I had a '96 VFR750 (for 24 years) that I bought new the following spring. Sadly, many of the plastic body panels were cracking (it was never down) and new OEM replacements are rare so I bought a new Panigale. I still rode the VFR much more during the time they were both in the garage.

FFS learn how to change down properly by blipping the throttle to match revs with road speed 😱 You’re risking damage to clutch, gearbox and chain not to mention possibly locking up the rear wheel. This bike isn’t fitted with a slipper clutch or quick shifter/blipper. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Thanks for your concern! I’m always looking to improve my riding skills, and your tips are appreciated. You’re right, my bike doesn’t have a slipper clutch or quick shifter/blipper, so I’ll definitely focus more on blipping the throttle when downshifting. Cheers!

I've just got rid of my r1 after 17 years and bought a 4th gen 96 vr after missing all the best rides I had back in the 90s. I crashed 2 vfr750s back in the day because I was too confident with them lol. When I was a kid my dream bikes were the rc30 and rc45 so this is the best compromise for an ageing biker like me. Great video 👍

I hope to not crash one of my bikes, but I drive pretty offensively. Good luck on your 750! I test drove a r1, but it was to heavy on the arms for comfortable driving for me 👌🏻

I had a '94 model just like it and loved it. It went into a tank slapper at near WOT in 6th gear while wheelying over a rise in the road and pitched me off, sending the bike sliding into a telephone pole and totaling it. I tore a few ligaments and my left knee is still a bit unstable, but I was dressed for the crash and pulled through much better than one would expect. The '98 VFR800 I replaced it with was also really sweet.

@@edsmotomindset I was more comfortable on the 750, but the fuel injection on the 800 was worth a little discomfort. It was a little faster too. I got miffed and moved away from VFRs after 2001 or 2 when they dropped the gear driven cams in favor of V-Tech valve trains, which I found to be a bit unsettling when it kicked in while leaned over in turns. Thanks for the video. 👍

Recognisable roads for me haha. I agree, the 750 really is a sport bike (not a supersport) where the 800 feels mpre like a sporttourer. I did 800km days on the 800, i now have a 750 and i dont think i'll be able to do that with this one. Love the gear driven cams, they make the valve clearence check very easy. Its a hassle on the vtec. The 750 has a bit of a fuel pump/relais problem, and the 800 has a wonkey rectifier but apart from that both are some of the most reliable bikes ever. The 2014+ vtec also pretty much solved the cam chain tensioner problem that the 2002-2013 vtec had. I hope to own the 2014+ vtec some day, its a bit out of reach for me up until now.

i bought my SV1000S as my first motorcycle (with 30years old). I love the bike and i can't imagine to drive another bike. There are great bikes out there, but the SV is made for me. But i wouldn't recommend the SV1000 as a first bike. There are some things u have to understand and to know, then everything is fine. But for a beginner a bike with ABS makes much more sense and is much safer. That's really the only thing i miss on the SV...

I owned a 1997 red VFR750 4th gen - this was stolen, and I replaced it with a 2000 Blue VFR800 5th Gen - so this was an interesting comparison to watch. When you read bike tests comparing the two bikes it makes the VFR800 seem like a much better bike except for the linked brakes. My own thoughts are like your own and that is that the bikes are very similar and difficult to choose between the two - and for me the linked brakes on the 800 are fine - I dont really notice the difference with my riding. I found the 750 Carb engine to be equally as smooth as the 800 (maybe even a smidgen smoother at low throttle). Now looks are subjective - both bike look great even today - but I think the looks of the red VFR750 just win. I agree about the 750s headlight - it looks old fashioned whereas the 800s looks much more modern. I dont like the look of the front indicators on the 800, too big! - the 750s look more classy. The styling cues from the NR750 give the 750 a special look.

the problem with carbs vs injection, fuel in carbs are open to air, thus the gas will evaporate leaving behind gunk some say you have to ride at least once a month to prevent this if letting it winter/hibernate you have to drain the carbs to prevent this some say the just close the tap x distance from home so it can essentially run the carbs dry it may help but you can't realy run the carbs dry, hopefully get the level in carbs low enough to not have the gunk in the jets since i love riding i just "have to" make sure the carbs don't gunk up with a ride

Japanese motorcycles are made of high quality parts, remember the older the bike is you may have to replace and upgrade with newer parts and headlights is one of those. Your review by grade i feel is not satisfactory for example the fuel may not be owner friendly where you live but again fuel prices are not the same everywhere. In the United States Japanese make and models are a favorite because the bikes are user friendly, light and parts are easily obtained, thanks for your assessment.

I don't claim to be a mechanic or even have a particular talent for such things. But I am just dumb enough to have done a number of DIY games on my bikes. Particularly some ham handed carb tweaking because I added mods to one of my bikes which guaranteed I would be messing about every time I rode it till I finally tired of it and wanted a bike that would "just start and go" without having to get out my prayer rug and perform a ritual to start it. It was great fun till it wasn't. Looking back I recall that in the olden days one ritual was to pull the plugs and "read them" to get an idea how the carb setup was working out or if the chosen plug was too hot cold or otherwise temperamental. You allegedly also could tell if oil was getting past the rings and all sorts of things. Any old mechanic who rolled his own cigarettes was a master of such things Part of being "an expert" 🤣was convincing yourself you knew how to "read a plug" and had a clue what the wet spots, charred spots tan spots and every shade in between meant about "how my bike is feeling today". Kind of a black art like when your chiropractor takes your pulse and convinces you your problem is improper bowel movements just by checking your pulse. Reading plugs was like that ... allegedly. A grizzled old mechanic could "figure it out" just by examining and fondling the plugs ... allegedly. Seems that little ritual would have revealed the mixture was a tad (IE a lot) over rich. Wet plugs or charred plugs always a tipoff something is no bueno. One thing I don't miss on cars OR bikes is carburetors. EFI is so much better, and boring. Whichever way it sucks you're going to have to suck it up and live with it because unless you're a REAL mechanic you won't have a clue what to do. Generally it works or it is broken. Of course if it breaks a guy like myself would be SOL because I wouldn't have a clue how to fix it other than "run some gunk thru" or have them replaced. IE, get a new bike.
