I found your channel just now after following you on Facebook. My report cards look like yours, the really sad part is that I was diagnosed with ADHD at 5. Even with the diagnosis I didn’t have support or services until middle school (after I almost failed 6th grade). I also related to your story about being moved to face the wall…when I was in 1st grade my teacher made a box out of gym mats and put my desk in there…. I hope you can find (or have found) the peace you need to heal. It’s not an easy journey but it is necessary. ❤️

Natural peanut butter could fix that whole terrible taste thing if you actually like peanut butter. Might not go through a straw but you could spoon it xD. Natural peanut butter has kind of saved my life in recent months with GI issues.

Struggling with this today. It's sunny and warmish out. I have the day off work. It's noon and I've wasted the whole morning. I have a list of things to accomplish today, and most important is I need to start a bike training program which I have put off day after day after day for 2 months. I always say I will start it on my next day off. I very much need to at least go for a short bike ride, and I am going to have to force myself to do it IF I do it at all. SO I sit here wasting time by feeling bad about wasting time.

Thanks for setting these back up (came here from your recent post on your FB group). I'm just starting my journey (today I tried ADHD meds for the first time!) and I'm glad you are doing well and spreading awareness of your journey. Also, NZ is a gorgeous country! It must be fantastic to have the countryside and beach as a constant companion. I hope to visit one day as one of our exchange student daughters lives on the south island. Cheers from the US

This is yet another result and tactic of systemic oppression, where being "different" is discouraged and and accosted and is because they just want "slaves" giving them more money and "power", still.

I didn't get diagnosed until 26 too. I'll be 31 this year. I actually did very well in school as far as grades, so I think it was not as noticeable. I was able to finish my work quickly enough that I could space out afterward, and I tended to not even need to pay attention in class. Most of the negative comments were about my participation (speaking up in class), since I was very shy. It became more of a problem when more things were expected of me and my coping methods couldn't keep up. My heart breaks for anyone who had those struggles. It is very sad to see what they wrote about you, and how to me it is clearly signs of ADHD rather than laziness or whatever. I was bullied in school too, but I still had some friends. I am so sorry it was so horrible for you.

I was just diagnosed at 28. I am shocked as it all makes sense, the struggles I had since being a kid...I was always told I'm depressed and have anxiety since I was before age 5. Unbelievable. I feel my parents projected their emotions onto me because of their divorce, and really I had adhd this whole time and it went unnoticed.

I’m so glad I found your channel! Do you have any advice on getting diagnosed? I’m pretty sure I have ADHD but I am unsure of what I need to do to get started.I have anxiety/depression & have been taking medication for it but it doesn’t help in regards to focusing at home and being organized. I can’t move forward because I’m going in loops & it’s worse when I can’t seem to focus or feel “normal” 😔

I was diagnosed at 11 but it wasn't until recently that I discovered that it's more than just getting distracted and daydreaming. I'm 20 now and I've had to learn through my own research that ADHD affects so much more like task handling, emotion control, eating, cleaning, ect.

Jenn this could be me. This made me cry. Oh how I wish I had an early diagnosis. It wasn't my fault. The shame spiral I rode on in school was horrific... I'm glad I have answers now. Medication and therapy have changed my life.

I care about how you struggled at school, most of the things you said relate to me heavily, especially in terms of social interaction, conversation, and that bullshit about concentration. I do hope that your diagnoses and your choice of medication/therapy helped. I am trying to get diagnosed at 24. They have sent me an extremely long psych questionnaire to fill out. Wish me luck please, it's been sitting there for the past 5 days now.

Wow. I’m really not even sure my teachers put as much effort into feedback like yours. I’ve never seen anything like that, honestly. I’ve had to go back in my own memories and dive into things I had buried to figure out if adhd is something I have. All the symptoms fit for inattentive and it’s getting worse as I get older. I’ve noticed some of the coping strategies do help. Thank you for your video and for your vulnerability. I’m so sorry you had to go through that. You deserved better!

My daughter is 13 and my twin sons are 12, and I started following you because of them (and my husband who we already knew had ADHD and ADD). We already suspected it in our kids. With our sons the doctors made it seem so obvious. With my daughter? They never DXed her. She is now 13 and it's been so difficult in school for her. We've always suspected she has sensory processing disorder as well, and quite possibly high funcitoning autism, but the doctors always told me no she isn't autistic she makes eye contact and shows emotion. :( SO NOW we're fighting all these battles with the school and trying to get her what she needs because they wouldn't listen when she was younger and now all of a sudden she's struggling. I get so angry at the schools for just not LISTENING to the children or the parents they think they know everything :( Then the kids suffer for it. Thank you so much for sharing your story.

It's heartbreaking to hear you choke up as you read the feedback from your teachers. I think it's beautiful that you acknowledge and appreciate yourself as a child. I like that you also remind people that ADHD children eventually grow up to be adults with ADHD. We aren't magically cured when we reach adulthood.

Hey Jenn, I came here from your blog post about Sailor Moon and ADHD. I'm a kiwi and grew up in the 90s with Sailor Moon too. I was undiagnosed with ADHD/ASD until a couple of years ago. I randomly had the idea to google if Serena/Usagi has ADHD which is how I ended up on your blog. Happy accident, but I enjoyed your blog. Take care.

I follow your page on Facebook, and now subscribed here. This video hit me hard. You may as well have been reading my report cards, though I'm a bit younger than you. I was diagnosed in around the 3rd grade (I'm in Canada so my grade year my be different from yours, but to put it into perspective I was about 7 or 8 ). Even with the diagnosis, the teachers still had no idea how to help me, and my report cards read really similar to yours. I guess back then, it wasn't seen as a learning disability; I was a "bad" kid.

I moved schools about every single year as a child. No teachers cared enough to get to know me. Nobody wanted to help me get better at school. So instead I had to mask, and just work harder. My worth was found in my grades by my parents(mom and step father) who were so busy with their own lives that they didn't notice either. Add CPTSD to the mix and it's just a cluster fuck.

Aww Jen, that was difficult for me to watch, but also cathartic in the best possible way. It felt as if I was reliving my childhood, but this time with a friend who understood. Getting diagnosed in mid-thirties or later in life gives us so much additional trauma to process. I wish all of us best of luck in our journeys to better days.

Ok minus the talking this was me. I got comments on my participation because I would barely talk to anyone. But instead of talking I'd suddenly clean out my bag, or change my hair or something that wasn't classwork.

Now I'm curious to go back and look at my reports from primary school... I remember words like "daydreaming" and lack of focus were used... also I distinctly remember being in 1st grade and the teacher putting her hand firmly over my mouth because I was chatting... that moment stuck in my mind forever 😥

I have struggled my whole life and have been unsuccessfully treated for depression for 20+ years and through my desire to help my daughter I realize now that I likely have ADHD, as well. Thank you for your openness and our family is learning through you.

I wasn't diagnosed until last year... when I was 34. My mom is still convinced that I don't have ADHD/ADD because I don't match the presentation she has cemented in her mind. I think I know why it took me so long to be diagnosed and it's done a lot of damage to my mental health.
