I have a question I hope you can answer. I used to have a business out of my home with my name in it and I also retired a few years ago because we were moving. We have since moved back to the area and I would like to open up a baking business again. I would also like to change the name, should I post that I am opening back up under a new name or just start all over again? I would like to still do cookies but would also like to do other things.
Hey Heather, thank you for watching and your question. You are definitely on the right track; I am proud of you that you are keen to changing your Home Bakery business name. It sounds like you already have a following and it is a great idea to let them know that your business name is changing. You can have fun with the change and see if you can get some engagement by building up some hype, you could even go as far as a giveaway of cookies for those who want to guess the new biz name! I have a question about charging for the baking time. Since you're using either gas or electricity to run the oven, do you figure that in some how or just kinda eat that cost.

I find that mostly bakers are undercharging for their bakes, so it is important to address this first. Your wisdom in this area is so valuable! I can't thank you enough for your videos. My grandmother was an in home baker from the 70s-2000. I watched her all the time when I would stay the night with her. I really probably would have gotten the most out of it from 8-12 bc she then had a brain tumor and wasn't well. I made it a priority to make my kids birthday cakes bc I had always had a homemade cake from grandma. But this past year I just started doing cupcakes and cookies and taking them to work. I got so many compliments that I started bring some a couple times a month to sell but only like $1.50-$2. Then this past 8mths I've just got an intense passion for it and after praying and sitting in the idea, I just went ahead and started a fb business page. Honestly I did that almost 2wks ago after being let go from my job unexpectedly. I had only been there a little over 2mths and was caught off guard. I will still try to find a part-time job until I can really get this business thing going but that 1st step was so exciting. I never ever expected to want to own a business or have something I found that I truly loved doing. I'm 38 and just now realizing this was in my story way before I ever thought about it. God is good! Thank you for your time putting these videos and resources out. Money is so tight right now, as unfortunately I'm American and we have an idiot in charge. These things will help me truly know and understand the ins and outs w/o having to waste my $ on schooling.

My bakery is called "NIRVANA'S DAM COOKIES" im making chocolate chip cookies for now. The name came from everybody saying NIRVANA THESE DAM COOKIES!!! ARE GOOD😂😂😂 But im seeing why its limiting .. and will reconsider

I just found your channel. I feel I may be one of the few men who comment on your channel. I am a widower. I am starting a cheesecake business. I have binged on a number of your vids. One of your vids mentioned not to restrict. I chose cheesecake exclusively because I believe I do that best, of all of the other things I bake. Why not just master what I know and attempt to become the best? I will start out with 8 flavors and go from there. I will be renting out of a commercial kitchen. I took a tour of the kitchen last Friday. As for getting the cheesecake to the customer, I have a couple of options. I can partner with Uber; designate a window of time for customers to come pick-up; ship locally overnight (Using thermal cooking bags and ice gel packets). I've done e-commerce in the past, so I have my designer from a store I had in 2018, building my website. I already have my domain and business email address with the business name after the @. I will also get a phone recording service for customers to call, in which I will get back to them ASAP. That recording will also direct them to the website. I've applied for the LLC and have my food services exam coming up. At the commercial kitchen I will be using, the manager will get the department of agriculture to do my inspection. They also have a vendor for my food insurance. I will start a Facebook page, IG, KZread and Tik-Tok account for marketing, in addition, I will be using street signs to place on corners and medians, with my logo, phone number and website prominently displayed. Currently, I will deliver in my city and surrounding areas and then go statewide, as long as it is a one day transit, which most of my state (Florida) is. I will also market by having tastings in desirable neighborhoods, meaning, neighborhoods in which the residents aren't complaining about the price. My contention is, if you are complaining about my prices, you aren't my target customer! I have sold to people before and word of mouth has gotten me even more business, AND repeat business, so I am pretty confident my baked goods are decent enough to sell to the masses. Also, I will have tastings as well. Rent a location and bring two of each flavor, cut 12 slices each and charge a nominal amount for a limited amount of people who show up to try. There are so many other things I have learned over the years I am anxious to put to work.

Thank you so much! Photography is SO important in a Home Bakery because our photos are our "display case" if you will. Our customers can’t walk into a shop and check out our baked goods in person before ordering. It's our photos' job to draw them in and convince them to buy. For me it took about 5 years of trial and error to figure out what works specifically for a Home Bakery - without needing to buy some kind of fancy setup or an expensive camera.
