Peel test of Plastidip coated with Krylon Fusion for Plastics (Clear)

Please be aware that when using an enamel to clear coat plastidip you run the risk of the enamel penetrating the dip and bonding to the surface below.
Testing out the use of Krylon Fusion for Plastics on Plastidip. The Krylon Fusion also deepens the color and gives it more shine than using plastidip gloss (as does auto enamael). Will it penetrate the 5 coats of Plastidip and will it still peel off?

Btw - I made a DIY tripod mount for my cell phone so no shaky video.

I definitely agree and have given this advice any time I have been asked. This was to see if it could be done given proper application/coverage. This is definitely for very special use and I'd only recommend it if you have no problems using paint stripper to remove it (i.e. don't care if it penetrates to surface below the dip).

I am going to add Krylon Fusion for Plastics on top of Rustoleum Peel Off gloss black and see what kind of shine I get with that combo.

I never post on youtube, but for once I signed in this time. Excellent videos and reviews, I've kept up with them all and they have definitely made a difference in what I use for my car. So in all, for future peeling, would you suggest the Krylon>Auto Enamel? Thanks for the videos again

Why? Why not just use real apint if your'e putting a clearcoat on it? A non-UV stable clearcoat like this will get ruined anyway...

Thanks for your comment and I would definitely agree that this is not a mainstream option. If I do this to a set of my rims (2 piece), then I'll be stripping off the existing finish first as I was thinking about repainting anyways. These videos are more of a "can it be done" test. Not having a proper application of plastidip could lead to the Krylon bonding to the surface below.

It would be more permanent. However, I do not recommend doing this to a car body as there is not a 100% guarantee that the clear coat would not penetrate the Plasti dip in some areas and bond to the surface underneath. If your entire car was sanded/primed and you had the choice of a new paint job or doing plastidip with a clear coat then that is a valid scenario in which it could be used as your choices for removal are increased and you aren't worried about bonding to an existing clear coat.

Thanks for the video. Plastidip by itself was really messy as far as white goes (prone to stains) I'll be redoing it in white and krylon fusion over it. On the entire motorcycle I used 6 cans of plastidip, should I use the same amount in krylon? Btw I'm also going to follow your videos and wetsand it if it doesn't look too good. Once again thanks for the video I appreciate it

Please take a look at my other video with putting the Enamel over dip with a metal base. The Enamel did't fuse to the vinyl underneath the dip however it did fuse to the metal under the dip in my other video. Even 9 coats of dip was a little hard in coming off. Please be aware of this when putting enamel on any dip as it can penetrate to the surface below.

So far in my experience between the two I prefer the Krylon as it is easier to work with. I'll be putting up another video later once I finish up the wet sanding video covering the auto enamel that where I'll peel off the plastidip from my test piece that has both types of enamel on it so that should be a good one to look for.

If I plasti dip my whole car and put either krylon or rustoleum on top of it, will it make it more permanent?

How well would this remove on some 2005 Ram 20in. Stock rims? Basically, would this be effective on polished aluminum rims?

my opinion is that this is a bust, I surly wouldnt want to put in all that work to get it of a set of rims. its nice to see more tests from a different point of view, but it would be clearly misleading to add this to an option with platidip projects.
