I noticed a thing about the beginning of this song, without the bass going it doesn't really groove as much, but when the bass kicks in you found out what was missing. Often people forget how Important the bass is to make it groove and make all the instruments come together.

I have no idea how many thousands of times I listened to Meantown Blues from the "Johnny Winter And, Live" album. It still gives me chills to listen to it. I saw Johnny twice at MLG in the seventies, then at the Diamond in the late eighties. I don't know how I missed this show. Massey Hall?

He can't be expected to be the same person today as he was 30-40 years ago, frozen in time. He has earned, and deserves, props. I remember Robert Plant challenging an interviewer to try putting on skin-tight jeans and singing Communication Breakdown. HA! I'll always love Johnny's music!

@Starpass Hello! I saw him for the first time in a german "Rock-Palast-Night" in April 1979 in Essen (together with Joe Paris and Bobby Torrello), and "...And Live" has been the first longplayer I ever bought (1971?). This man (and Muddy Waters!) inspired me to start playing slide guitar. Thanks to them!

I saw Johnny this past September in NYC. He's half-crippled, bent over, 6 months older than God and while he didn't play "Mean Town Blues," he STILL blew out the back doors!!!

Johnny was my first guitar hero and still the best bluesman ever. I always like the fact that he recruited great drummers and bass players too. Johnny Winter And and Johnny Winter And Live are 2 of the best Rock-Blues albums ever. He and Rick Derringer were an awesome team. Randy Jo Hobbs kicked ass as did Randy Z.

I saw him in 83. Probably the best concert I've ever seen. It was in a venue which only held about 200 people, great acoustics, unbelievable. So sad to see what he was on the Crossroads concert. Hope he's gotten better from then.

Yeah, not enough people know about that album. I would put it and the the first Columbia album "Johnny Winter" at the top of any list of Johnny's best. I had it on vinyl as "Austin, Texas". I now have it on CD. Great album from start to finish. I think that 'Tribute to Muddy' is my favourite track on the album.

I saw him earlier this year in Kingston. It is great to see him so mobile on this video, he has a tough time getting around now and is seated when he plays. He played brilliantly though. He was here again two weeks ago. I couldn't make that show, but some friends of mine went and said it was great. But, those seventies shows were incredible.

He had a rough patch in the late 90s. I saw him at Mr. Lucky's Bar in 1983. This was an iconic bar in Phoenix Az. that had performers like Glen Campbell play upstairs in the C&W section and Johnny Winter, Pat Traverse, Randy Hanson etc play in the Rock & Roll basement. There were some great performances on both levels and violent fights in the parking lot. Some C&W artists used that bar for music videos in the 80s & 90s. The bar was a Mexican dance hall for a while, but now it sits empty.

I just saw him 3 weks ago? Savoy Brown, Rick Derringer, Edgar Winter, and Johnny Winter. The whole show was fucking awesome, and leet me tell you, Johnny still has it. He walked out, played a song standing up, and sat for the rest of the show. He even had an encore with his firebird and slide! I got GREAT pics, wanna see? PM me....
