[122] Wispy Alcohol Ink Art on Ceramic Vase

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I used Tim Holtz / Ranger alcohol ink colors Vineyard and Stream, and Jacquard Piñata brass metallic on this vase. I also used the Tim Holtz squeeze bulb air blower for the air source. The Amazon link will be below with some of my other frequently used items. Also, Be sure you check out ‪@randihart5731‬ for her video on painting on a vase like this. Her video really helped me with getting that softer, wispy look on mine.

    Beautiful. Will need to try this on a vase and yupo paper. Have you ever tried using brushes and alcohol ink on yupo paper.? Watched a video on abstract flowers using brushes on yupo paper. Very interesting.

    I haven’t tried it with brushes, but I have watched a few videos on it. Alcohol ink paintings like that are definitely beautiful. They look very much like watercolors to me. One of these days maybe I’ll get around to trying that. 😊

    You are most welcome. I am so pleased that I subbed to your channel. I have white tiles that I would like to try this with and I am not sure how to seal it or what sealer I should use. Can you recommend something that I can use to seal the tiles ?@@LorrieBrewer

  • @LorrieBrewer

    You should always seal your ink with Kamar varnish by Krylon, or some other water based varnish first. Many of the sealants will reactivate your inks and they will spread and fade out some. Kamar is the best I’ve found so far. Once you have a few coats of that on, you can either resin the tiles or spray on a few coats of a UV protection spray like UV Archival by Krylon. It kind of depends on what you plan to do with the tiles. They will have more protection from damage with the resin, but if they are getting hung up or placed in a stand then the 2 Krylon sprays should be fine. Resin really looks good on them though.

    I plan to hang the tiles on a hanger in my bathroom. So I think the Kamar varnish will work then the resin. Is that how I should do it ? @@LorrieBrewer

    That is probably what I would do, especially in a high humidity spot like a bathroom. The resin will hold up better in there.

    That works well, Lorrie! Tricky surface, blower and gravity to help the flow and design. How would you fix it, same as your normal method - and then one wonders if it remains washable😂. Just a thought, I wonder if you could wedge a roll of paper in the top to act as a handle?

    What I wish I had for this is one of those things people put on cup turners, the short pole with foam or something similar at the end to hold a cup in place. That would have worked great. Although your idea would have worked if I had thought of it lol. I will seal this one like I do everything else, with Kamar and UV Archival. If I had a cup turner I would probably resin it after that so it would be at least hand washable. Maybe this is a good excuse to go ahead and buy one lol.

    Hi Lorrie just wondering if you would have to seal the vase and if you do what would you seal it with so it doesn't interfere with the inks. Thank you love the vase.

  • @LorrieBrewer

    @LorrieBrewer

    10 ай бұрын

    Yes, it will have to be sealed. I will put a few light coats of Kamar varnish by Krylon on it first, the a few coats of UV Archival by Krylon. The Kamar seals without reactivating the inks since it’s water based. I would like to put resin on it after sealing with the Kamar, but I don’t have a cup turner or any resin at the moment lol.

    WOW! Lovely...want to give it a try! Hey question...the one vase in the link has twine wrapped around it...did you try that one and were you able to remove the twine without damaging the vase surface?

  • @LorrieBrewer

    @LorrieBrewer

    6 ай бұрын

    Thank you! I was able to easily take the twine off. It was just tucked under and had just a tiny bit of some sort of glue holding it. It didn't damage it at all and it was very easy to put back on again.

    Once finished, how do you get the paint to set?

  • @LorrieBrewer

    @LorrieBrewer

    I let it sit for a few days, then spray on a few coats of Kamar varnish by Krylon. After that I spray on a few coats of UV Archival by Krylon. The first helps set the ink and the second gives it some uv protection since there is none in alcohol inks.

  • @LorrieBrewer

    @LorrieBrewer

    You always need to seal your alcohol ink work no matter what it’s on. It can be scratched and it’s not UV resistant. I use a few coats of Kamar varnish by Krylon on all my ink work to seal, then a few coats of UV Archival by Krylon. You can also resin your ink projects once they’ve been sealed with a few coats of the Kamar varnish, but I still do the UV Archival, too, before I resin. Hope this helps!
