This is not your vanilla reaction channel, I like to talk about music production and songwriting and have a critical ear. I'm always on the lookout for new music and while I may be difficult to impress, I am open to any and all things.

One does not simply listen to black flames album, and not remember.
exactly. real criticisms are tough pills to swallow but you're right. i'm a big fan of sleep token, but sometimes his vocals are not completely in line and notes are kind of messy. it's holding back the feelings of the track. but the mix of genres on their songs are great and i love it.
This song is Boring? Am out of here 🙄
Damn giving Daniel some disrespect. He’s one of the greatest musicians of my generation.
Loved your guys review I’m definitely subscribing to your channel. Thank you 🙏🏻
This song shows the smashing pumpkins influence particularly the song thirty three which the main guy in m83 likes smashing pumpkins
I compare the here and there rhythm of this album to that of a symphonic orchestra where you have ebbs and flows with highs and lows that are meant to invoke a range of emotions. It is a syncopated cacophony of sound haha
No, its just you
These guys are the grandaddy of prog...at that time they called it art rock. 5 virtuoso musicians each given a chance to shine on this album. Groundbreaking at its time. Check out Yes Album and Close to the Edge for more from this Era of the band.
Pretty fucking talented guitarist. Understatement of the year.
That song was even back in the days considered as one of their heaviest. And to me, it fits very well to the capabilities of the old singer Sushi. And I like it. But in the clean section you also kind of get it where was his limits. In other old songs it is more obvious. I think the problem with their older stuff is not that is necessarily bad but very generic. They still haven't find their own style. This kind of song was very common in that time. With the new singer Nico for them suddenly they opened up a whole new world of possibilities.
Try Dissecting The Full Album : Close To The Edge by YES 👍 ❤❤❤❤❤❤
This song is a bunch of improv thrown together. They've never played this live for a reason.
Criticism is not yours.
M83 is one of my favourite bands or musicians.
You have both grown up with all the edges ground off in music, especially prog. 1971, the edges hadn't even been defined yet.
I heard this song alone in the car while driving, when the song stopped I was crying...
Im a fairly recent fan of ST, and love most of their music; but that being said, I actually thought you were very fair with your critique. They are, as we also say in England a 'marmite' band. Cheers.
Beautiful music
It’s been 2 years now from this reaction , how do you guys think about the album and if it grew more to you guys or not ?
I'm still into it, I was actually speaking to Marcos about it recently. He is generally listening to a lot less heavy music though so not sure he has an opinion on its longevity. I do think it has lost some of its appeal over time. But I'm not sure I can articulate why!
@@FriedTheo if you still haven’t reacted to their first album you definitely should
When you said "I am doing to do a serious critical reaction to this song" I was in stitches as I knew what was coming. BTW one of my favourite books is a "serious critical analysis" of early punk. It is called "One Chord Wonders" and I love the bit when the writer breaks down the lyrics to "Holiday in the Sun" It is hilarious.
@FriedTheo If I find a copy of the book I will have to do a dramatic reading of it LOL
Well this is great! A lot of firsts for me here…😂
Misread as fists 🤜
I like your level of self consciousness and the fact you're not afraid to say you don't love something. Sometimes it feels like reactors go out of their way to please everyone and it feels just awkward. Constructive criticism is always good, I'm a fresh fan of ST music and just diving in their stuff, I love almost all of it, but I realize it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea, and that's also fine 👍 Edit: I just read some of the comments here and the level of butthurt is comical. To most of you commenting people - Calling someone pretentious for disliking something is a very funny way of admitting your parents didn't say no to you😂
the worst is stopping so much - you don't get the full experience from the song. perhaps listening to it in complete an then speak about it the way you do it. but in this way it is unfair to these musicians
These are guys who HATE “old” music… any fool who believes that todays prog holds a candle to the music from the 70s is beyond lost.
Merengue Guitar territory?!?!?!!!? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
These guys came in with the intention of crapping all over this album and that is obvious.
I for one love Chris’s bass lines… they are beautiful and they need not change… get your ears fixed fellas.
This is the most fascinating review that I have ever heard… I will definitely say that.. wow..
Too bad it’s not played LIVE
goofy mfs
i like your honesty
I feel like you're not giving him credit for the dynamics in his voice m.
