    Great effort by the whole Wave Rover Rescue team. Next week Wave Rover is back at sea in high winds and big seas as the rest of the fleet stays safely at anchor (I consider next weeks video to be one of my most exciting...just saying).

    It was a pleasure to meet you and be part of the little rescue team. So glad we could get him off those rocks. It is always so heartbreaking to see. That's one of best parts of this cruising community. Everyone helps each other out.

    The sound of the hull grinding on the rocks is a very unpleasant sound for any sailor to hear. I checked for water ingress and there wasn't any. Before departing I advised the skipper to get a look at the bottom as soon as possible.

    Good job! That is what I love about the mariner community right there. I also have a small boat and use the Danforth as my primary anchor. Maybe I need to rethink that?

    I think the Danforth is still a good anchor, but his was undersized for those conditions.

    The sailing community is such a great crew. No mattr the skill or experience, everybody pitches in to help. Tbis sailior will take what he learned and pass it along. Sometimes sailing is very competetive, but first sign of trouble and people band together. Lesson to all. Fair winds.

    Good day Alan. Glad it worked out. Glad the owner showed up is happy about the outcome. That he is a follower is amazing.enough. But Wildly intrepid too? I follow them as well. Their channel is a bit removed in time and space (Their last post had them on lake Erie). I look forward to see their version of this. Interview each other if you are still sharing an anchorage.

    Great to hear from you my friend. In the heat of the moment I didn't recall your vessels name. But I put a FB post out yesterday with a shortened version and both your names and your boat are superimposed. You guys will be featured again in a couple of weeks as WR catches up to you in Chesapeake City.

    Been anchored there a few times. That hidey hole is generally safe BUT do probe around before dropping a hook. There is junk and sunken steel pieces of who knows what that are concerning. Nice save, folks...

    The secondary anchor was a Danforth type, but what was the primary? An oversized anchor and lots of scope is cheap insurance!

    Could you also have tilted the boat by attaching a rope to the mast? May have given you less draught??

    I don't think draft was the problem, I don't think she was stuck on the bottom. I think the dinghies couldn't pull her off because of the windage on the larger vessel. We could see the motor power they needed just to keep the dinghies themselves from blowing onto the rocks.

  • @TheCaptainjz
    @TheCaptainjz5 ай бұрын

    When pulling a vessel off...like that doesn't work, many times I've pulled SIDEWAYS on the stuck vessel's HALYARD. It heels it over...decreasing draft and almost always frees it.

    its an option, but easy to break something in the mast top. so better to try something more material friendly first.

    Yeah its nice that people are watching out for each other out there. However, have people got into trouble trying to do a good deed saving someone's boat and it turned out bad for the good intent? No one is on the boat and asking for help, in the interest of keeping the boat out of harms way, you handle it and turn into a liability for you. Has anyone have experience?
