Not just yet, but getting there, .a too narrow toebox, too little volume maybe, too tall sides and the heel cup is not ergonomic, for the rest,.BEST Altra shoe, love it
If you have to choose, the 2.5 or the 4?
Oh, great question! Hard to say. Although I really loved the 2.5, I'm going to say 4, simply because the base of the shoe is slightly wider and the upper more stable preventing my foot from overpronating too much.
The only video about this product which exists. Thanks for that. Otherwise I will never understand, why I see more person than product. But that is a problem of all reviewers.
Hey, thanks for the feedback! I suppose when I made the video, I didn't expect it to get as many views as it is. Is there anything in particular you still wanted to know about the box?
Whats your current fave Altra road running shoe?
Great question! I've really been enjoying the Rivera 4 lately. A shoe that can do anything
Compared to the 4’s, they run small.
what’s the width in the toe box like
Great video! I do this race next year. I subscribe to your channel. All the best, Hannes
Thanks for the sub! It's a great race and excellently organised. Highly recommended. Good luck!
I'm not much for GTX Lows, but that color way is dope🤟. I tried on a pair of Timp 5 and they felt great. Thanx for the video my Running 🏃 Brother 👍
Darn I wanted to say that, awesome ! Can't wait for it
Best of luck with the 50k. Love your reviews and your hair!
Thanks, thanks and thanks! Not sure which of the 3 I'm most thankful for 😅 but I'm glad my reviews are helpful to others.
🤔12.43 miles isn’t bad. How soft were they? I tried another model from Altra on the elliptical (I’m trying to still do cardio til my plantar fasciitis heals). The Rivera 3 midsole feels kind of hard. It could just be that I wasn’t flexing my foot and didn’t have any impact, but even still, it felt like these shoes don’t have any bounce. They’re lighter than my Pegasus runners, but don’t feel as soft and/or bouncy. I’m hoping to find Altras that feel more like Nike Pegasus, just with the more anatomical design.
Thanks for the review! I currently have escalante 3. Will it be much harder to run in escalate racer? Should I update to racer or escalate 4? I love minimal shoes, but I can't run much in totally barefoot shoes. I usually run in the heart zone 2, 5-10km. Also, maybe altra superior is worth updating to? Thanks 🙏
2mm less is an easy transition. Superior too! Great for working the foot strength. I wouldn't see a reason why you couldn't run in the Racer. Esky 4 is slightly heavier and thicker upper, but also a good choice.
I had quad tendon ruptured in October 2023, surgery 5 weeks later (weeks of muscle wasting). Stability in that leg is been one of my biggest issues. I also am a nurse, so I shoe shop not for running (yet), but walking and comfort. Due to stability issues in the recovering leg, stability has become a priority instead of just comfort and cushion. Right now, this is my absolute favorite shoe. For me, as a 6'3, 275 male, it feels minimal, yet enough cushion to be comfortable overall. And I can get these in my normal size due to the generous toe box. Overall, they just give me a very natural feeling as I walk. They are my fav shoe, with Torin 7 and Arahi 6 from Hoka in second
What about durability? My concern is that the new external soles look like they won't last long as compared to the earlier versions.
I'll keep an eye on them! I think it also depends on footlanding and body weight. I actually barely wear down the outsole, but I've seen some crazy worn down shoes.
It helps. When I tried them on, I felt they'd be too stiff for my liking and that I'd have to rely on the toe spring to roll forward, which is not what I want. I don't want the shoe to roll; I want it to plant and bend.
Curious to know if the comfort and foot feel is comparable to the Escalante 3, aside from the differences in the upper? Like you, I actually love to wear the 3 as a casual shoe. A bit more plushness and flexibility had it overtake my Lone Peaks as an everyday wear around shoe (though Michigan weather makes the Lone Peak great still on certain days). Wondering if the 4 could still be a casual everyday shoe while maybe serving as a dedicated long walk/light jog shoe.
love it so much i bought two, and the racers.
Agree about escalante 3- I preferred 2.5
The predecessor has disappeared in my size. I don't want the heavy and stiff version 2 - but there is no other shoe on the market that is similar. I'm heartbroken. I should have stocked up but I didn't
What is your size? 🤔
@@victorguzman146 Eur 43
It is heavier and stiff which is very noticable to my mind. The v1 was already borderlin heavy. Racing flat should be at around 175g in standard size. The original was 210g, which was tolerable but 249 isn't. Also th ebarefoot feeling is dumbed down. It's less flexible.
purely an aesthetic opinion, but I sure wish they would get rid of that weird toe piece or at least make it wider.
Come to hear about the fit, how its compared with previous interations, as with altra its always a challenge...but missed this most important part😮😢
I'll include it in my full review! Thanks for the feedback!
Waiting for the feedback regarding the Escalante 4 as I need to change my Escalante 3 soon. Your KZread channel is a bliss. Thanks a lot TD!!!
Thanks! That means a lot 🙏🏻
I hated the E 3 for soaking up so much water..what about the E 4?
