    For me, it's an art journal. I don't write in them. I just enjoy creating each page. For me each page is a work of art. They reveal or reflect what my feelings are at that moment.

    My mom passed away a little over a week ago, and as soon as I got home, I spent the next 6 days making junk journals for my 2 sisters and myself to capture memories, prayers, gratitudes, and write about my mom. They both loved their journals. I am still adding to mine. 💜

    Your video came across my feed and I was so excited! I have been a creative from about 10 years old and I'm mid 70's now. I have seen and done a lot in the art world. I always come back to paper in the end. I love all the pockets, secret enclosures and the absolute creativity and therapy of junk journals but I can't find a use for them at all. Sadly this video did not solve this issue for me. I've made about half a dozen and while I like them they sit on a shelf. I don't journal and don't know anyone that does. I have never scrapbooked and don't know anyone that does so I am left with making things that are of little use. Sad but true. I will stick to watching junk journal ideas and incorporating them into cards that I sell. Darn, I had high hopes. I enjoyed your video and will binge on your past ones. Thanks so much. Jan

    Thank you for your video, I have to confess I was one of those mystified viewers who had no idea why you would make a junk journal! I understand totally the creative aspect of it as I paint, plus the therapy side, the recycling, and I love a notebook and all the pretty embellishments. The only thing I was still slightly confused about were some of the terms you use - ATCs, Signatures etc. Did you think of these names or is this a general scrapbooking language? You definitely made me want to make a junk journal of my own though x

  • @MargareteMiller
    @MargareteMiller11 сағат бұрын

    I should have taken more time to explain some of these terms. A signature is a set of papers that are folded in half. ATC is artist trade card, which is the size of a regular playing card. It’s a small piece of art that you can trade with other artists.

    Finally....someone has answered my question. My understanding is that a junk journal is a style of journal that has multiple uses (scrapbook, diary, etc.). And the purpose of a junk journal as opposed to other journals, is that one is supposed to enjoy the making process, and make it unique to their liking. Up until now, I thought that a junk journal was just a way to waste one's time and materials in order to create a book that is nothing more than....junk. Thank you for this informative video.

    I have mixed feelings about junk journals. I enjoy looking at the pretty junk journals on Etsy or Pinterest, but I feel uneasy knowing that most of them are not actually made from "junk" that someone had at home. The same goes for scrapghans - you can see it's unlikely that someone would have so much colour-coordinated scrap yarn at home. That is why I love very much your tutorial on making a journal cover out of a box. I hate seeing someone has obviously bought and ruined an antique book or purchased a printer and printable ephemeris.

  • @MargareteMiller
    @MargareteMillerКүн бұрын

    You're right. A lot of materials used for junk journals are bought for the purpose of creating it because people want a specific look. Everyone must decide for themselves. I've done both methods, including bought digital kits so that I could shape the theme.

    This is a wonderful intro to junk journals! I will refer people who ask to your thorough and informative video. Thank you! I love the process of making a junk journal. Each one has its own personality, and some are just works of art in and of themselves that won’t be “used” in any way. I have purchased a few journals over the years just for their artistic (and tutorial) value! I had planned to include Junk Journal July in my current “memory-keeping journal,” but the thrill of creating a new journal specifically for July has changed my mind 😂. Really loved watching you make the small journal from the watercolor box and it turned out beautifully! Who can resist a good box??
