This was a pretty good review, albeit more energy was spent discussing the bad games as opposed to the others. You touched on some of the nuance that's ignored a lot. The Bucs pass defense made all the difference and it had absolutely nothing to do with turnovers. They were just horrible adjusting to Bowles new scheme. Did Jameis play perfect? Not at all (lol) but anybody that believes that the Bucs missed the playoffs because of him either didn't watch any games that season or don't know football. Most of his turnovers came in 4 games. When you actually look at the other 12... *63% completion, 3867 yards, 28TD/14INT, 99.4 passer rating with a 7-5 record. When you actually break down those 5 losses, we will see losses to: *The Giants, where you go up big but your defense lets them comeback. Jameis takes the team down field just for Gay to miss a last second chip shot *The Saints, where your secondary allowed Teddy Bridgewater to have a career day and earn a $60 million contract *The Titans, where Bruce Arians blasted your receivers because he said they made the wrong read on both interceptions thrown *The Seahawks, where your secondary allowed Russell Wilson to have the best game of his career and yall lose in OT without a possession *The Falcons, where more time is spent talking about the Pick-6 in OT than the fact that Matt Gay missing every FG attempt was the reason you were in OT in the first place. At minimum, with a decent pass defense and special teams, the Bucs would have been a 10 win team. But we know that more energy was spent in an offseason/season to make sure Brady was successful than the 5 years with Winston, going as far as to modify the offense mid season for Brady because the Bucs couldn't beat any good teams. It's crazy how much nuance there is to those seasons. Great video!

They brought in DeSean Jackson as a fast deep threat and for some reason Jackson had better chemistry with Fitzpatrick than he did with Winston, Why??? @jahsoul357 Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Vincent Jackson, Desean Jackson. I just named you 4 WRs that Winston had when he was in Tampa. Not only that but that defense was exactly the same one (minus Antoine Winfield ) that shut down Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl. The only constant was Winston and had he been the starter in 2020 Tampa never would have won a Super Bowl much less made the playoffs.

  • @jahsoul357

@@TB-wn9xk You think a team just need receivers? Pass offense was the not Bucs issue. The fact that the O-line was horrible was an issue. The fact that the Bucs defense was consistently bad was an issue. The fact that the Bucs didn't get a kicker that made 83% of his FG attempts until 2020 was an issue. Also, the Bucs defense, specifically pass defense, was horrible in 2019. That's part of the reason they got Winfield. Also, if you think Jameis is the reason the Bucs didn't make the playoffs in 2019, please explain the Giants, Saints, and Seahawks game? Also, for the cherry on top, tell me how many FGs Matt Gay made in a game that went to OT. Sounds like you are a part of the population that don't really know what was happening on the field.

@@jahsoul357 I remember watching Winston throw 30 ints in a single season. Of course that defense was bottom of the league in pass defense. That's what happens when your QB constantly gives the ball to the other team when you're still on your own side of the field and you barely give them a chance to sit on the bench from the last time you threw an int. That O-line in 2019 was still ranked in the top 10 by the time that season was over. As far as the kicker goes sure you can blame him for not making his kicks but then again why are we relying on a kicker to win the game in the first place when the QB's main priority is to score TD's? I guess those 5 extra fumbles that he lost really made things harder on the kicking game. By the way Shannon is right because before Tom Brady showed up Ryan Fitzpatrick was the one the team rallied around and felt like they actually had a chance to win back in 2018. When a QB that's been on 6 different teams before this one plays better than you that should have been a sign for Tampa to not give Winston his 5th year option. I will go to my grave believing that Tampa would have been better off trading away the #1 pick in 2015. I might even put that on my tombstone when I kick the bucket.

@@TB-wn9xk Here is where the narrative always dies and how a bias is exposed. *The worst games the 2019 Bucs secondary had, in terms of both stats and metrics, were the games against the Seahawks, 1st Saints game, and Giants game. Tell me about those turnovers in those games. If you really watchted that game like you say you did, you would know that more than 1/2 of the interceptions came in 4 games. So your notion of using that to excuse why the defense was so bad doesn't fly when you actually LOOK AT THE GAMES. *Ryan Succop attempted more FGs in 2020 than Matt Gay did in 2019. And you are talking about the QBs main priority is to score TDs when Brady didn't get a surge until Bruce Arians modified the offense for him during the bye week after spending the season up until then losing to good teams. You must have missed that. *You bringing up Ryan Fitzpatrick is what exposed your bias. In 2018, Ryan Fitzpatrick threw interceptions at a higher rate (4.9) than Jameis did in 2019 (4.8). Your worst losses of the 2018 season came with Fitzpatrick at QB. I'm not saying that Winston was perfect by any means but when he came back, he played more efficiently that Fitzpatrick could ever dream of. Maybe you should have actually looked at the games. You just exposed that your bias actually clouds legitimate football evaluation.

Saying that "he was just throw the ball and see where it lands quarterback" is one of those, "I don't look at tape like that and use my 'eye test." Jamies was drafted to a team that has never developed a quarterback in the history of the franchise. At some point we have to look at the organization for being able to develop a quarterback. Now a lot people give Baker Mayfield a pass by blaming Cleveland for him not making it in Cleveland. And not to mention he was given a chance to fail for 4 different franchises. And I hope he plays good and become our franchise quarterback. But he was very inconsistent last year and yet some of yall really think he was balling.

Like I said, the 2023 Bucs lost more game due to bad offense than the 2019 Bucs, even with Jameis throwing 20 more interceptions. Looking back, that team should have 100% at least made the playoffs. The defense was essentially the same minus Winfield. And we still had incredible talent on offense, although our o line wasn’t as good.

Maybe, remember the defense didn't really turn the corner until after halfway through the season. Regardless of Winston we still wouldn't have made the playoffs

Not without Succop and Wirfs plus Evans missed the last 4 games and Godwin missed the last 2. Field goal kicking cost the Bucs 3 games by itself.

Well they had the Bucs at 5 wins last year so the Bucs are winning 11?

The Bucs do have a hard schedule so I can see why certain algos would not be favorable, but the dedication of players at One Buc this offseason is awesome.
