Good video as always. for myself its easy. I kayak ohio waterways, mostly for work, so I am in shallow water often dragging. this makes pedal/power setups worthless most of the time.
Andy your content is just amazing. I want to talk with you.
I wanna know more.
Not sure what this is... i will watch
Paddles like a barge but if you just float down stream it is stable to stand and fish from.
What an awesome job to have. Your hobby, passion and job all-in-one.
Neither, I would rather have a old town sportsman 132 epdl.
Also with a motorized kayak you may have to pay taxes on the price of it to get it tagged.
Most states won't have taxes unless the kayak value is over a certain amount. It will assess as a $0
Man, you hit that right on the nose. Great content.
Appreciate the feedback!
Great video! I enjoy paddling, but the wind where I live can make trying to both fish and paddle miserable. I spend more time positioning the boat than actually fish. Even for just paddling having a rudder with foot controlled steering helps immensely; keeps the boat from spinning as much and allows for some hands-free drifting.
Very good points. It's what got me into motorizing honestly. Still value in pedal drives, but the motor Is way more efficient
@@thebeardedpaddler same! I went the basic trolling motor + AutoBoat GPS system route.
Great video. I'm thinking of installing the Newport NK 300 on my Hobie PA 14. What mounting bracket would you recommend?
Oneobjective mount is what I would suggest
I noticed you didnt speak of the warranty or much about the company. I've heard really good things about Old Town and a couple of other manufacturers but I've haven't heard much about Jackson. Like ypu stated at the beginning of the video that the company and this model kayak isn't talked about much compared to others. With a price that seems really high for a pdl kayak, the warranty really would need to be a priority.
I've talked about Jackson's warranty and service in some other videos. I stand behind the statement that they are one of the best companies to deal with for parts and warranty. I have 0 issues with Jackson in that aspect. Thank you for watching!
@thebeardedpaddler thank you for the response. I will subscribe as I am curious these vessels are not spoken of. Price is still a lot more than others of same. I will be looking into the company and the drive. Thank you for your video.
Technically Power, Pedal and Paddle for me. I mainly use power, when/if it fails i have my pedal drive onboard (its happened) and if that fails my pedals have a spot on the kayak thats out of the way. Beyond that, means my kayak is at the bottom of the lake and im swimming.
Lol I use all 3 as well. It's been dry here so the rivers have been low. That's what I love doing the most
Thank you Bearded paddler. Informative.
Anytime! Thanks for watching
Since I've discovered your channel I've enjoyed your opinions and how you present information to make it easy to digest. Would love to see you do something on inflatable kayaks.

I have a ss107 bonafide was thinking of upgrading to the pwr 129 ? Would the pwr 129 be a better padding kayak then ss107 was thinking of adding trolling motor eventually haven't seen to many motorguide xi3 on ss107 any info would be greatly appreciated
I should have one coming in the mail tomorrow but just out of curiosity did it come with the gear track screws to mount graphs? Or just the ones to mount to the boat. Edit/update: this doesn't come with the hardware to mount your graph(s) so you're gonna want a hardware kit or make due with what ya can
Are you out of North Central Arkansas by chance?
Yes I am!
What do you recommend the RVR or the U10 Sir?
I like them both for different reasons. The U10 is more versatile, and you can do a lot more with it.
Did the Little dude deserve it? 😆
www.redodopower.com/?ref=beardedpaddler Use code "paddler" for 5% off
Fun fact this was a real bait shop and I went there all the time before they closed I miss that place

It's a great tackle shop
It got me to stop and spend $$
Lmfaooo how tf he get in the White House
With the most votes in history! 🤡
How does this compare to the jackson bite? Is it more stable especially when standing up and stepping out of it going around hazards?
wish they had more tracks on the bow. I like a secure mounting area with tracks and straps vs just bungees.
It compares well. It actually paddles a little better but the capacity is not going to be as good as the bite. I love the drop down skeg
@@thebeardedpaddler Thank you. How is the primary stability? I struggle with standing up in the bite at times and feel tippy in it. Especially as i am stepping out onto downed trees. I know part of it is my poor balance but its still something i struggle with when scouting rivers.
@@thebeardedpaddler also I was watching the video again and noticed the lack of foot pegs just before you mentioned it. It was rather shocking to see a boat like this without footpegs. Im considering this as a scouting boat (if I can get past my disdain for bonafide and any other manufacturer with their bs capacity with the boat weight subtracted from it) and need a boat I can scoot over semi submerged trees. Im worried the lack of foot pegs could make this difficult. Not to mention just general handling.
I’ve had the 106pdl for 2 almost 3 years now. I rather have the Native slayer 10.6 but it wasn’t available and I couldnt wait 4 months at the time. But I got to tell you, I love my pdl 106. It works for me. I’m a bigger guy and it turns on a dime. Very stable and the seat is very comfortable. I sat on the water for up to 10 hours without an issue. Stay up on the maintenance and it will last years.
They are solid built for sure. Thanks for watching!
The Ride 115 was a great kayak. They should redo it at 12’ and 34”-35” wide. Put in a flat open floor with a framed seat like the Bite and you would have a winner.