This guy is clearly a child of God.
It's a metal cover of country music. Most had been fooled. Except me, I love it.
being able to enjoy music is a gift i'll never tire from.
Between this and Belcarra, I'm not sure which is my favorite.
Yes' version of Simon and Garfunkel's America actually appeared later on, when Wakeman was leaving the band -- it was called Yesterdays, a collection of songs from their first two albums, Yes and Time and a Word. America was added in order to fulfill Wakeman's contract for working on one more album. As a side note Chris Squire and Jon Anderson, who founded Yes, were actually fans of Simon and Garfunkel. Sometime later still, Steve Howe met Paul Simon and Simon told him he liked Yes' version. That's why America didn't really fit with Yes' music.
Had to stop watching this reaction. Obviously you have different tastes and that's fine, but it's obvious you don't pick up on what makes his style so great. This song a greatly underrated in my opinion.
I've listened to a lot more since. I definitely enjoyed the most recent album. I think this track in particular wasn't for me.
The lyric were he mentions ourobouros it is the snake eating its own tail a symbolisation of life and death. He then said it looks like a spring pull out it looks like it's a helix, push in and it will become a ring. I just thought it was neat I was hoping someone would have noticed
4:30 that was my exact reaction! One of my favorite songs in recent years, it feels so complete and grand, yet intimate and a bit sinister even. Was NOT expecting it to kick into high gear after that intro. Keep up the good work, fun video!
You got to be the only person that feels this way about this beautiful music your not even close to understanding it how could you say that his vocals are over doing it his vocals are what make everyone love them so much
subbed for this :)
Not a guitar solo fan, you may have been better off reacting to the unfinished version of Akatsuki
I've been listening to him since the myspace days. You should definitely check out the stuff before "Fade". His whole discography is good though. Very talented guy.
Love some of your thoughts and perspective but I think you've missed this one by a mile. All of the things you're thinking about are the things I also think about as I'm listening to something. My opinions seem to be opposite yours a lot of the time. It comes down to taste, I guess. Mine is different than yours. To me, the vocal is ultra expressive. A few moments of too much? Absolutely. But the variety in delivery and the vulnerability/weakness/breaking of the vocal is - to me- intended to emotionally unsettle much of the music and show disparity and turbulence in the emotional state of the writer. This is a broken person telling a rich and painful story and your dismissing it as pop might have dulled your sensitivity to the emotional intention. The vocal delivery and the intention I hear in it match. Are the choices the same choices I'd have made? No. But this also isn't my story and there's no way I can tell someone else's story the same-way they'd tell it. To me, the contrasting musical styles reflect the ebbing and flowing of the relationship the lyric talks about. Sometimes it's darkness. Sometimes it's light. The lyrics tell me a story of a one-sided devotion bordering on abusive relationship. A deity? A lover? What's the difference? The mix? I dig it. A little low end-y? Yep. Do I have an emotional reaction to it? Yep. Is it a Will Putney mix? Nope. Is it a Lance Prenc mix? Nope. Is it a Nolly Mix? Is it a Jens Bogren mix? Is it a Zakk Cervini mix? Nope. All great (what an understatement) mixers. Is the dark and moody emotional reaction I'm having to the song appropriate for what the song seems to be telling me? Yes. Does that mean it's effective? Very. There's no accounting for taste. I disagree with you completely on this song but your thought process is similar to mine and I'll be watching for your thoughts on other songs that interest me!
Thanks for your thoughts. Interesting to hear your perspective
🤘🦊🤘
i remember I was at Japan when they released this album, I was drunk after dinner and was exactly at that famous cross walk at shinjuku when i head the song "Two Way Mirror", jesus the feels it gave me at that time, it was so dreamy, its like your in a music video
The final chorus goes: Spare me all your ceremony Dialing all your pheromones To cite a life from histrionics The way you left was apropos
i had a very similar reaction to you the first time i listened to it. but by the 3rd listen, i came to the conclusion that it's one of the best albums i've heard in like...a LONG time. easy 10/10 it's disjointed nature is it's cohesion. it's a masterful example of production, songwriting and flow. In it's abrasiveness, there lies subtlety.
Yea, I've certainly revisited much of it and really enjoyed it
