    Hi, I hope that development is going smoothly with the AMPmini. Also, if I already have an AD/DA converter where its analog input does not have gain controls for mic usage, what would be your recommendation as a pure mic preamp for gain control in stationary use among your devices, if any? And given that your recording devices are largely battery-powered and for portable use, are there potential issues in having them plugged for extended periods of time, such as battery degradation?

  • @centrance

    The lowest noise preamp we have is Jasmine. That's pristine studio quality, but you'd need two of them. A cheaper option is to get the 2-channel MixerFace and yes, you can leave it plugged in.

  • @centrance
    @centrance2 ай бұрын

    No, Class B provides distortion at the cross-over point, while Class A is linear throughout. We maintain Class A, but lower the power voltage if the headphones don't require it. This keeps distortion super low at all times AND saves energy if it's not needed.

    My 1990’s Trace Elliott bass guitar amplifier has the same tube/transistor sweep on the input pre-amp - so the idea isn’t new - but it is a great concept. I’m usually about 75% over to the tube side - somehow it seems a little more ‘natural’ and not so clinical.

    This is very left field here, but are there like “hackers” “private investigators” “field personal security agents” “human intelligence agents” that can modify these into some sort of ‘kit’? For example the clear dish may not be optimal in some environments. Is there way to change the color or even simply not have the dish? What about the dish material constitutes better reception?

  • @centrance
    @centrance4 ай бұрын

    From what we understand, material is important as paint can affect the reflective properties of the surface. The shape is also very important as it acts to focus the audio waves at the microphone.

    Ive heard that generally, for recording audio of nature, you need a mic with a high signal to noise ratio because nature sounds tend to be a bit quiet much of the time. Though supposedly, a parabolic dish improves the signal to noise ratio of any mic. So in that case, could I get away with using a cheaper mic with a lower signal to noise ratio?

  • @centrance
    @centrance5 ай бұрын

    Yes, you can have a cheaper mic inside of the parabolic dish, but a better mic always helps, especially if you have spent good coin on the parabolic dish itself.

  • @anzaeria
    @anzaeria5 ай бұрын

    I would likely be going the DIY route with a parabolic dish - adapting something like a salad bowl or a curved rubbish bin lid. It may not be quite as good as a commercially made para dish that specifically designed for audio but hopefully, it might still give reasonable results.@@centrance

    They say this audio interface easily... I expect it to last at least 10 years.

  • @centrance
    @centrance6 ай бұрын

    @centrance • 0 seconds ago Our products typically last longer than that. We would love to be able to introduce a new model every year, like Apple, but it doesn't work that way in our niche industry.

  • @91darko
    @91darko5 ай бұрын

     @centrance Redesigning it to have an AA battery would be much better as you can replace it and switch batteries when they get discharged. Adding a battery door on the side where you can open it and pop in the battery would be perfect. Also, will the interface be powered by an external battery? And if the internal battery gets removed one day, will the interface still work and be powered by a laptop/desktop or external battery (power bank) without the internal battery through USB-C (charge)?

  • @centrance
    @centrance4 ай бұрын

    Consider the impact on the environment when you keep throwing away used AA batteries. Also, consider the long term impact on your wallet when you keep buying new ones. A rechargeable battery; like you have in your smart phone, is a much better alternative long term. It costs less and it pollutes less. Our rechargeable batteries last a very long time. We use quality tech. We have product in the field that's 8 years old and more. Those customers have definitely saved a lot of money by not needing to buy AA batteries. And lastly, for traveling users it's important that the overall size of the product is much smaller because the rechargeable battery is much thinner than AA. That's our reasoning. But we are aware that other solutions exist which let you use AA batteries.

  • @91darko
    @91darko4 ай бұрын

    @@centrance @centrance I understand, and I love the product. But you have rechargeable AA batteries that are usable many times over. I was not thinking of one-time-use batteries. Maybe a different battery style like the older phones or fair phones (hot-swappable but rechargeable). The problem is that I've been teaching online for more than six years, and I'm teaching every day. So imagine recharging that battery every day. It will bloat within two years (talking from experience). Since I wouldn't be able to send the unit for repair back to you (because it's impractical and expensive), I will have to find a new battery from China, order it, wait 2-3 months, and solder the new battery in. I'm just trying to help you understand. I'm also interested if the battery is completely removed from the Centrance Micport Pro 3 (unsoldered from the unit). Could I power it from an external power bank or other power source like a USB charger while the battery is missing inside?

  • @centrance
    @centrance4 ай бұрын

    Happy to move this discussion into email. Sounds like you have specific questions that are faster discussed there. You can reach us via the website. But to answer your question, we have multiple customers using our products every day and charging them every day. No issues for the internal battery that we heard of for at least 8 years so far. We use very good battery technology out of Japan, so it works well. Think of your cell phone - you can charge it every day and it works just fine. Lithium Polymer battery technology (which we use) doesn't have a problem with daily charging. And yes, you can keep the device plugged in to a source of usb power indefinitely, just like your cell phone. And yes, it will continue to work this way if the battery is removed.