Yeah Wilderness seems like they have been out of the fishing kayak game for a while now. I'd like to see some updates and redesigns from them
can't get a furler kit for my sail passport..apparently they broke the spring mould and cant get one down until Xmas maybe oh and was thinking of applying a clear coat on the hull as they damage and scratch easy 🎉
Love the channel, and thanks for all the info. I have been researching for quite a while, and I am currently looking at the Recon 120 HD or the Old Town PDL 120. Is there an appreciable difference between the two as far as quality or reliability goes? The swivel seat on the Recon HD has me slightly favoring it.
The pedal drive itself is the biggest difference and it's not even close. The Old Town pedal drive is the most reliable on the market. Swivel seats are nice, but I feel people don't use them as much as they thought they were going to. Demo if possible, I think you will end up preferring the Sportsman 120
@thebeardedpaddler Gotcha. The Oldtown is definitely stretching my budget, but I'll look into them and see if I can demo. The Jackson bite is another one I recently discovered and might try to demo. Are you familiar with the Lightning Nomad? They seem to resemble the older Hobie's, but information is sparse about them.
This is crazy. I literally just got done watching this movie and this is the first. Short that I get
lol, thanks for watching
I'm buying a $1700 NuCanoe Unlimited.
This makes me want to sell my motorguide and get the nk180. The nk seems to be a better option on the rivers.
Don't forget the NK300
@@thebeardedpaddler I just figured the Nk300 would be too much lol. Kinda upset it won’t let me use my discount code from govx on the Newport website. Bummer
Quite informative!Thanks.
Thank you for watching!
Try a alkaselzer pole two holes and tie it to the hook with a piece of twine. It bothers them and they eat it thinking it's danger
oh i like this one! but i really dont need any more yaks lol
Need to work on that redirection lol
I’ve been up and down between the NU10 and the PWR Bonafide. I already have a NK180. The NU10 is going to fit my needs perfectly. Thank you for this video. Love the channel!
No problem! Enjoy that Nucanoe Thanks for watching!
Biggest issue for me is steering on the Jackson FDs. The need for constant steering adjustments keeps me from buying one. They need to improve the steering controls and components. The upgrades they came out with help but did not eliminate the issue.
I agree. Jackson's issues are all fixable. They need to be fixed though
This has to be the top non-biased vid in quite some time, As an angler who at the time was Ocean Kayak Pro-Staff who qualified Hobie Fishing Worlds 3 in Victoria, Australia, from the first moment I entered a PA14, I was sold. Reasons being, primarily I have a bad spine. The use of the largest muscle group in the body with zero impact on my back was worth more than I could type. However in that same thought, weight and cost was always an issue for me, considering both Ocean Kayak and Viking Kayaks are (or were) made right here in New Zealand. For me, the Outback filled the weight vs capability in my case gap. Now I'm a salty yakker.. and the Outback is my staple. It WAS the Adventure16 aka centre portion of the AI, which I still think was a mistake to discontinue. Next best bet for me heading out wide in the salt and at speed, the Outback. Quality, zero issues. Capability in big water, zero issues. However, water tightness in big water, always carries a few litres more by end of day. Now that's not a massive issue, but wiith big fish coming home and the added water, it soon adds up. In short, I would take a Hobie in any form over any paddle yak.. if only because that's what suits and assist my failing frame. With the likes of Steve Fields at the helm of tournaments.. open and receptive to honest feedback, which is 100% fed back to Development, I have zero concern around the future of the legendary brand. A title they have earned, not 'gotten'. Yes there have been some issues since the sale, but with any new group taking over, that is always going to happen. This is a given. So for my final $0.02, as someone who was OK Pro-Staff when first encountering Hobie.. qualifying and competed at 4x Worlds and supposed to be in Canada as I type, but couldn't due to financial/personal issues, I will NEVER look back.. fact is fact. Hobie have earned their rep and I without any doubt, cannot see any concern for that not to be the case going forward. Lastly.. love your vid. Honest, non-biased and just factual. We need far more independent and honest commentary in this industry. All the best, James Darke
Thank you for your feedback and your kind words. The industry is better with a healthy Hobie
@thebeardedpaddler can't say I share too often on platforms like YT. Just invites conflict from the salty.. haha. However, as mentioned the style, fairness and overall message in your clip prompts an honest and fair response. Nice work
Is the coosa fd as or more stable than a Hobie outback?
Close. They are different hull designs. The Outback has more of a flat hull design. I would give the edge to the Outback by a little bit. Also the fin drive is going to be faster and more efficient
Would like to get one but really worried about durability
I haven't had an issues with ours. It just depends on how you are with it though.
Hey, I'm having a hard time deciding between the Pescador Pro Paddle version and the Wilderness Tarpon. I like the performance of the Tarpon, but I have lower back issues and I'm wondering if the Pescador seat might be better for me. Also, is there much of a speed difference between the two? Any suggestions or advice you can give me would be really helpful!
Pesc seat might be better for you. I would also look at maybe getting a seat cushion on it as well. The hull design between the two is very similar
@thebeardedpaddler Thanks, so you believe that the Pescador stadium seat is better? Also is Pescador much slower that is really noticeable?
The best democrats have to offer lmfao
What a JOKE
