In this video, Wave Rover departs the fabulous anchorage of Fairlee Creek and arrives in Bear Creek, Baltimore. A Rover hero makes a resourceful visit and later I run into difficulty getting a drawbridge to open. "Forge Your Own Adventure"

I spent many a night at Fairlee Creek on my little cabin cruiser. I love that spot It can get quite rowdy on summer weekends when Jellyfish Joel’s is hopping.

Oh yes the joy of draw bridges, they are perfectly spaced all along the Inter Coastal Waterway, so that even at 5 knots, you can never seem to time them for their scheduled openings. And when they open you are often greeted by a large power yacht coming the other way and providing you with a lovely wake to roll you with

I've had times when the beauty of where I am is so overwhelming to me that it sort of hurts to try to take it all in. It's like the beauty can't fit into my heart. It is beyond me to really appreciate what I'm seeing and experiencing. I don't know what the "solution" to this is. When visiting national parks, I've found that I can appreciate views much better if I just sit down for a hour or two and just look and look at what I'm seeing. Contemplate what everyone else saw and experienced over the centuries in this place. But the places that "hurt" to try and take it all is aren't necessarily some grand view in a national park. It can be just a wonderful anchorage. Maybe the issue is that these beautiful places bring many parts of my life together. I love boating, I love nature, I love working hard to get what I want, I love quiet and peace, I love experiencing new things... Maybe this "pain" is from all of these factors coming together at one time... sort of like a "rogue wave" of my life's values. I also think that the "pain" is caused by the knowledge that I can't stay, but I must move on. Fair winds.

May sunshine warm your face, And kindness warm your soul. And, until we meet again, May God bless you and keep you safe. Hold fast! ⛵️☘️🇨🇦🍺🌞

Alan I have found that an electric throw blanket works well with a solar generator and on the low settings it is quite the power miser. I have used ours when camping in a tent with the grandkids 👍

I've never been in Bear Cr. but I've been in Fairlee at least 50 times. So this video was fun for me. Thanks! Too bad you had to motor all the way over to Baltimore. BTW, I think that was the I695 bridge you went under - I95 is a tunnel underwater.

Well, Alan ol'e Son ..the old saying " sh!t happens". Another great video. I do have an engine related question though. I remember suggesting that engine for your boat and told you it would "push her at 6 kts all day long". I'm wondering if it does or does the slightly shorter water line and double keel hinder that. Another question is will that engine hold it's own in a bit of chop, or is she underpowered. I was thinking it would be a perfect fit but really didn't consider the extra drag and travel weight. Mo

Lovely boat, great design. I’m curious as to the safety of being on the cabin top deck, as it appears there are no toe rails, and definitely no lifelines to stop a slip of the foot. Under way, in weather, if a need to go forward arose, it seems quite risky to be on that deck. Could you explain the safety of working on the cabin deck when the need arises?

  • @sailoutofagarage6212

I think the argument is that there is no need to go forward, all controls are aft.

Very little need to go forward with all the controls aft. If I need to go forward I tie into a center-line Jack-line and tether off .

@@SailingWaveRover Thanks for your reply, Alan. I have a 22' Catalina, swing keel, with trailer, which a friend gifted me. As a climate warrior, I can't bring myself to purchase a 3 HP Tohatsu long shaft, as I can't justify the fossil fuel usage for recreational use. So, I am going to try a Minn Kota C2 55# 42, as an alternative, using two deep cycle traction batteries charged with solar. A second alternative is a pair of Concept2 carbon graphite oars, using fabricated winch caps with oarlocks. Unfortunately the friend who gave me a deal on the Catalina, was also the owner of a mooring where I kept my JJ Taylor Contessa 26. However, without being able to find a mooring on Lake Champlain or other location close to me, I look forward to a summer of weekender/trailer sailing. I may be down in DC to support a fellow activist for their court appearance on April 26, however, presently I am banned from DC. If I can get a bye to come down, I will try to look you up if you are still around, and within Metro or Amtrak reach. Safe Travels, Bob
