    Hey mate, Tensioner is automatic adjustment - The spring mechanism shown in the video is how it applies the automatic tension. As for torque specifications, you can get the DR650 manuals online.

    Awesome work mate, I will need to replace the rear of my frame, super daunting, since the rear leafspring mount is tied into the crossmember on the short wheel base.

    G’day mate, Same setup on the LWB Utes - The spring hangers are removed in this video. It’s all structural in this area! Realistically a strong repair can all be done to the required level by doing some research, paying adequate attention and using some basic principles of engineering. The original factory frame has some horribly undercut welds vertically along the chassis, and that’s still there after almost 50 years, so I figure myself or anyone else can probably do a job that will last just as long as long as you care to do it properly.

    With some basic engineering principles applied I think just about anyone can repair these. From factory the join between sections on the LWB is done horribly and lasted 50 years, So I figure as long as you give it the attention it deserves it will last.

    It looks like you have dedicated your garage to this project which is a very good idea. I have mine in a large shed but I have a lot of other stuff going on in there as well and it is really hard to move stuff around and even get under the car to work some days. I think I need to sell all my woodworking machines and just make more space- I would love a two post hoist as well- I hate laying under the car working haha good onya mate keep the vids coming they are great

    Good to see you back at it mate and posting up the vids again. Mine is going slow as well- it’s amazing where the months go haha. What product are you using in the chassis to coat it? I’m using Xtrol.

  • @jamesgarage1223
    @jamesgarage1223 Жыл бұрын

    100% I cant believe how fast the time in-between goes. It feels like a few weeks but in reality its a few months. I never had plans to do it quickly so the slow progress doesn't really both me (yet). I havened decided yet on a product, I have heard/seen good things from the KBS chassis coater kits so that might be the go. I think I'll talk to a few local shops and see what they recommend too. Once its all painted, I plan on coating the inside of the chassis with fish oil as I've had success with it in the past (Old school but works).

  • @andrewk6844

    Once you have finished chassis repairs flood the inside of the chassis with fish oil

  • @jamesgarage1223
    @jamesgarage1223 Жыл бұрын

    Certainly will be. I have used deodorised fish oil before and it works extremely well. Only downside is a bit of dust/grit sticks but unless you're going for a show car look that doesn't matter.

    Mate, that's seems like a lot of extra work just for a stand (mitred joints). Why not just do butt joints and if you worried about a open end just put a plastic cap in..? Great vids though...I'm currently doing a HJ45 (1978) model.....it just keeps getting bigger...Lol

  • @jamesgarage1223

    Not too sure why I went with mitred joints to be honest, I’ve made some racking and a bench with butt joints in the past and just found them to be pretty rough - Which certainly would’ve done the job here but just felt like doing some miters haha.

    Could not adjusting this cause spongy brakes ? I changed both the main brake lines 2 fronts and the main rear bleeded the whole system tire by tire and I have to over press to get some brake to work, I did 3" Lift without touching the valve and I see no lost of braking fluid... thanks in advance for your response GU Patrol 2006

  • @jamesgarage1223
    @jamesgarage12232 жыл бұрын

    If you’ve done a 3” lift and haven’t adjusted the position of the valve to match, Your rear brakes won’t be doing much work. You should also bleed starting at the furthest away point and working back towards the brake booster. When bleeding use a clear tube on the bleed nipple to make sure there is no air bubbles in the system as this is usually the culprit for spongy feeling in brakes.
