Αυτός ο άνθρωπος άλλαξε τη ροή της ιστορίας και μεταμόρφωσε όχι μόνον το ελληνικό μπάσκετ αλλά ολόκληρο τον ελληνικό αθλητισμό ! Μέχρι τότε θεωρούσαμε αυτονόητο να βλέπουμε από τις τηλεοράσεις παθητικά και με ενδόμυχο αίσθημα πικρίας τις μεγάλες αθλητικές διοργανώσεις με μόνιμα απούσες τις ελληνικές συμμετοχές σε εθνικό, συλλογικό και ατομικό επίπεδο πλην ελαχίστων εξαιρέσεων!! Ο Γκάλης έβγαλε τον ελληνικό αθλητισμό-επαγγελματικό πρωταθλητισμό από την μιζέρια και την αφάνεια και είναι ο πατέρας όλων των μετέπειτα επιτυχιών που βιώσαμε κ συνεχίζουμε να βιώνουμε ως σήμερα! Αναμφισβήτητα προυπήρξαν μεγάλοι αθλητές πριν κ μετά από αυτόν σε όλα τα αθλήματα αλλά η επικών διαστάσεων πορεία και απόδοσή του σε συνδυασμό με την συνεισφορά και επιρροή του στην αναγέννηση του ελληνικου αθλητισμού τον καθιστούν μοναδικό και τον κατατάσσουν αναμφίβολα στην κορυφή των ελλήνων αθλητών!

Just freeze the image at 2:35, and you'll realize how intimidating Galis was. Opponents didn't dare to come close to him because they knew he could vanish into thin air, driving to the lane in a split second. Even Saras, who was considered fast and athletic for his time, couldn't keep up with him. Galis' athleticism, technique, and basketball IQ were so far ahead of his time - a true pioneer

Ohh when I only remember how much frustration and fear this guy gave me whenever Yugoslavia played with Greece during championships from 1983 till 1989... ... I think although he is recognized in basketball society he is one of the most underestimated players of all time.

They do, they very very much do. But 1) every time they do he still scores in many ways ( break back backwards or stay longer in air etc) 2) he was super fast change of direction 3) he would protect the ball amazingly. He was very very strong. 4) he did not get tired and ran all game.

More like 30 years before. I think you might be right about their game but with an asterisk. Galis in Europe was a combo player and one of the best passers of his generations but here his scoring overshadowed litterally everything. He had immense scoring records with an incredible efficiency of career +60FG%!! However if he had played his entire career in the NBA in the Celtics who drafted him, then Galis would have been a different player. He most likely would have been a first pass player like CP3 and Galis statline probably would resemble very much CP3 statline. With all the great players the Celtics had Galis in the 80s as a PG would average something like 10 assists for the majority of his career and his scoring career numbers would probably have been less than 20ppg not because he didn't have the talent to score, but because he wouldn't take the same amount of shots like he did in Europe. So the European version of Galis was not a player like CP3. However an NBA version of Galis in the Celtics during the 80s and early 90s, well that player would have been very close to the player that CP3 is. But with a huge difference. Galis would have ended with something like 5 or 6 rings whlie CP3 hasn't won anyone. That is why after all Auerbach stated that not signing Galis back then was the only big mistake of his career. Because he felt after seeing the career Galis had and the level of game he reached, that if his Celtics had his as well in the roster with that great team they already had that won 3 rings, they could have made a dynasty being the major force of the 80s instead of the Lakers.

The only player who can run into 5 opponents as a strategy! It's like Messi trying to run into Chiellini, Bonucci, Barzagli, and Buffon to maximize goals. He is the fairest player in all sports as he gave the other team every opportunity to defend - the other coach and players must have been grateful that he ran into them allowing them to defend 5 vs 1 and wondering how they weren't able to stop him. I've watched a lifetime of Messi, Ronaldo, Nadal, Federer, and Djokovic and when I was young I watched a ton of Magic Johnson, Dr. J, Worthy, Kareem, Bird (gosh, they were incredible). As amazing as these people were, Galis is in a different category and that's clear in seconds to anyone who follows sports.

@@brando7266 Galis was actually American and was one of the best players in college. While it's difficult to know if he would have developed his game in the NBA the same way he did in Greece, there's no doubt he was already at Larry Bird and Magic Johnson levels when he went into college. As Red Auerbach, the famous Celtics coach, said his single biggest in his career was not signing Nick Galis. The reason for that was that he had signed Larry Bird and thought that was enough. It would be essentially the same as the Lakers not bringing in Magic Johnson as they had Kareem. The rest is history. To understand how good Galis was, you have to look at Giannis Antetonkoumpo who's MVP but can't replicate what Galis did for the national team because Galis had infinite shooting opportunities as opposed to 2-3 that most NBA legends do. Clearly Giannis assumed he could do the same and wants to prove that against these so-called farmers only to find out that he isn't as good as Galis and has a very different game - Giannis needs a team just like almost every other player does. No offense intended to Giannis who's a phenomenal NBA player and with a good team can be devastating. The reason I replied was to show you how a normal player like you would argue (assume you're a professional player) and then Galis would step and score 30 points on you while you're wondering if you've ever played basketball. National coaches said there was nothing they could do to stop him and that applies to today's game too. It's tough to stop the US national team but it was impossible to stop Galis.

