    What did you do to let the plasti dip look cleared after water sand it?

    Hello do you have any idea if the clear cracks over time?thanks in advance

    I do not have any information for performance over time as I felt this path is not worth the drawbacks. I highly recommend to NOT do a clear coat over plastidip. It becomes extremely hard to remove and it also can penetrate the plastidip and bond to the surface underneath unless a LOT of coats of plasti dip are used. Even with a lot of coats removal is still very difficult as it will only come off in small pieces and the clear coat will flake and go everywhere.

  • @SeanVanMeter

    If you do this make sure it's very thick. I did another video in which the plastidip was on a metal base and one area had around 8 layers of dip and I couldn't get all the dip off as I think the clear coat made it to the surface. Another area had 11 coats I believe and that also had problems coming off. Overall I don't recommend doing this.

    Why? Why not just use real apint if your'e putting a clearcoat on it? A non-UV stable clearcoat like this will get ruined anyway...

    I have a question for you... and with your experience maybe you can help me... Ok, I am wrapping my car but I'm not using the plastidip brand. I work at an auto parts store and we carry dupli color car wraps in gallons, but just in graphite, black carbon, and white.. I also went to an art supply store and bought 84 oz. Of Prussian blue powder pigment, 1.5 is of reflex violet (powder) and 1 oz. Of interference blue.. the last two might not be enough.. I have not started it so I can get more if i need too.. Ok, of course, I'm doing 5 coats for my base and here is my question... should I mix in everything I. Another two gallons of black or graphite... I don't want it to come out to light.. I'm going for a dark blue color... it should I mix all the colors in a gallon of low gloss glamour clear and shoot it over the black base coat... your input would help .. thanks... Anyone, pitch in with your opinions.. thanks

    Any risk on running these? By that, I mean like melting the factory wiring?

  • @SeanVanMeter
    @SeanVanMeter7 жыл бұрын

    No risk that I know of. The only thing you should be aware of is that if you use their in line load resistor, then you should not have any other load resistors on the Turn Signal circuit. Also if you've done the turn signal relay mod (involves opening up the turn signal relay, removing the shunt resistor and installing new resistors) to prevent hyper flash instead of doing load resistors, you don't want that mod and load resistors combined as that can fry the turn signal relay.

    HI Man I have a really hard time to find something circular to mask off the tires since I dont have the equipment to actually take them off the car...and Suggestions? I really needs a 18.5inch wheel cover and 19.5 inch wheel cover. I also already have my wheels dipped in black and I want to add metalizer as a wheel lip decal

  • @SeanVanMeter
    @SeanVanMeter8 жыл бұрын

    +K Li I need a little more detail on what you are doing. I'm assuming you are dipping the rims and want to mask the tires (rubber) so it doesn't get dip on it? Correct? Make sure you put plastic trash bag in side the wheel to cover up the brakes/rotors completely. Also make sure the bag does not touch the back of the spokes otherwise the dip will make the bag stick to them.

  • @kaiwenli3432
    @kaiwenli34328 жыл бұрын

    Sean Van Meter Oh no..sorry I was not very clear. I already have my wheels dipped in black but I dont have the tools that you have to make the lip decal. I want to use the violet metalizer to dip the lip, but I dont have the glass cover you have to cover up the center part of the wheel. I cannot use tape because tape will simply drag the original black based dip along with it

  • @kaiwenli3432
    @kaiwenli34328 жыл бұрын

    Sean Van Meter so my main concern is where could I get a glass cover or cloth cover like yours..I do not have the sufficient tools to to make them

  • @SeanVanMeter
    @SeanVanMeter8 жыл бұрын

    +K Li As long as the black dip is properly applied (5 coats or so), then blue painters tape will not tear the dip and it is easy enough to curve to create the inside edge of the lip (versus when I used electric/vinyl tape to create the outside edge of the black). Before I made the Plexiglas shield I I would use some blue painters tape and some plastic to cover the parts of the wheel that I didn't want sprayed. If you have Dip TopCoat over the black then don't put plastic like tape and drape over it (put a layer of paper first). If the black plastidip was not properly applied and it to thin (or not cured long enough) then it is possible blue painters tape could still tear it.

    +Sean Van Meter If you are looking for that type of cover, you may see if a hardware store could cut you a piece for the diameter you need if you want to go that route. Another option is to use stiff cardboard and cut the diameter by hand.

    did you need resistors?

  • @SeanVanMeter

    +Jesse Koontong For the initial revision of the Tritions I did need a load resistor on 1 side as it didn't transition between white and amber correctly. I had already done the LED blinker mod to prevent hyper blinking so didn't need a load resistor for that. I now have the current revision of the V3 Triton switchbacks and they have improved the design so I didn't need a load resistor at all.

