I wanted to experiment with AI generated art to see if would be good for my creativity, and it surprisingly was! So how do you use ai in your art? In my case I used MidJourney to create some images in a vintage style, and then used them in my eclectic page gluebook.
In this video I show you five examples of vintage inspired images I created, and then show you how I collaged with them, using other papers.
Are you interested in seeing if AI art is good for your creativity? You are welcome to download the printable and try for yourself.

The AI issue is very confusing. The way you are using it seems fine, but reproducing famous artwork; people's voices; things that are already famous seems like stealing to me. It's going to be difficult to set up parameters for AI. I'm so glad you addressed it! Thank you!

I think we're all in big trouble with this AI stuff. It's like the genie that needs to be put back in the bottle. Those of us who are older will probably keep on doing what we've always done to create art using genuine o items we find or make.

Margarete: this was quite a video. I’m sitting here thinking, omg. This opens up so many questions, I’m not even ready to ask them yet. I think that AI is so new to everyone in every field of work that it can be a bit overwhelming. Additionally, I feel that more of these types of videos need to be seen and discussed. There is a lot of things involved here. Please continue to talk about this topic and show us how we can use AI for our art. You are on top of things and I thank you for it. Carol from California

Many people on you tube, take a black pen or sometimes a white one and go around the images in the collage to make them stand out more. Also some brush dark color on the edges before they put the piece. in in the collage.

I'm intrigued and creeped out at the same time. But using AI generated images for collage fodder in personal collages works for me. The potential use in deep fake videos, images and not identifying them as such is a high cliff over which we may be falling.

I'm super uncomfortable with AI. From my understanding, it often makes its images from work of other artists without permission, recognition, payment, etc. I really struggle with the ethics of this new tech, at least until the legalities, ethics, etc. get ironed out so our amazing artists don't get ripped off--as many of them are.

  • @MargareteMiller

I totally understand. AI does indeed use images from other artists when generating new images. How are those artists or estates being compensated? I'm looking forward to hearing more discussions on this going forward.

Oh wow, what a new rabbit hole this creates! I love it! I'm curious to know if you were to ask midjourney the exact same parameters again if it would come up with the same set of images or a new set? You know, this is going to create quite a quandary in the artworks 50 or 100 years down the road. Is it vintage, or is it AI, and how will we know for sure? 😮

Thank you for this! I am 65 & haven't explored AI at all yet.😬 It sure sounds like a slippery slope! I'm in the junk journal world and have seen digi kits that have obviously been created with AI, but without the creator admitting that...while some respectable & popular junk journal makers are swooning over the talent of this person. Yes, that bothers me. Yet, I wonder how this is different than using paper pad paper from Michael's in one's collage or junk journal and then sell it as one's art work.🤷🏻 The whole copyright issue is more than overwhelming in & of itself! Like how can art supply companies prohibit us from selling something we created with the use of their stencil or stamp?! 🥴 I'm glad I don't sell anything I make & am not a working artist in today's gray world of art!🙄 Thanks again for the video!!

I did purchase AI generated images digital printables from Etsy seller few months ago and they did stated it was AI generated. I have played around with image AI Bing generator and Nightcafe and have used used images in my junk journals. There are online image filters that turn photos into vintage. You can tell if images are AI generated due distorted faces and hands.

I’m flat out trying to figure how to download from Etsy most of the time 😂😂😂 I just hope creators will still use the old fashioned way of collaging and creating also. Very interesting topic. I'd definately use it. Some what confusing also. My feeling is every pc of art every imagine is created by some one some where at some point in time, is it really any different then the images we use regularly. Is it really any different then using Google? I once made my own and my daughters tshirts to wear on national scrapbook day the first one I made I used cm items I bought, I scanned them into my computer and shrunk them, organized them how I wanted and added saying "will sell hubby for scrapbook supplies" everyone loved it, my consultant said as long as I did not sell shirts for profit it was fine..... which I had no plans too. It's been very long time and things may have changed since but I was once told by an attorney if your using for personal use its fine. He also said changing in item such as a copyrighted photo makes it different and also hard to prove it belong to you. Myself I don't sell so anything I copy or print is for my own or a gift no profit. He also said in the day of internet an image can get 1000 shares in seconds no credit given. I personally always try to give credit if sharing something of someone's or atleast state I have no idea who owns it however because of the sharing it is sometimes hard to prove any copy right violation. I personally look at it like this also, if I post it I have no objection to you stealing/using/ even making a profit, I'd love if you stated I was original creator but if not that's ok too I expect that some one some where may like it and steal it so if I've put on internet it's free rain. Personal pictures I could never take and post to say all my genealogy sites without first messaging you asking you if I may and give credit and thanks. Topic is definitely a big one and I'd love to learn more on how others handle things

Hello , I am very disappointed that you promote at the end AI as you are explaining how to use it. I am completely against the use of AI because you stole artists to create your picture. The artists did not authorize that AI uses their creation, they are not at all compensated. In EU, we are looking to a law to avoid this stolen. It is not acceptable what is happening and you should not promote in anyway by this type of video... Your followers will just take this idea without to take care about the dangerous aspect of this AI. We will lose all creativity at the end.
