Artfully Abstract by Lorrie

Artfully Abstract by Lorrie

This channel is meant to share techniques that I have learned on my journey with alcohol ink (although I may throw some other art styles in occasionally). My favorite style is the wispy, abstract look so that is what you will be seeing here the most. I am not a professional video maker so at times my videos may not be perfect lol. Hopefully, they will be good enough to help you learn a little bit about this style of art. If you like what you see give me a thumbs up and subscribe, then click the bell if you want to be notified when I post a new video. For ideas on supplies you might need check out my Amazon affiliate storefront link - www.amazon.com/shop/lorriebrewer (clickable link on banner above, just click the Amazon symbol on the lower right hand side of the picture). I have tried to categorize them to make it easier to find what you are looking for.

Your art is beautiful but I don’t understand your mindset. Are you trying to get the ink spread out at first then concentrate it back towards the center or an area leaving a more wistful ethereal section towards the outside? I would love to hear your thought process as you’re creating your stunning pieces.

Why do you put your brass ink into the quilling glue bottle instead of using the bottle it comes in?

Wonderful! What is that technique called that you’re using with your blower? It’s like you’re pushing and pulling the ink. What would you say you were trying to accomplish? I’ve just never seen the blower used in this way.

You like the negative space at the top because it feels lighter and the color area is perceived as weight. Having the negative space on the bottom makes the piece feel unsteady so it is not restful. Your work is beautiful and your tutorials are excellent! Thank you for all the information. If you have to use the hairdryer, instead of recording your voice while you while you paint, do a voice over. It's just a thought and I've no idea how to do a voice over. I image it's complex to set up and may cost $$. As you're offering videos for free, I wouldn't worry about the noise. I for one appreciate the time you take to put these out. Making videos takes a ton of effort and time. You are kind to make these. Thank you again. You've helped a LOT!

Your art is so beautiful! It has inspired me to try alcohol inks. My husband gifted me a set of Ranger inks and while the colors are beautiful, the pigments seem to clump. I’m using 91% Isopropyl and do shake the bottles well before use and the inks pour out nicely but then clump as they dry. I’m wondering if I have a bad batch of product or am using it incorrectly. Any insight would be much appreciated.

P.S. Have you ever tried to form the ink into a flower? May be one of those things that’s too specific for the ink to do. Possibly ink pen over alcohol ink painting. Do you ever work in segments? Like make a petal at a time? Can you tell that I do watercolor and don’t actually know alcohol yet??🙃🙃🥰

Thank you Lorrie! I actually can’t imagine a better video for what you presented!! Excellent job.. I don’t know if anyone will see this comment 4 or 5 years later, but I use a hairdryer like that but when you take the brush off of mine, there is still something sticking out that would prevent my dryer from getting close to the paper. It also doesn’t have a cool setting. So I need to shop for yours. Maybe the link will still work! You are so awesome and funny!! I was laughing out loud!! I’m a newbie to this but I like even ones that you didn’t seem to! Seemed that you are too hard on yourself but I understand that you know a lot and once you decide on something you seem to go for it. I love your story and working plan!! TYSM!💕💕💕💕Will look up more videos by you!! You are a great teacher!!

Do you dilute your Piñata Brass with alcohol before using it and if so in what proportions ink to alcohol? Or using it just straight from the bottle?
