Stringy meat. My grandmother told me that some people would try to sell you a skined cat, and say it was a racoon.(early 20th century Mississippi). So you always had to be mindful to always buy skinned raccoons with the paws still attached. I'm 64 yrs old, and it's sad that black people have stopped passing old stories about growing up in the Jim Crow south. Up through my generation it was always important to pass these stories to the next generation. All they pass on now are wigs.

Me My dad uncles and cousins use to go fish at night under the bridge crossing the Toledo Bend. And back in the 80’s we take a 16” pice of line with a hook and a loop knot on the other and but a shiner on the hooks and the loop an our thumb pointer and ring finger and just put your hand down to the water and in 5-10 seconds latterly and a 10”-13” white parch on every hook with 3 5 people in the boat. At night for 2-10 nights straight and have 4 to 12 gallon zip locks full most we had was on a 7day trip we had 21-23 bags. We would freeze a bunch for hunting season and have a big fish fry for every one and give some to older people who wasn’t able too fish anymore and or who were having a hard time.
