The F-22 is very impressive technology, exhibiting incredible capability and marvelous to look at. It is just too bad that they could not be delivered at an affordable price. Instead of the 750 aircraft originally planned, successive reductions in the procurement goal left the USAF with just 187 production representative F-22s. If numbers mean anything, one might argue that the F-22 is a technical success but a force structure failure.

guys, I've made an estimate on how much force the pilot experienced during the circular flight at 2:19. If you look up Fort Lauderdale on Google Maps it's pretty easy to find the spot the pilot was at, using the huge park on land as a reference. By looking at the color of the water (which, at a certain distance from shore, abruptly goes from a turquoise to a darkish blue) I could use the measuring tool on the site to approximately measure the diameter of the ring traced by the pilot (1.65 km or about 1.03 miles). Then, by seeing how much time the plane took to complete the circle (ca. 22 seconds) we can estimate the speed the plane was going at: --> v = 2𝝿R / T = ( 2𝝿 * 825 m ) / 22 s = 235.5 m/s [ = 848 kph = 525.6 mph ] Finally, assuming constant speed throughout the whole maneuver, we can calculate the centripetal acceleration: --> a = v² / R = ( 235.5 m/s )² / 825 m = 67.2 m/s² = 6.85 G's This is the acceleration that pushes the pilot onto his seat. Assuming the mass of the pilot is M = 75 kg [ 165 lbs ], the centripetal force exerted on this poor man was a bit more than 5000 Newtons. By counting his own weight, which as a force is directed straight down, the total force on the pilot was: --> F = √ [ (Ma)² + (Mg)² ] = 5100 Newtons, or about 6.92 times his bodyweight. Thanks for the attention. Feel sorry for his spine.
