A computer video series focusing mainly on retro technology from the 80s, 90s and 2000s. However, once or twice a year I'll create something totally "out there." My main goal at this point is to make educational content about retro technology that is interesting and engaging. Some people will be re-living their childhood, while others will be experiencing the technology for the first time.

Spent 11 years coding on a WDC 65C02. Was fun for most of it but did reach my limit.
Atari 800 was my first console/computer... I still have it. I still think it's a beautifully designed machine. Nothing triggers the nostalgia like the little squeak it makes when I open the cartridge door. lol
There’s a game engine called Pico 8. It has a language very similar to basic
it is still crapple
This cpu put a computer within in my reach for the first time in 1986 in the form of a VIC20... and it had an ultimately huge impact on my life ....
Hi all! Does anybody knows some software that can convert video to 50 Hz interlaced format and into AVI format? I like the VHS very much, most of my movies are on VHS, and i have an old but perfectly working Funai V-3EE and a few hundreds of cassettes, and sometimes buying more. They are SUPER cheap now, and it's possible to get really good quality cassettes like old BASF, TDK, Hitachi and others from mid to late 80s. I want to record some movies to them, but video files often have a frequency of 60 Hz and my recorder works in PAL (50 Hz). And when i hook up my DVD player with a CD-RW with a movie on it to TV-set, and manually choose PAL in the settings, it produces PAL60Hz. TV-set (old Universum "cube" from the early 90s) can handle it, but the video recorder can not synchronize because it is made for 50 Hz PAL and only for it, and it just records a jumping black and white image with a very fast blink of color in the middle of every "jump". A video drum constantly changes it's speed at that time, because it's trying to catch the synchro signal, and can't do this. I hope that in the big audience of David there is someone who knows some software that converts video to 50 Hz AVI, and works on the Windows XP computer with 512 Mb of RAM. If you know something that, please tell me. And sorry if my English is not so good, i am from Ukraine)
Haha..Strip Poker 4:04 on Atari 400 must have been a blast for that 13 year old lucky enough to upgrade from stick figures on a 2600
I forgot how sepia the early 80s were. Good times.
As a kid growing up in the 80s I would have killed for the Sound Sampler, but these cartridges were extremely rare in Europe. I remember I got the Magic Voice cartridge ( which was super lame ).
Be thankful some dummy didn't grab these and scrap them for less than a gram of gold content.
Camera interference at 13:44 just made it all more more 1979 BBC looking. The beeb would have spent a lot of money for that effect.
The 6809E is STILL better.
Great review! I had encounter on the 800XL and played it a lot. Master of the Lamps! I forgot about that game! Also good fun :)
Bibliothek Archive oder Moderne Technikern mit Scanner Lifting....................
Good Morning
3:46 As 54 years old and still own about 20 Atari games still I can only , on the surface of things Recommend 8 of these games out of these selections for this system. Bezerk I still have from back in those days too , one of my very faves. I still have Asteroids also.
2:35 As like a D pad yes?
BATTLE ZONE..
It always amazes me how these things worked back in the 80s and 90s. After knowing the principal behind it, it only amaze me even more that they can make this kind of tech 30-40 years ago.
Do you know what the IBM 7094 is
Gotta love VHS’s
Fuck mini consoles. They should rebuild the actual thing. Ah well, here's to 3D printing.
I am stoked to visit Time Rift during VCF SW! WOOOOOO
Pitfall was released in 1982
The image looks like it came from a "lost footage" horror movie.
The closeups around 16:00 are nice to show that the mask on a CRT can't be considered a "pixel", because the phosphors can be partially lit (e.g., one half is dark, the other half is bright). Which doesn't make sense for digital elements.
Fantastic video! Would love to watch a similar one from you dedicated to the Z80, another iconic CPU.
Ah, the Apple close bracket open bracket. Good times.
Now I'm curious what apple computers we used in the late 80s early 90 for elementary school... And then in Jr high for early to mid 90s. Green screens for both, floppy drives were attached I'm pretty sure, Jr high cases were more black while elementary were that lighter tone. Elementary we learned how to type, and my first gaming experience of Oregon trail. Jr high we were shown them for a week, went from catholic school to public, definitely a more advanced education compared to public. 35 minutes in and none look like what I remember, but some of the monitors do. Oh and high school we had one computer class, full color monitors, a mix of windows 95 and 3.11. Wasn't even a full semester of a class, just a quarter, to learn a small bit of qbasic. Our algebra teacher taught us, I made a dice program on it. Pretty sure most didn't even know how to type, as they didn't have Mavis beacon sessions growing up.
I really wonder what Jim Butterfield would have thought of the X16. I think he would have loved it! Growing up...Jim was EVERYWHERE. He was like the wizard Merlin, always there to help a whole generation of kids quest to master the Commodore computer! Someday, he'll be properly remembered.
Is the screen tearing in the Wolf3D footage evident on original hardware or a result of the capture method?
That is the incorrect nintendo seal logo you’re looking for the one that says “official nintendo seal of quality” you have the newer “official nintendo seal” one. EDIT: I realize I’m 6 years late
In Nigeria, when buying a used laptop from computer village they will sell the power adapter separately to you for more money.
Jupiter Lander was my 1st game on the 20
What thumbnail you want Just fuck my shit up fam
a trip down memory lane. Yes, the only cool thing about it at the time was that it could talk.
You seem very positive/higher energy/happier in this video. Perhaps it shows your recent career direction change agrees with you.direction Perhaps not. ✌
gee whiz i really wish someone would come out with a mini dos emulation box or even windows 98 even more like the oregon hand held game

J'ai appris le basic sur un zx81 de Sinclair. Je me suis perfectionné avec le basic des ordinateurs de la norme MSX. C'était un plaisir de programmer et une grande satisfaction de lancer son propre programme.
I don't know why, but for some reason I find this the cutest "mini" that's been released yet.
Yes, this is a good selection of games!
I had entered the pre-order for the 400 mini, but canceled it a week later as I was getting a bad vibe. After seeing the problems as reported on AtariAge, I'm glad I did.... I still have my original 800 I bought new in 1983 with the help of a Home Improvement loan :) I am also one of the guys that assembled a working Atari 1450XLwith the modem and Speech Chip. Thank you for all the videos you have produced, I enjoy watching the 8-bit PC reviews / repairs. I'm also the proud owner of the X16 Dev Board #0069 :) Also have 2 C64c's and a C128...
I've played Yoomp! on my 130XE and 800XL.
Here's some titles to add to your USB stick: Saracen Mr. Do! & Mr. Do's Castle Donkey Kong: the BEST port of it from that day Zenji (Activision) Joust, another excellent port of a William's classic Pooyan Threshold Apple Panic Choplifter both the Robotron:2084 & Stargate William's ports are good Pengo and the unreleased (officially) Pac Man Jr.
The black bars in Atari 2600 games, often referred to as "comb", were actually due to a bug in the TIA chip. It's triggered by repositioning objects during visible scan lines, effectively writing to strobe registers like RESP0 and RESP1.
And, as always, Thanks for Making, David.
the game you are playing called "zombies" was Originally called " The Realm of Impossibility !""
I've been a subscriber for years. I was wondering do you have a video showing how to install a C128 emulator on windows 10 wherein you can load commodore basic programs? I have many old programs I made decades ago but it seems I cannot find an emulator that will load ?.BAS" programs.
The audio was amplified by a single nu-tube gain stage, obviously, which resulted in a 180 degrees phase shift. This is normal, each common cathode / emitter / source gain stage does that.