    I'm about to get these for my 2008 Mustang GT, along with some LED headlights/foglights (not from VLED) and some halo lights. I wonder how bright these will be in person, as I'm thinking that I'm not going to use that dimming wire. I live in Florida anyways, people have crazy bright lights on their cars here. I wonder if these LED's will be brighter than my new LED fogs/head lights. That would be pretty funny. So how are these Tritions working for you so far? Any problems with them at all?

  • @SeanVanMeter
    @SeanVanMeter9 жыл бұрын

    Michelangelo Hamato I doubt they are brighter than that. What you could get is significantly more glare from them depending if you have a diffuser or if your turn signals are cleared (amber diffuser removed). The glare is why I used the reduced output. It's easy to do if you decide to use it.

    Which switchback light illuminates with the DRL's on (with parking lights off), white or amber? Im guessing the same white as those illuminated with the parking lights or are turn signal lights off altogether? It would love to have the amber illuminated dim with the DRL's on during normal driving without parking lams on.

  • @SeanVanMeter
    @SeanVanMeter9 жыл бұрын

    I'm guessing this could vary with your car but here's my experience. If parking lights are off then nothing will illuminate on the switchbacks. The Amber will illuminate when using turn signal only. The white will illuminate when at least the parking lights are on. The dimmer wire, if you use it connects to the power lead for the high beam.

    Sean Van Meter Sean, thanks for the response! I have a 07 TL-S. Love the VLED's just weighing my options for front turns in amber/white switchbacks or normal ambers. I like the look of the amber DRL's in other cars but havent had luck finding the 9005's in amber LED's for low voltage application like the DRL's. Also, is there a particular reason you got the amber for the tails instead of the reds?

  • @SeanVanMeter
    @SeanVanMeter9 жыл бұрын

    Adam Crowley No problem! Are you on Acurazine? I'm on there but not very active anymore. My username is Buda. The reason for Amber lights on the rear is that "eventually" I plan to open up the tails and replace the red turn signal diffusers with the clear diffusers from the stock '06 Tails and wanted to run amber there instead of the stock red light.

  • @adamcrowley990
    @adamcrowley9909 жыл бұрын

    Sean Van Meter Yes, i am, username abcrowle, not very active either. Use it a lot for simple mod items like this. I read through all 12 pages of the VLED turn signal mod where i came across your video. Very helpful and i will definitely reference for my install. Choosing between switchbacks and regular amber is my dilemma currently. Im not sure im sold on the white/amber switchbacks, I like the amber color on the corner of the turn signal lens. I know if i go white/amber switches i will have to remove the amber diffuser inside the corner of the light. Prefer to keep it basic and just switch out the bulbs for LED lights for a stock look.

  • @SeanVanMeter

    When done spraying turn the can upside down and at a slight angle so the spray from the tip goes upward at an angle. Press and spray until what is coming out is just the clear propellant instead of the dip. This will help clean it out. Then wipe off the nozzle tip. You may have to adjust the angle of the can as it sprays to get the right position.

    i know this was over a year ago. but have you considered using sandable filler primer after the plastidip coatings have been sprayed which is made to fill in small pits as the ones shown on your video . basically you do the same pattern( plastidip coats then primer /sand ,primer/sand, primer/sand working your way up using really fine grit until the item is a smooth as you desire then paint/ wetsand,paint/wetsand,paint/wetsand then 3 coats of gloss.after reading up on forums and watching a lot of different videos this is what I'm going to do on my f250 emblems yes it will be harder to get the dip off with the paint but it gives you the option to paint to match with a smooth finish and its removable.

    @Randy, for some reason I can't reply directly to your comment since it is linked. The easiest way to find a Dealer is to go to the dipyourcar.com website and click on the DYC Installers link in the upper right. To help here is the link directly to the New Jersey listing of installers (4 of them currently): www.dipyourcar.com/new-jersey.html The installers can custom tint the dip to get a closer match to the color you need as well if the current available colors aren't a good match but that obviously will cost more as they may have to tint a gallon of dip versus using spray cans.

    Any luck? You need to let the dip cure before using a clear coat as the thinners in the dip will interfere with the clear coat. Also I don't recommend putting a clear coat on plasti dip on any surface that you don't want to run the chance of the clear coat penetrating the dip and bonding to the surface below. This did happen to one person that knew the risk and they did it on the metal lip of their wheels. They did end up being able to remove it though by using goo gone and that dissolved the dip under the clear coat and they were able to remove it all.

  • @64Magick

I was ready to throw in the towel and peel off my roof. I saw a small clip on KZread that someone was spraying an "ENAMEL GLOSS" on plasti dip and so I ran with it and bought the RUST-OLEUM ENAMEL GLOSS. Please take a look at my other video with putting the Enamel over dip with a metal base. The Enamel did't fuse to the vinyl underneath the dip however it did fuse to the metal under the dip in my other video. Even 9 coats of dip was a little hard in coming off. Please be aware of this when putting enamel on any dip as it can penetrate to the surface below.
