled by time and passing of stories by mouth for millennia and the details are gone. So, the games we play aren't exact, but a retelling of things that did happen that the storyteller doesn't really know much about.
