I hate the term black people are a monolith. Has anyone been to Africa? Many black people like metal from all over. Why dont white people from europe like country music, these are dumb questions.

Metal was very close to punk rock at the beginning. It was socially conscious, it could get political. I think the main thing that is going against metal is harsh vocals and what’s being said in the lyrics. Not every one can relate to Hammersmashed face, or Angel of Death. Hip Hop is more lyrical and touches on topics that everyone who grew up in that street environment can relate to. While it has developed at times into flexing wealth, that is something the culture still can appreciate, because the guy bragging came up from nothing and is now wearing Gucci and flying on private jets. While as a 16 year old who didn’t fit in, I found a release in metal. It’s kind of like it was made for me because I was an outcast. I was able to channel my rage through music. I grew up in a suburb and I didn’t like the same things as everyone else. I wanted to stand out in some way and metal was a catalyst.

Muh racism. Get real, if it's such a "white space" then is rap a black space? I've seen plenty of black people complain about white rappers. Get over yourself

I am black and I listened to heavy metal. I remember when my father hated me listening to Cannibal Corpse and wanted me to deleted the album off my phone, but I still listen to it. During that time, it was good and bad times for me. When it was the bad times, metal made me feel good and it got the energy out of me.

Is it? Where I live, all I hear is right wing ideology. I see people flying Trump's Flag like it's old glory. That reads as blind fanaticism to me. There's a lot more of this social thing I'm seeing where people want to feel you out and see if you're MAGA enough. That kinda shit goes beyond support in my eyes, and gets right into a sickening darkness I just can't side with. This is coming from someone just as sick of the far left bullshit plaguing our media and now our lives. The pendulum doesn't need to swing. The fucker needs to slow down and meet some of us folks in the middle.

Here in my country I can see that most metalheads have conservative stances (and even worryingly fascist in some cases), mainly because one of the biggest names of the genre over the years had been taking a more conservative stance... And that's why, being myself a metalhead, never felt to "fit in", even with people that share similar musical tastes. I don't know if it's just me, but for me it's quite absurd to call yourself a metalhead and being conservative.

Many white metal musicians are racist to black metal heads in my experience. Been to way too many metal shows across the country where the black metal heads were being bullied by whites. Doesn’t happen all the time but it shouldn’t happen at all. Even been in a couple of bands where at least one member refused to let a black guy audition. Didn’t happen in every band but enough bands showed their true colors.
