This video really incorporated a lot of the beauty of the area in Duluth. That rainbow was really the cherry on top.
When I worked for an international chemical company, I did service work on the dish machine in a 1000 footer when it wintered in Sturgeon Bay , WI and was given a tour of it. WOW, that ship is huge from the deck level

Hi, Mike! Thought I'd say Hi from Grandma's down at the lift bridge. Went up to Split Rock Lighthouse and having supper at Grandma's. Loving time in Duluth!
You were so lucky to be in Duluth with a perfect day from what I heard. I saw the cam looking good at 80° out in Duluth. I’m down in the Twin Cities until Saturday. I wish I was up there right now. Don’t forget the ship Alpena will be arriving in superior tomorrow. That’s an old-school ship. If I was in Duluth, I 100% would come say hi.

I wanted to make sure that you saw that video. I’ve seen a lot of videos, but intentionally went out to record this because I haven’t seen any footage like that before. I wanted to show you the dock as it sits today. Really is humbling to be right by it

hey mike and boat friends i woke up with a dumb idea but you all are a fun bunch and i thought some would participate.....lets say they are making an animated movie like cars but with ships...whos voice would you pick for what famous ships.....you can use celebs who passed if you want....example id pick albert hitchcocks voice for titanic or was it alfred lmao......then id have gilbert godfried voice a really annoying tugboat or something haha

I think James Earl Jones would be a good voice for the James R. Barker! Powerful voice for a powerful horn.

Grew up there. left in "73" when I joined the military, and been back 3 times, but not since 1983
There’s a lot that remains the same since you left back in 73 and there are many new things as well in Duluth. It’s a really interesting contrast in combination. The ships are still here. Thank you for your service! It means a lot to me and many others. It’s people like you that served our country that allows me to make videos like this, and others to do what they want too. How deep is that canal???
How deep / wide / long ship canal: The canals length is 0.33 miles (0.53 k). The canal is maintained at 245 feet (75 m) wide. Depth: 28 to 33 feet in the entrance; 27 feet deep in the iron-ore route channels, and 20 to 23 feet in the inner channels. Here’s a little more information about dredging the canal. In 1978 I got stationed at the 21st NORAD center in Syracuse NY. About every 6 to 10 weeks I would go TDY to the Duluth NORAD center for three or four days to do some maintenance on their pneumatic control systems. I did get to go to Burns harbor and got to see some big ships coming and going during the summer months. Took a lot of great pictures of the ships and the lift bridge. I liked the Duluth TDY trips.

That water is like a mirror almost. I think Lake Erie here is usually more choppy. Must be a ship with a pot of gold
