    Why cover up EVERY SHOT with words and letters instead of showing the paintings unmolested? What a waste.

    A second time watching this excellent tutorial for what I consider a very difficult landscape subject. I've been trying to figure out how to paint a photograph I took of a mouth of a creek, on a beach full of river stones as far as the horizon can see. I will definitely use a lot of the techniques used here. THANK YOU, excellent tutorial.

    The proper title would be "From Order to Chaos." Salvador Dali was correct: Americans, and their dropping of the atomic bomb upon another nation, were the impulse of the deconstructionism of natural and human order. Nothing has been the same since. Then, the Americans detonated the "abstract expressionism" bomb, which was the atomic bomb in the world of art. Bomb after a bomb, blast after a blast. This video shows that now, 80 years later, we are dealing with the side effects of blasts and the radiation that is still burning our tissue and art, trying to find ways to live with damage and deformations in both.

    Watercolours are heavily dependent on paper quality. JS Sargent used French-made paper for his charcoal drawings, but used British-made paper for his watercolours. Unfortunately for us today, we use French-made watercolour paper and its derivatives, which were designed more for 20th century abstract art. It makes many Sargent's techniques and results difficult to repeat.

    Couldn't agree more. Also I've been diving into materials the greats used. I've discovered the brushes and the paints are vastly different. There's more than skill when you look at a van dyke or a sargent. I truly believe the materials are far superior. I'd imagine it being similar to the feeling of a sturdy American car from the 60s vs hopping into a Toyota corolla. We may be able to have the most advanced materials.. But if they are built on a foundation of cheap ways to make a buck over quality, it really doesn't matter. Sometimes capitalism gets the best of us. Lol

  • @zvonimirtosic6171
    @zvonimirtosic617128 күн бұрын

    @@alex24mamba You're correct. Not only the papers we use were redesigned for a different purpose, but the paints we use are sourced from the manufacturing process for the automotive industry and exterior paint and coatings industry. Paints are then constantly reformulated without our consent or knowledge. Pigment sizes in coatings industries are 3-10x smaller than smallest art pigments of 100 years ago, which makes watercolour in particular more difficult and over-saturated. Reformulated paper and paint destroy our fine-art brushes quickly. Paper is too abrasive, destroys the brush tips; pigment is too fine, clots the hair to suboptimal performance. If we care about fine art at all, we need to manufacture fine art materials from scratch and specifically for art purposes, as we once used to.
