Chapter 1 of Sailing Wave Rover (a 1979 Contessa 26)is all about how I rebuilt her from the keel up in 2018-19. After her launch in 2019 we (Wave Rover and me) embarked on a one year Atlantic circuit. We crossed the Atlantic twice and had some great adventures as can all be seen in the early episodes.
The channel continues 20 Aug 2021 with the building of my new boat. Wave Rover hull #1 is a brand new 21foot design that has been designed by a Naval Architect. It encompasses all the things I require to fulfill the Wave Rover philosophy of keeping it small, strong, and safe. This as yet to be named craft is designed to complete a solo circumnavigation that I hope to start upon the completion of the building stage. Join me as I build and sail Wave Rover hull #1.

How can you sleep? Aren't you scared that a big container ship will sink you?
Have a Tophat MK1 25" with 10hp diesel only use 1lt an hour full keel
I’ve lived in Baltimore my whole life. Sailing is so much fun!
So glad to see you made it to the Azores!!
Happy Sailing
How do you protect against being tossed overboard? Do you wear a safety line when you're on deck, or trail a life preserver in case you lose your footing? So many things for us land lubbers to be worried about......
You dont happen to be related to Ronnie Pickering do you?
In your video scan of cabin - you have the absolutely sparest, cleanest cabin of a long distance sailor I have ever seen! Something to aspire to for all the good practical sense in it. Was it difficult to achieve, & and how did you actually accomplish it?
Glad to see your safe and sound. Well done.
Good to see inside Pete and Linda's boat. I remember seeing her in Southdown Marina, Millbrook, where I keep my junk rigged Corribee.
Hello future Alan.
Congratulations! And we have missed everything!
Appreciate all the detailed data you share in your videos!
I saw your boat in Horta.
As they say "clear blue sea" 🎉
Crikey, i thought you were still in Chesapeake Bay, 😮 Fair winds Skipper ⛵
All winter I watched AIS for position updates, then you splashed the boat and I forgot to keep up 🤦♂️ 😂 looks great!
Such a good looking 'ship', and what a nice weather you experience. More _fair winds and following seas_ to you Alan and Wave Rover II
Do you have a heater
Hurrah
Outstanding
Wow, that is some beautiful sailing!
That's awesome! I'm very happy for you. What a journey, so far... Fair winds.
Good to see you and very happy all is WELL!
Ponta Delgada? Safe Sailing.
Faial
@@SailingWaveRover Good, have some bacalhau and green wine.
Sunny skies, fair winds and a deep blue sea … brilliant! ⛵️😄
Nice episode Alan. Liked that you broke it up with a lot more camera angles. Looking forward to some nicer weather. The overcast, grey day, wind and heel looks cold and uninviting to me. I was out in October once and felt like I shouldn't be out there… I’m a fair weather sailor, :) Fair winds…
Ha, right after i posted that, the next scene you’re in the anchorage under a clear sky. :) I love your content it really feels like we’re traveling along with you.
Amazing
Thank you! Cheers!
What mental preparation do you prefer to deal with loneliness and endless water? How has modern communications changed our ability to deal with remoteness? BT w I am happy to see my name on that bulkhead. Safe travels Alan.
I really feel at home with the isolation but in the future videos I share some of the thoughts that are running through my head.
WR2 looks so sweet moving through the water as if she is totally up to the challenge. She exudes confidence and competence, the double C’s of success. Great job Allen!
😊 thank you
That’s a strong boat.
WR2 looking good. Just wondering about you Allen. Have you lost weight since leaving home? Missing Mrs Rover's cooking? Make sure you look after yourself. You need to keep your strength up!
Thank you for your concern but feeling as strong as ever.
@@SailingWaveRover You were supposed to say that you missed my cooking! lol
Congrats on getting Wave Rover sorted with the design improvements on the keel, and steering. Your hard work and insights are fine tuning the boat into an elegant, solid, performer. Bravo!!
Much appreciated!
Hi Allen, With the added Wight to the keel how would rate the your new motion? Keep up with your great videos.
It's good
You are my hero!!!
Thank you for another nice video. You've built a wonderful boat. I'm in the process of getting a 44' boat ready to cruise with my wife. We're still a number of years off. She has wonderful long soft hair. One thing she needs is a hair dryer and lots of water to wash it with, so that's helping to set the bar for what systems I need on the boat... : ) Small price to pay to have her along. Fair winds.
life`s good i personally prefer sailing in this weather, sun and flat sea`s no so much. how about you?
Hello Alan, thank you for these inspiring and well done videos, I noticed your anchor, is it Delta, what about those sticks on both sides, are they just for holding it on the rail, it would be nice to have a closer look at the system. Br. Esko, Finland
i want one of those boats. but the guy you told me to email quoted me over 100k to build it.
must be the wrong currency
@@UUBrahman usd currency
@@JohnBraman413 I agree that it doesn't make sense at that price.
I absolutely love that forward looking window from inside the cabin! So handy!
I love the bulkhead with the names of the friends of the boat! Great way to pay tribute to the people who really care!
Thx
Sorry, sir, but I feel like the title is a bit of a click bait. Your boat is not a pocket cruiser. You can call it as you want. But it's not. Or your pocket is extra deep. But a pocket cruiser is way smallet and cheaper than your vessel man.
For crossing the Atlantic and the Pacific? For going around the world? At 21 ft. and truly capable? And did this one really cost $100,000 to build? These are times of cynicism and disinformation, my friend.
Did you run into any of the Real Housewives of the Potomac?
Always a true sailor that starts off the video showing the compass.
She makes some lovely noises when underway! That creaking had me nodding off 😂. See ya later eh...
That is great! If I remember right, you don't have actual heater in the boat do you? That would make it even more pleasant and comfy... 🥰
Go! 💪 👋 from Italy 🇮🇪
Thanks again for taking us along, Captain. Just curious to know if you’re going to take the outboard off and stow it when you get offshore. Fair winds and following seas.
