    And that is the wrong red bull Honda. That's the Alpha Tauri second fiddle one. You should then have out Haas or Alpha Romeo. Come on, let's put the top against the top. This is misleading. It looks like Ferrari is ahead when in reality it is basically the same as Alpha Tauri or Visa whatever is called today ...ha,ha

    And f1 tv is a mess. I prefer listening to the international (sky) audio, so it already always have bit lag when switching. Then everytime need to carefully adjust the livetiming on laptop with the main broadcast on tv - and usually watching the race at least 20 seconds behind actual live broadcast. Small things, but quite annoying

    Because the car will have low drag, it will also have low downforce, and thus it will slide at the rear. It's eating through the rear tyres as seen at 0:53 and throughout. It also didn't help that he had these tyres on for 53 laps. Seems like time, the aerodynamics lost out to the dragster.

    So how much was Albin losing through the rest of the lap due to having less downforce? It seems negligible. Which then begs the question why doesnt everyone use a tiny wing?

  • @MrJohansen
    @MrJohansen12 сағат бұрын

    Canada has a lot of low speed corners where youre relying a lot on mechanical grip and not just on downforce. Big vs small wing doesn't make that much of a difference at 60mph But at a track like bahrain this would never work due to all the high speed, high df turns there. But at canada youre not losing much if you do this

  • @omsingh3982
    @omsingh39828 сағат бұрын

    you are losing some time there, but overtaking is impossible in those places until you're neck and neck, and the speed deficit in straights prevents that.

  • @qvor1996
    @qvor19966 сағат бұрын

    The grip of any car is dictated by the tyres and how well they stick to the road. Downforce pushes the tyres into the road surface, creating more friction, which primarily causes more grip, but also higher tyre temps. As we know current era f1 tyres are very sensitive to temperatures. So adding or removing downforce from the car also helps with controling the tyre temperatures, which in turn makes them work better and/or last longer. F1 is a tyre race now, not a car race. Anyway back to the initial question - why are not all the teams using low downforce setups? Because the Williams works better with lower downforce and the team made choice to sacrifice a bit of laptime in sector 1 for stronger racecar (meaning being able to defend on the straights). Every team is playing a balance game between downforce/drag/tyre temps from car perspective and oversteer/understeer from driver perspective. The setup of the car is also highly track dependent - canada has more straights, but also a twisty section in sector 1. So compromises must be made.

    It's not only rear wing. 1:13 you can clearly see Williams have shorter gear ratios, which does help to accelerate. At 312kph Albon is at 11500 RPM, while Ocon at 326kph is only at 11200 RPM. Canada is a start stop track where optimal gear ratios matter.

  • @waldo1531
    @waldo153117 сағат бұрын

    Actual great observation, the Williams car in 2023 hadd the shortest gear ratios of all f1 cars in 2023

  • @mrdraw2087
    @mrdraw208717 сағат бұрын

    Despite a tire disadvantage, Albon had great traction out of the hairpin, as Ocon couldn't get anywhere near him. DRS should have given him some lap time, but he didn't gain anything in the final sector. However, do the shorter gear ratios really make that much of a difference? These turbo engines have a fairly wide power-band, so torque shouldn't be much lower at lower engine-speeds. Low-speed acceleration mainly depends on tire grip, so I don't think the shorter gear-ratios explain why Albon was able to keep Ocon behind. Interesting set-up choice, by the way, to run low downforce and short gear-ratios.
