Don’t know the back story but Johnny got cut off the Woodstock album. I would have started listening much sooner had he gotten the play he deserved.

His manager never pushed for it. However he was one of the few artists who actually got paid for his performance. I think was 3-4 grand. He and bandmates woke up 10 minutes before this performance , other band due was MIA so they panicked and put Johnny’s group on. Only artist with no duff tracks, amazing talent

The first time i heard Johnny Winter i was living in Lima, Peru hanging out with all my surfing buddies in 8th grade ('72) and my best friends older brother put him on the turntable...that record didnt come off that turntable for a month. I cant believe i didnt know until today he played woodstock. Hearing his music brings great memories from simpler times.

I've come to appreciate Johnny! He's at his best when he's just freewheeling with that slide! But he really is good enough to play rhythm and lead at the same time. Not my favorite type of music but I do recognize his talent. Not many guitarists ever even pickup a 12 string electric,let alone dare try to use one with a slide! In my opinion he's probably the goat with a slide guitar!

Yes..I noticed that too..a 12 string head and neck..but looks like he's got only 6 strings on it?
@LuciferMornStar26 күн бұрын
@larryhudspeth4072 Yeah, I looked at that, too. I looked it up and you hit a home run! For the Woodstock show he took the 6 light strings off for that show. I couldn't find anything else about it which is now going to bug me till I find out why! I also didn't know how many OGs played that fender ElectricXII. TOWNSEND used it to record most of Tommy. Anyways, good catch!
