Huddle Around Games

Hey hey hey everyone! Zulwarn here from Huddle Around Games! I'm an aspiring Cribbage master and permanent student of the game, and boy, do I have a long way to go!

I've been playing Cribbage for over 20 years and made it my mission to 1) get better at the game, 2) spread the love of Cribbage to more people, and 3) find other nerdy people like me!

On this channel, I share my games, tips and tricks, my wins, and my losses (of which there are many!).

If you're interested in learning more about Cribbage or just to watch me lose, please subscribe and follow the channel and community!

I post 1-2 times per week, mostly Cribbage games with a scattering of Cribbage strategy and rules videos here and there.

I play Cribbage mostly on Cribbage Pro, where my username is ZulwarnX, and on eCribbage, where my name is ZulwarnGames.

If you want to donate and support my content and coffee addiction, feel free! Donations are always appreciated but never expected.

    So in the peg phase why didn’t you get points for a pair of aces when you laid down the ace of diamonds (12:28)?

  • @HuddleAroundGames

    They have to be next to each other in the sequence to count as pairs.

    On the cheat sheet: We have a question on your pegging four of a kind. You list four of a kind with 4 queen example. Wouldn't this be more than 31 and only work on 7 value or less cards? Thanks for your videos.

  • @HuddleAroundGames
    @HuddleAroundGames20 күн бұрын

    Absolutely true. Four of a kinds in your hand or crib or pegging are all worth 12, but only 7 or less will work when pegging because you’d go over 31 and split the sequence up. I might go back and change it now that you mention it. That does sound confusing for a new person.

    Hey bud, thx again for the video. Sent you a previous message, not looking to horn in on your YT channel, but would love to just chat with you on advanced cribbage play, among other ideas. Know how to read your opponent; holding/playing of pairs, their throwaways, their speed of play & speed of discard, even how they hold the cards in their hands. Positional cribbage, knowing when to play on/play off - shuffling & great variations of the game. Would love to chat and pick your brain! Fellow cribbage nut, thx man!

    I enjoyed this video and understood each step - except for Step 3: Winners or Losers. Have you gone into this aspect in greater detail in another video? P.S. Thank you for the reminder to look for flushes. (So many things to remember...)

  • @HuddleAroundGames
    @HuddleAroundGamesАй бұрын

    I haven’t gone into that aspect before. Winners are basically cuts that improve your hand. Losers are cuts that don’t (or improve the other person’s crib based on what you tossed).

    Maybe it’s because of the oversimplification that it seems bad (and I probably don’t explain it right if the 60 seconds I gave it 😂), but board positional play IS critical in winning more games!

    Q1: Player A & B alternate playing cards while announcing running total and respective pegging points until A cannot play without exceeding 31, at which point A says “go”. Does B peg 1 for Go at this point? Q2: Suppose B can then play a card without going over 31 and A responds with another “Go” - does B receive another 1 pegging point for another Go? Q3: is there a difference between Go and Last Card?

  • @HuddleAroundGames
    @HuddleAroundGames2 ай бұрын

    1. B pegs one point for Go! When they also cannot play. 2. No. You only get one point per Go. Go is not given until no one can play. 3. Not really. They can be considered basically the same thing.

    I choose JK to toss for emotional reasons, i can't do all the analysis @chriswalker did. I feel powerless with face cards for pegging, and with French fry cards to start, i need a sense of control. The cost of my emotional choice is a half point, a worthy trade off, and not worth my fussing over.

    I lean towards dumping the K,J into the crib. You do have a magic 11 with the A,3,7. The Jack is a crap shoot unless you have a weaker player who tosses it out that brings the count below 22. Most of the time that Jack is coming out to get it 22 or above. I personally don't ever bank upon pairing the Jack. The other 4 cards are much easier to pair against during pegging. Also Kings tend to be tossed in the crib by the Pon. Pair of Kings and a Jack in the crib along with a Queen cut. Easy straight 8 possibly 9 depending upon if the Queen of Hearts is the cut. If a 5 is cut it's still potentially 8 or 9 in the crib. That's my idea of how to hold the hand.

  • @HuddleAroundGames
    @HuddleAroundGames2 ай бұрын

    Funny how it can be justified in so many ways. A379 is the strongest hand for pegging. For sure!

    The stink hole is at 90 and the dead hole is at 120. Boy you squeaked by on that last one. Very close and good call by not pairing it. Pairing is so tempting but must resist when it matters the most.