Ωραίο βίντεο και μουσική επιλογή! Όσο για τον Γκάλη, δεν ξέρω αν υπάρχει άλλος αθλητής στον πλανήτη που άλλαξε την ιστορία της χώρας του, κατορθώνοντας τα απίστευτα και ανεπανάληπτα επιτεύγματα αυτού του αθλητή. Διότι το μεγαλείο του δεν περιορίστηκε μέσα στο γήπεδο. Γαλούχησε γενιές για πάνω από 4 δεκαετίες κάνοντας μια χώρα ολόκληρη να ασχοληθεί με τον αθλητισμό. Η λίστα είναι ατελείωτη. Αθλητικά δεν αμφισβητούσε μόνο το νόμο της βαρύτητας αλλά και της λογικής της ίδιας. Τον θεωρώ τον καλύτερο αθλητή στον κόσμο και σίγουρα έναν από τους πιο σημαντικούς Έλληνες στην νεότερη ιστορία της Ελλάδος.

Galis was flying whereas the rest of them were walking and running. That is the only way after all a guy who is 1,83 (!!!!) can dominate the game like that. That is all you need to know about him and his game. Nobody did what Galis did with that height disadvantage. NOBODY. By far he had the most fascinating and spectacular game in Europe that time. By far.

Galis in Europe was a combo player and one of the best passers of his generations but here his scoring overshadowed litterally everything. He had immense scoring records with an incredible efficiency of career +60FG%!! However if he had played his entire career in the NBA in the Celtics who drafted him, then Galis would have been a different player. He most likely would have been a first pass player like CP3 and Galis statline probably would resemble very much CP3 statline. With all the great players the Celtics had Galis in the 80s as a PG would average something like 10 assists for the majority of his career and his scoring career numbers would probably have been less than 20ppg not because he didn't have the talent to score, but because he wouldn't take the same amount of shots like he did in Europe. So the European version of Galis was not a player like CP3. However an NBA version of Galis in the Celtics during the 80s and early 90s, well that player would have been very close to the player that CP3 is. But with a huge difference. Galis would have ended with something like 5 or 6 rings whlie CP3 hasn't won anyone. That is why after all Auerbach stated that not signing Galis back then was the only big mistake of his career. Because he felt after seeing the career Galis had and the level of game he reached, that if his Celtics had his as well in the roster with that great team they already had that won 3 rings, they could have made a dynasty being the major force of the 80s instead of the Lakers.

The only player who can run into 5 opponents as a strategy! It's like Messi trying to run into Chiellini, Bonucci, Barzagli, and Buffon to maximize goals. He is the fairest player in all sports as he gave the other team every opportunity to defend - the other coach and players must have been grateful that he ran into them allowing them to defend 5 vs 1 and wondering how they weren't able to stop him. I've watched a lifetime of Messi, Ronaldo, Nadal, Federer, and Djokovic and when I was young I watched a ton of Magic Johnson, Dr. J, Worthy, Kareem, Bird (gosh, they were incredible). As amazing as these people were, Galis is in a different category and that's clear in seconds to anyone who follows sports.

While it's difficult to know if he would have developed his game in the NBA the same way he did in Greece, there's no doubt he was already at Larry Bird and Magic Johnson levels when he went into college. As Red Auerbach, the famous Celtics coach, said his single biggest in his career was not signing Nick Galis. The reason for that was that he had signed Larry Bird and thought that was enough. It would be essentially the same as the Lakers not bringing in Magic Johnson as they had Kareem. The rest is history. To understand how good Galis was, you have to look at Giannis Antetonkoumpo who's MVP but can't replicate what Galis did for the national team because Galis had infinite shooting opportunities as opposed to 2-3 that most NBA legends do. Clearly Giannis assumed he could do the same and wants to prove that against these so-called farmers only to find out that he isn't as good as Galis and has a very different game - Giannis needs a team just like almost every other player does. No offense intended to Giannis who's a phenomenal NBA player and with a good team can be devastating. The reason I replied was to show you how a normal player like you would argue (assume you're a professional player) and then Galis would step and score 30 points on you while you're wondering if you've ever played basketball. National coaches said there was nothing they could do to stop him and that applies to today's game too. It's tough to stop the US national team but it was impossible to stop Galis.

Όσο για τον Γκάλη, δεν ξέρω αν υπάρχει άλλος αθλητής στον πλανήτη που άλλαξε την ιστορία της χώρας του, κατορθώνοντας τα απίστευτα και ανεπανάληπτα επιτεύγματα αυτού του αθλητή. Διότι το μεγαλείο του δεν περιορίστηκε μέσα στο γήπεδο. Γαλούχησε γενιές για πάνω από 4 δεκαετίες κάνοντας μια χώρα ολόκληρη να ασχοληθεί με τον αθλητισμό. Η λίστα είναι ατελείωτη. Αθλητικά δεν αμφισβητούσε μόνο το νόμο της βαρύτητας αλλά και της λογικής της ίδιας. That is all you need to know about him and his game. Nobody did what Galis did with that height disadvantage. NOBODY. By far he had the most fascinating and spectacular game in Europe that time.
