    Danny Batista Is it the best because it is 1.2? And how many 85's did you actually try before you came to this conclusion?

  • @DannyBatista
    @DannyBatistaКүн бұрын

    Over the last 20 years how many 85s have I used? Going with about 7 from different brands including Nikon. 1.2 means nothing to me, but holy hell this baby is SHARP at 1.2 as you can see. In fact, someone decided to mention that it’s clinical sharpness and quality and so it actually sucks to them. Interesting take… but I’ll accept it. 85 isn’t the only portrait lens obviously. If we include the brand new 135 plena, the long end of all the zooms I’ve used (70/75mm), 100-200mm on the 70-200’s and if you’re not too stingy on what a portrait lens is, 10 or so 50mm lenses, Then we can up the number of used lenses to a lot more than I care to count. This lens is sharp, built like a tank, smooth with autofocus in video, sexy looking, no fringing, and of course super creamy at 1.2. I’ll stick to my 24-70 2.8 for versatility though. 💪🏽💪🏽

    In this case, she is lying on the floor, there is practically no separation from the background. Why did you opt for an aperture of 1.2? I understand that the focus is on the face but why lose detail of the rest of the body? I am aware that it is a creative decision. But why did you make that creative decision? Did you take photos with another aperture in that session? Beautiful photos, by the way.

  • @DannyBatista

    Hey Abimael, the reason is specifically so you all can see those downfalls, pros, and cons, and decide if you like the focus fall off of this prime lens. I'm a 24-70 2.8 zoom lens shooter all day every day, and love 2.8 aperture as well for most portrait scenarios. You may be surprised, but the second I posted part 1 a couple of weeks ago, where I used 2.8 primarily on the 85mm, to keep the rest of the body in tact, I got attacked for not using the most wide open I could. Either way I can't impress, or please everyone and I fully agree with you and typically don't care to shoot wide open like I did here on this very sharp 85mm prime lens. Like it's almost too sharp. Your eye is great but most people don't see what you see and just see that creamy background. It was a good fun lens test and nice to see the advantages and disadvantages.

    I really wish, people stop over photoshoping women, because they REALLY forgot how they look like.. They want to look like on that photo, but in reality THEY ARE NOT. Then some percive themselfs as beautifull models, and got offended when someone says a truth statement about "X, Y, Z " things. Then in the future, they are going to watch their photos and admire "how young and beauty they were", meanwhile they were not like that even once. Each photo was made by smartphone filter anyway, or photographer edited that hardly to put texutre down, or edited this or that. They WANT to feel beautifull, without accepting what they really are. And they have no clue how important it really is! I am not shocked they are obssesed about that, because it leads to depression really hard. For makeup videos we shall use nd or cpl ?

  • @DannyBatista
    @DannyBatista4 күн бұрын

    Circular Polarizers are not used to affect exposure, even though they do limit a little bit of light. Their purpose is to cut reflection and glare on any surface, including skin, which will help increase saturation and show the true color of the subject. If you're doing video you want a variable ND so you can adjust the exposure while keeping your settings at or around the 180 shutter degree angle. For example, if you 're shooting at 60fps, you want your shutter to be 1/125. Odds are you won't be able to do this unless you use a very stopped down aperture f8-10 for example (which would be beneficial for crisp and clear video from front to back of face). The ultimate solution would be a circular polarizer and variable nd combo. These exist: www.polarpro.com/products/chroma-vndpl-filter?tw_source=google&tw_adid=&tw_campaign=21290652662&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwhvi0BhA4EiwAX25ujz-Oz46olqvTYVyTif13yyAI5V00ji0nrhOAZWAkMu80Las4ckkqHhoCPNEQAvD_BwE but they also have a bit of a mist as well, which creates a tiny bit of bloom in the highlights. Let me know if that helps or you'd like other input!

  • @DannyBatista
    @DannyBatista20 сағат бұрын

    @@prikxoxxo7778 Yes you are correct both of those statements are what I mentioned. A ND has nothing to do with blocking extreme sun exposure. It simply blocks light up to a certain amount per level of ND you get. Do you need to block light? Is there a reason the ligth will be too bright with what you're doing? Can you not adjust your camera settings to get the correct exposure? If so, then you dont need an ND. Look up the 180 rule on youtube. If tyou want to stick to the 180 rule odds are you are going to need an ND. An ND has nothing to do with what a CPL does, as you've mentioned. It's literally a different kind of filter for different kinds of effects. If you need to soften skin, and remove harsh reflections then get a CPL. If you need to block light, then ALSO get an ND. DO NOT buy cheap filters.

    Hi there, it’s easy to criticize someone’s efforts from behind an anonymous account. The internet often allows people to say things they wouldn’t in person. Despite the negativity, your comments do contribute to engagement. Let’s try to keep the discussion respectful and constructive.

    @@03LilShaun no luts my friend! This is color editor, and color balance. I do have color grade presets for LR and C1 that I’m always updating on dannybatista.com/learn for gold members only like mentioned in the video though!

    Great video. I ended up getting the 135 1.8 and it's amazing but super tight in certain situations. Hope you are enjoying the nikon z8.

    The z8 has been great to me, most importantly for video in all the industries I work in. I just picked up the z6iii as the little brother to the z8. Should I show the rig?👀👀 Yeah I don’t like long lenses honestly. This 85 creates some nice separation from the background but is still prefer the 24-70 2.8 for a versatility stand point

    @@DannyBatista yeah show use the rig and some of your work on the z6III. I am thinking of getting that or the zf for travel.

    @@marqman05 I mean the z6iii rivals the zf if we're talking about a video camera. the zf is compact compratively. I wouldn't get the zf if I was trying to capture video (for one it doesn't do internal raw video and only has an sd card slot.) But if you're just running around snapping some pics and a couple quick little vids then itll be fine for that. You definitely don't want to rig out a zf

    Everyone in the last video said they got some good nuggets from that, so I had to keep it going. I’m glad you dig it, you are definitely upper tier photographer, so I appreciate you stopping by!
