Opening theory didn’t ruin chess, it just changed who is good at it. It is kind of like social media. Social media didn’t ruin society, it just changed who was being heard. It is called evolution. Once the good guys learn the new tools it will evolve back to sanity.

All the historical chess legends from America always have some crazy lore and personality. We had Paul Morphy, Bobby Fischer, and possibly Nakamura.
What Morphy said is that if you want to get great results in chess you only play chess all the time and nothing else. That's why waste of life.