I haven't had the opportunity to test that yey, but will definitely be doing that this week. Mother nature has given me that luck 😅
Its just synthetic upper, as everywhere
Dam it! Have to order these. 😬
Merci pour cette analyse TD Miller 👍
Any change in the outsole? I like the escalante 3 but it’s a pain to run fast on wet pavements
Good point! The biggest difference is that the 4 has less outsole covering the shoe, so there's more exposed midsole. I don't see or feel any particular improvement in traction on wet surfaces. 👎🏻
Pretty ballsy for Altra to call this the Escalante “2” when basically it’s new colors. It’s the same shoe.
I’ve tried already on in the store but never owned any. The Olympus is way too wide in the forefoot but the torin seems to be fine on the width. Are these wide like the Olympus?
The Timp are more similar to the Torin than the Olympus in width 👍
Your channel would make a great forum to contrast Altra shoes versus Topo Athletic Shoes 🦋👣
If only Topo would answer my emails 😅
Finally got my Timp 5, yes the issues reported are there but even with those, for me the Timp has the best Altra sole, and now even better making it my PR breaking shoe and that's 99% on the road, it should do pretty well on the trails too. Can't wait for the Timp LOW GTX or Goretex.
When I said sole, it means the best platform, the best foam and foam thickness, responsiveness, and now finally with Vibram. The upper part is a different story.
Could be used in case of medium and high arc feet?
The 2 is a crime. It means the original will disappear. But the 2 is worse in every respect. The one was a great shoe but already too heavy (211g at my size), the 2 is 249g . To put things into perspective: lightweight shoes by saucony or asics weigh between 150 and 180g. This is 2024 you shouldn't run in shoes that weigh more than 200g. 249 is ludicrous. Who is going to buy them?
unfortunately, I'll still buy them because they're the only available wide toe box shoe in my country. And I 100% agree based on the reviews I've watched so far, this racer 2 isn't an upgrade from the OG racer, sadly. I daily racer and even race w/ it, but with how the racer 2 is, I now need to buy a race day shoe.
Which models weight 150-180g? Sounds very lightweight
@@veijomarin813 saucony endorphin racer, kinvara 14. asics piranha, hyperspeed 6, evoride, metapeed paris edge and sky
It's heavier unfortunately 😢
It's not noticeable imho. I have both in 10US and see 0.8oz difference 🤷🏻♂️
Been running in Altra shoes for two years, no issues or pain. Bought the Hoka Speedgoat 5 (4mm drop), can’t do it, pain in the middle of the feet and weird feelings in my knees, it just feels wrong, like having a chewing gum under the heel. The Lone Peak 8 feels like a dream! Enjoying your content a lot, keep it up! 🇸🇪
Hej! Tack 😁👌
Escalante 2 2,5 and 3 have been great and this would be too, versatile, flexible, great groundfeel, wide toe box, one of my favoirites, maybe the best model!
North face made a compromise for flexibility and compactness with this box. I would strongly prefer that this be made of the bombproof 1000 Denier with PVC coated material like the standard Base Camp Duffel instead of the more flimsy 300 Denier TPU coated fabric of Base Camp Voyager. Alas, this is made from the weaker material. This is a miss. I hope TNF comes out with a version of this box with the tougher material. The intended use is not for day trips. It’s for outdoor abuse.
I just bought my second pair of the 3 even though the first pair is perfectly fine. I just wanted to use them for everyday life more than other shoes and I wanted to keep the feeling for longer. Definitely got my feet stronger in only a few weeks, I don't know how the 4 are going to be but I prefered to buy a 3 model before there are no more available in shops
Yep, I also wore my 3s for casual use too. Super comfortable.
Can’t wait to try it! I just bought my second pair of the 3 and will have to wait until the Fall to get them. Thanks for the first impression…didn’t know if i should steer clear of the 4….sold me on em for sure!
These are the exact 2 shoe models I’m deciding between; perfect vid, thanks!!!
Happy to help!
Does the foot sit deeper in this model than in the previous one?
No
I'm afraid not.
Great, so wheres the difference? Heard it would be a lot stiffer than the first one is it?
I don't notice any difference in terms of stiffness to be honest 🤷🏻♂️
@@TDMiller great, I love my ER1 and they are still great, propably Ill skip this. Cant wait to hear Escalante 4 and Vanish Carbon 2 or Mont Blanc Speed reviews. Those four are definately my picks from this all year. Are you going for those? 😊
@@veijomarin813 Esky 4 arrived yesterday, which I'm looking forward to. VC2, I've had my first run, but not a good first impression. MB Speed, probably 😅 what's the 4th?
@@TDMiller wow nice!! Great to hear that! I meant ER2, E4, VC2 and MBS. Have to say it took a lot of running to get used to Vanish Tempo and Carbon but now they both feel great and Im a bit excited to VC2. Hopefully its even better than the first one, give it some time 😄
I guess you will get LP 9+, will be new foam and Vibram Megagrip outsole 🔥
