@sergio_tellez11 күн бұрын
Hi John. That happens because the layer you're using is a group layer. You cannot paint in a group layer, they are only meant to contain other layers but not paint on them. If you want to paint something in that group, you need to create a new paint layer within that group. Now, that wall of bricks icon is a new funtion of group layers called 'pass through'. This function changes the behavior of the layers within the group, making then behave in the layer stack as if they weren't in a group. Pass through is useful if you have filter layers, fill layers, layers with different blending modes, etc, and you want to apply those effects to the layers outside the group too. I hope that helps. Cheers.

I really liked how you explain things, however I do feel like you got a little fast for me in some areas, and was hard to keep track of when you would draw and click certain things that seemed to take away from what you were explaining. Is it possible for you to do a more step by step process, beginning with layer one, background and then when to add the next layer? Drawing perspective has always been difficult for me and speeding through confuses me.

I created many different layers in the same spot, forgetting to group them, and now they are all mixed up, so I can't easily merge them together. Is there a way to select a specific area and activate only the layers affected in that particular area, so I can then easily merge them?
@sergio_tellez3 ай бұрын
When you click on any point in the canvas while pressing the 'R' key, krita will select the topmost layer that contains paint pixels at that spot. So, you could use that shorut, hide the selected layer and use the shorcut again in the same spot until you have all the layers that have some painting there. But I don't know any way to select all the layers at the same time as you want, sorry.

I was wondering if I can make make the upper layer totally cover up the under layer Ex (Hair over head and ears). Especially when animating. If I don’t color and it’s just black and white, I’d presume it wouldn’t work regardless. But do I have to add color to cover up the under layer so the hair can run over normally, or is there a way to do without?
@sergio_tellez3 ай бұрын
If you only have lines, the only way I know to cover the under layers is by coloring the area inside those lines. What I do when animating, is to have a layer for line art and a underlayer for colours. But only with black and white lines, I don't know. You can ask on krita-artists.org though. Cheers.

Which one is equivalent to Photoshop's smart objects?
@sergio_tellez3 ай бұрын
Hi. I'm not a Photoshop user, and the last time I used it was with CS6, so I don't really know much about it, sorry. After searching on Google, I found that 'smart objects' is a feature that allows you to work non destructively in many ways. From what I see, you can achieve most of what smart objects do in Krita by using masks and group layers. There might be some things that you can't do, but since smart objects can do many tasks, I would need a more specific example. Keep in mind that Krita is a different software focused on digital painting, and it doesn't aim to be a Photoshop copy or alternative. There are quite a few things you can do in Krita that you can't do in Photoshop, and vice versa. Cheers!

Is there any way to adjust the transparency of the mask filter in Krita to reduce the effect on the initial layer?
@sergio_tellez3 ай бұрын
The transparency of filter masks and filter layers in Krita is controlled by a greyscale. So you can paint in the filter layer or mask with different shades of black to control its transparency. Check my last video for more info about it. If you are using alpha inheritance with a paint layer, you can control its tranparency from the slider in the layer docker.
